Reviews
a lot of golf for little money
I was a little skeptical about playing here because of some of the reviews. Was pleasantly surprised and played it 3 times during our week in the area.
Very fun layout with some challenging holes that make you think about your game. Front nine is pretty open and not hard, but then you make the turn and its like you are on a different course, with tiny but good greens and rolling fairways.
Only bad thing is the length of the grass, fairways not bad but tee boxes need to be cut shorter.
Had a couple encounters with the grounds crew and they were friendly and seemed concerned about the quality of the course.
Would recommend if you are in the area.
Not the Mesceola Country Club I Remember
I played this course several years ago when it was the Mesceola Country Club and while I can't say I remember the specific conditions of the course at that time, I will say they couldn't have been as poor as they are now or I would have remembered and wouldn't have chosen to play here.
On a bright note, the greens are in decent condition and roll fairly true. That is where the brightness ends. I was playing from the blue tees and actually had to forgo those tee boxes for the whites because the blue area was overtaken with weeds and hadn't been cared for in what seemed like weeks. Even the white tee boxes were sparse of grass and weeds were abundant.
Fairways?? Hmmmmm. Not really sure there was such a thing. Grass again was sparse throughout the course. Many times while in the middle of the "fairway" I needed to find a patch of grass to place my ball on. The fairways were simply rough mowed a little bit shorter.
The clubhouse is beyond outdated and a trip to the bathroom shows all of its age and lack of infrastructure investment.
If you're looking for a course to learn to play or take young kids out to just have fun this might be a good choice but I wouldn't pay more than $15 to play this course. Management/ownership needs to invest some serious money and time into this course.
Awesome
Great course great layout easy to navigate and the other golfers were informative
Good experience for the price
The course was a little improved since the last time I played it (about 3-4 yrs. ago).
It's a rough ride with lacking/poor cart paths and really bumpy fairways & roughs.
But hopefully the new regime will continue to make improvements.
Pricewise: it was a good deal.
Great course for the money
Very nice and friendly staff. Really nice course and the Greens were excellent.
I hope to go back there again this fall when the colors are on the trees.
first timer
Great value!! Paid 16.50 for 18 w/ cart for a golf now hot buy.. I am always looking for the best combinations of cost and quality, and at that price, you can't go wrong. I would value rate this course as $30-$35 per 18
Pleasant Surprise
Course is in good shape and was not very busy. Variety of interesting holes makes for challenging and interesting play. Greens a bit small on average, but in great shape. Overall great value for your dollar and would play again.
Good course
The coures just keep getting better all the time. Food need to get better ant the price of the food for what you get need to be lower.
Challenging course
Very challenging course with many hidden greens and very sloped fairways. The grass in both the fairways and rough was high enough to hide golf balls in what should be plain sight.
Great course for starters.
I've played this course many times with my sons who are just beginning to golf. Great course for them to learn on. Not to busy so you are never rushed. Course is in good condition.
Wonderful greens and views. Great service.
The course is under great care and will only continue to improve with the new family ownership. The greens are immaculate, best in area. Service inside is awesome, and they don't overcharge for food and drinks like other area courses do.
Pretty good value, front and back play different
This is the old Maceola Golf course, I never played it but if you have, maybe it helps you recall the course. The club house is a little rough, nice enough, needs some work to finish the place off. The desk man was really nice, he made me feel very welcome. There were tee boxes that suited myself and the ladies in our group, they played the silver tees instead of the red. The tee boxes could have been mowed a little better, the girls sometimes felt like they weren't tee boxes but they were. The front nine was more open, the back tighten up quite a bit. a couple holes required placement shots which makes it more challenging. For the money we paid on Golfnow.com, I enjoyed it. The pace was a little slow because of the 4-some in front of us but not too bad. Some up-north courses charge an arm and a leg to play, this course lets you hit the ball around and not need to put a 2nd mortgage on the house. I will be playing this again when we visit our friends in Canadian Lakes.
Find somewhere else to play!
This is a very old course that is not well maintained. It's pretty much a cow pasture that's seen better days. The website for the course is extremely misleading and not representative of what you'll find. I would never play here again.
Improvements are great!
The improvements to this course are great! I had played this course in the past and it was in need of an update. It was well worth giving this course a try this year. The new ownership is also reflected in the great attitude of the staff. The views on the course are super.
Clear lake Golf Club
My favorite golf course in the Big rapids area. Much is made of some of the resort courses in the area but Clear Lake has the best greens in Mecosta County.
