READ THE FINE PRINT...
I have booked with GolfNow well over 50 times over the past years and the advertised fees have ALWAYS included a cart. Upon checking-in we were informed by someone claiming to be the “course owner”, that a cart is not included and we should have noticed the advertised fee is for walking only. Of any venue I have ever played, this course is NOT for walking. The starting and ending holes for both nines are literally 2 or 3 blocks from the clubhouse with unusually long distances between holes! In my opinion the advertised fee is deceptive and should be raised if need be to include a cart. I found the “owner” to be rude after questioning the add by his response: “What’s the matter, can’t you afford a cart”? This course is not feasible to walk for 95% of the golfing public!
Worth the drive, excellent experience
The golf course seems to be in better shape under new management. It's about an hours drive from the Twin Cities, 40 minutes from the northwest suburbs and well worth the experience.
I played first thing in the morning and the staff member helping me was excellent and accommodating. It's a great start to the day when you have a friendly reception and helpful personnel. The course was in excellent condition, the greens were well-maintained and the course Essene improvements of the past couple years. Recommend it to anyone interested in a short trip to Clearwater, Minnesota.
Weeds on the Fairway
This course needs a lot of work.
A lot. Conditions were horrible.
Weeds on the fairway.
Weeds in the sand traps.
Greens were rough
same as it was
staff was friendly
course was just alright
not very busy
greens were slow
decent for the price we paid
not going to hurry back
Fair value
The course was a bit damp not unusual considering the elevation and whether conditions the previous week. It's a decent value and a moderately difficult course. Hopefully, the grass will be a little shorter and the greens a bit quicker if I play again.
Tight, tricky target course with slow greens
Lots of water hazards & tight holes with lots of trees. Three holes border the Mississippi River, although the thick tree line obstructs the view. Par 70 with six par 3s.
Layout was too gimmicky for my tastes. Target golf on most shots, requiring pinpoint accuracy & distance control to avoid obstructions on your next shot. Even hitting the fairway often isn't accurate enough as your angle for your next shot can still be compromised, forcing a lay up or punch shot, costing an extra stroke. Irons are all that's really needed on all but about 4 holes. The par five 15th was basically a "7-iron-all-the-way" hole.
Not especially challenging, but the #1 & #2 handicap holes (#2 & #11) are probably unreasonably challenging for the average golfer.
Greens were among the slowest I've played with little break. Only challenge was making sure to never leave a putt short of the hole.
I recommend getting a cart: clubhouse is a couple city blocks away from the actual course and the pace was uncomfortably fast. We finished our round in 3 hours (4 hours is standard) and still had a long line of groups behind us waiting most of the time, too many to let play through.
Outhouses on the course. Electric carts.
eagolf coursegles trace
very nice course very picture perfect. the course is very well maintained. The staff was very good.
A fun challenge
Eagle trace is always in great condition, and the staff Is welcoming and friendly every time . This course is Super challenging and fun, bring your irons and your A game!!!!!!
Worst management ever, decent course
We booked online and arrived to the clubhouse to find that there were two tournaments going on. We were told, by what appeared to be a husband that was a co owner, he would fit us in and if we had any issues with pace of play then to come back to the clubhouse for a refund. We tried it out and he met us out on the course through 2 holes to check up on us. After playing 3 holes in an hour, we decided to call it quits and expected to get a refund that was mentioned prior to the round. Turns out, we come back to the clubhouse and we were greeted by the most disrespectful woman co owner, which appeared to be the wife, I've ever been treated by a golf course owner. We were polite and mentioned our expectation from our earlier conversation with the nice husband co owner. She basically threw a tantrum and said that we should have expected the round to be long, which we expected however we were under the impression that we would receive a full refund. She spoke with the other man and eventually gave a rain check to us. The course was in the shape that I would have expected for the price paid. In the end, I would not recommend the course to others if you have other options available. We will not be returning.
Scenic and Challenging
Well groomed and challenging. Scenic. Along Mississippi River. Lots of water and sand, Welcoming staff.
Club choice
No need to pull a driver on shorter narrower par 4s. Use mid irons/hybrid for control, you still get on in 2.
Good layout
A lot of doglegs and water pretty difficult but a lot of fun and challenges
Never will return.
5somes ahead of us, Ruined our outing. Poorly maintained and gimmicky holes. That's it will never be back. Can not bring in your own water!
Good day
Fun group on a course with good variety makes for a great day!
This coures could be a very nice coures
They need to fertilize the fairways and roughs. to kill all the clover and thicken the fairways. If the rough was thicker it would keep your ball from always rolling forever and end up in the hazards.
Buggy and Narrow
Extremely buggy! Could not walk up to a green without massive bugs attacking my head. Got to the point where I picked up my ball and just skipped the putting because I could not stand over my ball without 4 bugs biting at me.
As for the course, there are a few holes that are extremely narrow and many blind shots. Hole 2 is a dog leg right par 5 that is unlike anything I have ever seen. Worst hole of all time. Whoever designed this course should stop designing golf courses.
Greens were in good shape but the tee boxes and fairways were long and patchy.
Don't let the length fool you
the course was a little wet sunday with that being said the greens were in great shape this is a tough golf course i will play again. the only bad thing is the club house is so far way from the 1 and 10 tee so you can not stop at the turn.
