Poor green conditions.
I’ve played this course several times over the years and allow felt the course was a cut above the rest of the premium public courses. Recently my son came back from Japan for a visit and he wanted to play a first class course. Based on my previous experience, I suggested the Legends. We played on a Tuesday morning and I’m OK with paying $125 green fees, but I expect for the course to be in great shape and it wasn’t. Specifically, the greens were in bad shape for a highly rated course. The green were inconsistence, mostly slow and had plenty of unrepaired ball marks. I’ve seen better green conditions on public courses. Both of us felt, for the price, the course was not a good value and we’d think twice before going back.
Great layout and conditions
One of my favorite local courses. An interesting and fair track that is challenging. Great conditions, carts and GPS are great, and friendly staff. Beautiful setting
Part Links, Part Parkland- All Golf!
Legends Club is an upscale golf course located on a rolling tract of land with ponds and marsh areas along with wooded areas at the higher elevations. The variety of terrain is reflected in the design of the golf course, with about half of the holes laid out in a semi-lnks style with marshy areas lining the fairways and lots of mounding along the fairways and around the greens. Other holes are more parkland-style, with dense stands of trees along one or both sides of the fairways. Fairways are generously wide, smooth and in very good condition. Greens are enormous, smooth and fairly fast, undulating, with ridges or humps separating them into distinct putting areas. Place your approach shot in the wrong area and your putt will be an adventure. On the day we played the rough was not very high, so not very punitive. The only trouble came when a ball ventured into higher native grass areas or the marshy areas along many fairways. Water is definitely in play on at least half of the holes. The course has six sets of tees ranging from 7,126 yards to 5,310 yards, and slope ratings from 142 to 125. The forward men’s tees (White) are set at 6,046 yards, 69.7 rating, 131 slope. The course is surrounded by million dollar houses, but for the most part they are set far enough away that they really don’t intrude, except for the par 5 11th hole where a sliced tee shot may go OB into someone’s back yard. The course offers a variety of looks, semi-straight holes, right and left doglegs, elevation changes, and playing from the White tees we didn’t need driver on every hole, which made for a truly entertaining round. One of the more striking holes visually is the 350 yard par 4 eighth. From a slightly elevated tee the fairway resembles a straight chute flanked by tall trees on both sides. The trees run along the fairway until about 70 yards short of the green, which resembles an amphitheater, protected by bunkers on the front right and left, and mounds all the way around. The four par 3 holes as a set are one of the best features of the course. They all require a long carry to reach the green, and on numbers 13 (159 yards) and 17 (155 yards) if you’re short you’ll be wet. About the only shortcoming of the course was the condition of a few of the greens, which were full of old unrepaired pitch marks and dry spots. This may have been due to the lateness of the golf season in Minnesota combined with our late tee time. However, all in our foursome enjoyed the course and will welcome an opportunity to come back. The course is somewhat pricey, but for an occasional splurge offers a great golf experience.
Legends is a great course
The Legends is one of the top 3 public courses in the Twin Cities area. It is always in great condition, plays well and timely, and is quite challenging for every skill level. The greens are fast and true. Wind, water and trees make for a good test of your skills. Highly recommended.
Nice course but overpriced
This course was a lot of fun to play and was in great shape for the most part. There were several greens that had burned or dead spots on them. If I’m paying $106 for a round of golf, I expect the course to be in great shape. We had to change our tee time because of rain as well as more rain in the forecast. We teed off 20 minutes early in hopes of getting 18 in. We were charged full price. We were able to get our round in and I would play the course again but I would make sure I got the twilight rate. I don’t think it’s worth what they charge but still a nice course.
Very cool track
I really enjoyed this course, I had this on my list to play due to it being highly ranked by many online outlets. I would agree with their assessments, I think this course is wonderful. The clubhouse is very nice, looks brand new, large pro shop, cool restaurant with an outdoor patio area with a "Drive in" spot to grab food on the turn. Pretty neat. Nicely landscaped with great practice greens. Driving range is decent, not the greatest I have been on but they provided yardages which was nice. This course is challenging but it gives plenty of scoring opportunities. Greens were awesome, beautiful greens that rolled nicely. White sand bunkers which is always a plus. Some very cool par 3 holes, I really enjoyed them. Plenty of tee options, we played the tips and it was great. Pace was never an issue, plenty of bev cart passes, nice staff and a great round of golf. I recommend this course. Every other review on this site is fairly old, I would not judge the course based on those at all. I have played many high level courses and I think this one is very, very nice. I am glad I came and I agree with this being a top MN public course. Give it a shot.
Nice but over priced
Not worth $89. Otherwise nice. Challenging, but fair with multiple tee box options.
Great Course
Course is always in great shape and very fun to play. Well worth playing!
such a cold treatment on a hot day
first thing is the staff was so unpleasant to deal with ,very bad first impression, price is way to high for a track like this, charging troy dollars sorry we will go to troy for that kind of money.
Our tee time was delayed about 2 hours because of frost. It was a little chilly for the first 9 holes, but after that the course was fun to play.
The course offers a nice variety of challenging and scenic holes.
After extending a frost delay for a third time the front desk stated that because we booked thru Golf now we did not deserve the free range balls.
Although the golf was good - we will not be back to this facility-ever again!
Great Golf Course
I would recommend this course to everyone who is a serious player, it is a great layout and is also very fair. A great combination of challenging holes and holes you can get after and try to make afew birdies.
Challenging course that was fair and had very good greens.
i found the course personnel friendly. The course was in great shape, The greens rolled true and were pretty fast. The course layout was fair. They also provide a variety of tees for those preferring longer or shorter courses.
The course was beautiful with a good variety of natural features and great conditions.
Good variety of elevation change, woods, prairie, wetland, lakes, and berming. The courses best features was that each hole was sculpted to buffer you from other holes, and create some privacy. One of the best designed golf courses I have played. Excellent conditions and very enjoyable. Spendy for most golfers, so typically look for twilight or other deals if playing regularly. I played it on a 42 degree cloudy day with winds being around 30 mph, so not many people on the course, thus the round went fast. Although weather was not ideal, my experience was great.
