Reviews
Under a lot of construction resulting in temp greens and t boxes
Course is great, just under a lot of construction now so many temporary greens and t boxes. It appears the improvements will be nice. They took out a number of trees to open it up, they should take out the large tree on number 9 which block the fairway. Should be great when renovations are complete
First time impression
Course was in very good condition. Number 3 is in the process of being revamped, but it was still playable although hey killed about half of fairway grass. I didn’t feel that there were any “tricky” holes you sometimes run into. Not too sure why they gave from the green tees a 135 slope as I have played courses with a lower slop (125-128) that seemed much more difficult. Overall I would definitely play again.
Great place to play!
First time at Island View and was very pleasantly surprised! Friendly and accommodating staff, friendly players on the course, plus the course layout and conditions were fabulous!
Nice Track
Fun layout not overly long but some really great holes. Greens are in great shape
No reservation received by course
Booked a Hot Deal for Island View for 10;00 am. Arrived with my son to play and was told they had an event scheduled for the day. Was also told they have never used Golf Now reservations. I need a refund for this erroneous booking!
It’s fun
The course itself is fun has plenty of trees greens are in good shape! Vandys restaurant is really good probably the best in town! I would recommend this course! It is a little on the pricey side compared to a few courses in the area!
The younger membership is fun but there are a lot of snobby older members
A little sketchy around the edges
This course is basically a wooded farm course on rolling hills with push-up greens. Right now the course is not in as good of shape as I have seen it in the past. It has bluegrass fairways and the greens are all quite speedy but there is evidence of stress on many of the greens and the fringes. You have to allow for the bounce when hitting approach shots, as the greens are mostly all firm. The surfaces are all quite consistent and pretty speedy. There has been an attempt to lengthen the course by building some new tee boxes. Not a fan of either the new 10th box, as you are hitting your approach to one of the firmest greens with a long club, or the 18 box. When they redid pieces of this place they should have thought about the 15th hole, which is the cheesiest hole on the course. Additionally, tree trimming and or removal should be a priority here. The people here all are quite friendly and inviting, but if I was spending my dollars, I would spend a few more and head to Chaska Town course.
Fast Greens, Challenging Course
Island View Golf Club is set on rolling terrain so there are moderate elevation changes, sloping fairways, and lots of uphill and downhill shots. With five sets of tees ranging from 6,570 yards to 5,019 yards, the course is playable for most skill levels. The fairways are lined with relatively short rough and moderate tree cover. You'll be able to find your ball but you'll probably have to punch back into the fairway. Water comes into play on about five holes and there are well-placed fairway bunkers on many of the longer holes. The greens provide a great deal of variety, some are slightly elevated with a false front and others allow run-up shots, some have berms or mounds as backstops to catch long approach shots, some are somewhat flat and others have significant slope. The one constant is that they are all FAST. Every member of our group agreed that these were the fastest greens they'd played this season. This sentiment was usually uttered when a putt went screaming past the hole after just being nudged downhill. One of the prettiest holes on the course is the par 5 third. From an elevated tee you have a view of water on the right that you'll have to avoid on your second and third shots. Trees framing the fairway will provide a spectacular view in the Fall. The 351 yard par 4 13th is an unusual hole because it requires two carries over the same body of water. Your tee shot will have to find the landing area between the pond on the right and fairway bunkers on the left. Except for an extreme left pin placement, you'll have to go over the water on your approach shot also. Take enough club, because a berm behind the green will stop any shots that go long. The 14th, a 567 yard par 5, has water on the right that may be distracting on the tee shot, but really shouldn't be in play. In front and left of the green is another pond that may be trouble if you don't keep your second shot toward the right side of the fairway. Only about a half hour from downtown Minneapolis, the views of the lake and the mature tree cover give the course a feeling of being quite a bit farther into the hinterlands. It's definitely worth the drive.
Sneaky Good Track
Island View is a semi-private club in Waconia that offers a parkland experience with elevation changes and near-country club conditions. Original nine has a nice variety of holes; with the par 5 3rd and the downhill Par 4 5th as standouts. The back nine plays shorter and tighter with a strong finish with 17 and 18 playing back into the prevailing wind off Lake Waconia. Greens are either elevated or tilt from back to front, so staying below the hole is paramount.
Course renovations in recent years have resulted in bunker replacement, tree removal and updated routings of 13 and 15.
Island View represents a better golf course than Deer Run or Timber Creek in the west metro and would recommend to anyone looking for a good value and pace of play of at just about 4 hours.
