RedTail Golf Club

About
Atypical of many Florida golf courses, RedTail Golf Club is a links-style layout dotted with 100-year-old oak trees and azaleas among its rolling green fairways. Designed by Dave Harman, who also did Shingle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, the course features four lakes with water coming into play on the last five holes. Holes 14-18 work their way around the largest lake on the course, while the finishing hole's approach shot plays over another body of water in front of the clubhouse. Located in rural Sorrento a little more than a half hour north of Orlando, RedTail Golf Club prides itself on catering to "members only."

Course Conditions
Course is in rough shape. Fairways and areas around bunkers are littered with thick weeds. Most greens were in good condition, a few with some areas you could tell they were working on. Although the on course conditions were below average, this course has a really great layout. With some TLC, this could become a course I’d go back to regularly if they worked on making sure the fairways had good grass and were mostly weed free.
Course Conditions
There was a time when this was one of the premier courses in there. Of late there have been some poor reviews and so a group of us decided to have a go at it for ourselves. We were pleasantly surprised… no where as bad as some of the reviews stated… staff was cordial, pace of play was reasonable, some fairways were a little rough (mainly because of recent heavy rains). The greens weren’t perfect, however, in pretty good shape. We will return!
Goat ranch
Yes goat ranch has better grass then this place.. the owners have ran this place into oblivion.. This course did not need the current owners to creat such a disgusting place.. I could and would not recommend this place to my worst enemies.. when you look at the grounds around the clubhouse and pro shop that will be the grass and weeds you will continue to see for 18 fairways.. go to another course for a better experience save your money..
Still Hurting
I SO much want to love this course. I played it 2-3x per year pre-COVID. Unfortunately, the conditions went down and I kept reading bad reviews. It popped on my radar again with a few positive reviews that the "course was back" so I booked. I'm disappointed to say it's not and the conditions were very poor. From tee to green, the biggest problem seems to be a complete lack of effort and attention to detail. For example, LOTS of bare spots everywhere - tees, fairways, rough, etc. Several greens had some patch disease that meant they were unputtable if you had to go through them. Bunkers had not been raked in days or longer. Weeds dominated the rough, bunker sides and even in some fairways. Very think fairways on almost every hole. I LOVE the layout, but course conditions were just awful. It would seem they're mining it for the $40 green fee just to get cashflow with no intent to improve the course. I suggest shutting it down, make the needed improvements and then come back with a $75-100 green fee to support maintenance. It was a side experience on such a great routing.
poor conditions
The entire course is dead grass and weeds. The greens are mostly decent with some really bad spots. The staff acts like they are doing you favor for letting you play the course. They are very unwelcoming.
I played this for the first time because they said the course was coming back still needs work but very nice layout and the staff was great
Very challenging
Course is a lot of fun and extremely challenging with a ridiculously good price. Some greens have its patchy areas that need work but overall it’s very much worth playing.
Outstanding course for the money
If you’re reading this review you’re probably like I was and researching the course to make sure you don’t waste your money and time. Let me tell you this course is an absolute steal. It’s important to manage expectations when it comes to course conditions because there are a few holes(1 and 7) that are pretty rough. Other than that, I think the course was overall a great experience. The greens were well cared for and most of the fairways were more than playable. If you’re looking for Augusta conditions for $40-50 for all you can play don’t waste your time. If you’re looking for a great course to bring your buddies to and have a day full of golf and good times than this is the course for you.
Worth the money
Course was in much better shape than older reviews. Fun, rewarding layout with tough on the eye tee shots. Greens and fairways could use love but were more than playable. Definitely worth the money and looking forward to what this course can be.
Nice day
When we arrived not much direction it looked like the course was not open
The young lady was very nice when we checked in for our 9:30am tee time
We loaded up and headed for the 1st hole, when we pulled up they were 12 carts deep not a good sign
The starter was new and you had to approach him to check in, for some reason the tee box was empty he did not know what he was doing finally a 4 ball move up to tee off and then 2 young kids came out of nowhere and cut the line to tee off as they owned the place and no one did nothing about it
Now the course tee boxes need work fairways need the grass to grow in and the greens not too bad golfers need to fix their ball marks
The layout is great and offers a few challenges which makes you guess your shots
I will definitely make the 1 hour drive again to see if the course improves
Great value!
We played 5 courses in the $50 range in greater Orlando. This was the best one by far. They also allow you to play all day for one rate. We actually got to play 27 hours for 45 bucks!
Awesome course
Course is a lot of fun, the layout is unique and different from a lot of my locals. It's not in tip top shape but more than playable. Staff is very friendly and they have an all you can play deal which you can't beat. Only place that's $45 in the mornings. Me and my friends have been here 12-13 times and always have a great time. Highly recommend.
Great value, challenging layout!
Course conditions are improving daily. It’s a fun challenging course and still offered at a great price. Wonderful layout, great value.
Course is improving
This used to be one of the best courses around. They had some difficulty about a year ago with equipment and the course fell off. It seems to be bouncing back. Greens and fairways are much improved from just a couple of months ago. Price is great for this course. Can’t wait to see the progress. Highly recommend.
Better than you think
When I played Redtail on January 6th, the course needed some work but was very playable. Since then I read some reviews that were so critical, I wasn't sure I should go back. On February 13th, I decided to see for myself. Conditions had improved. The Greens were beautiful but slow. Tee boxes, fairways, and bunkers were more than adequate. Besides that the course is very interesting and challenging. You need to keep the ball in play at Redtail as there are many areas of dense vegetation that will gobble up errant shots. The price is reasonable compared to many other courses. I would definitely recomment this course.
Disappointing
The course layout is challenging as expected. The course condition was not being maintained. The rough when cut left the clippings and made it impossible to find your ball. The fairways were not maintained making finding your ball. in the fairways, sometimes impossible. I have enjoyed playing the course before, but unless the conditions improve greatly, will not play it again.
