Princeton Country Club
Played On 06/20/2023Challenging short track in the central NJ area
Friendly staff from the pro shop to the starter. Short but challenging track due to narrow fairways and small size greens. Had a early morning tee time midweek so pace wasn't an issue.
Marine Park Golf Course
Played On 09/11/2020Great muni track, decent conditions in COVID-19 time
First round played in three years but conditions were decent considering COVID times. Late afternoon Friday round found the course packed. Nice to see people but course was backed up like it was a weekend round. Yes tee boxes were a bit beaten and greens were shaggy but the course is still playable. Actually not a bad job considering limited staff.
Holbrook Country Club
Played On 08/15/2020Great price value during difficult times
Really unfair to judge any course during a pandemic. Just happy to see venues make an extra effort to keep courses operational. Great value for the weekend for single cart riding. Staff is very friendly from pro shop to starter and had tasty food available. Course conditions seen better days but still playable especially during this difficult time. Not a long track but does present challenges with its tree line fairways. Great time spent on a Saturday morning round that was complete in 3 1/2 hours.
Meadows Golf Center
Played On 07/31/2020Great friendly place to practice
Had a wonderful golf experience with great weather. Owner Russell is super friendly and he's a man that does it all at his place. A great place practice hitting balls and the 9 hole course is a great layout to practice your irons and short game. Would frequent more if in the area.
Championship at Saratoga Spa State Park
Played On 07/29/2020Great classic design track with plenty of length
As much play this course gets from locals/tourists, conditions were remarkable for a state funded course. Had a early morning tee time and paired with players that kept s good pace. Thus my round was finished in 3 hours 50 minutes. Tee boxes were decent and fairways are in great condition. Due to the amount of play, you will find greens with fresh unfixed divots. Overall, I had a wonderful time with beautiful weather and friendly staff. A definite must play if you happen to be in the Saratoga Springa area.
Ballston Spa Country Club
Played On 07/28/2020Challenging course due to narrow fairways and smaller size greens.r
A played mostly by locals. Staff was super friendly and course conditions were great. Great track to play located near Saratoga Springs. A great option to play if you already played the Saratoga Spa, Lake, and National courses.
Meadows Golf Center
Played On 07/02/2020Great place to practice and the game
Friendly place to learn and pick up the game. Course is executive length and will test your irons due to 7 of 9 par 3's. Had a wonderful experience practicing while talking with the the owner Russell. If you're looking for a laid back friendly place to practice and hit balls, this is the place to do it. Pretty unfair to judge place due to the pandemic but I was told ribs and food was usually available, just this day.
Old York Country Club
Played On 08/06/2019Challenging layout, super friendly staff.
Second time playing Old York and the staff remained super friendly just like last time. Pretty unfair to judge the course conditions because it is a victim of heavy down pour on several holes. Four holes were cart path only for repairs so it's not neglected. Fairways are mid to narrow with greens on the smaller size. Most pins were 6 to 8 feet from the edge of the greens so scoring was pretty challenging under these conditions. Enjoyed a tasty meal prior to my round and would definitely play again if the opportunity presents itself. Definitely worth playing than dealing with usual shenanigans on public courses.
Forest Park Golf Course
Played On 07/12/2019Great conditions for a busy course
Played Forest Park many times. Played early Friday morning so I avoided the infamous slow play for whatits known for. Tee boxes were a little beaten up but normal for NYC course. Fairways/greens was in the best shape i ever seen them. A pleasant round enjoyed on a conveniently located track. Staff was friendly
Lakes/Fairways at Centennial Golf Club
Played On 07/11/2019Beautiful conditions and challenging
Played Centennial many times. To make a long story short:
Teeboxes - decent, fairways - good (minimal divots), greens - great (putts rolled true).
Staff was friendly and food was delicious.
Only negatives was being stuck behind a slow playing threesome and course was 90 degrees. Not much recent rain and course was bone dry.
Bally’s Golf Links at Ferry Point
Played On 07/10/2019You get what you pay for
Yes, most people will think the price to play this track is outrageous. You cannot argue the course is aesthetically beautiful and conditions are kept immaculate. The beautifully designed holes reward you with good shots so the course is definitely fair.
The newly built club house is beautiful, attentive staff is courteous, and food is delicious. Yes it is expensive to play but most people don't realize it's better than most country clubs and you get what you pay for.
Red at Bethpage State Park Golf Course
Played On 07/05/2019Not fully recovered, decent to play
My favorite track of the 5 courses at Bethpage. First hole still recovering from the PGA championship will probably take all summer. Conditions weren't the worst but I have seen it better.
Had an earlier tee time but still played slow. Expect a 5 hour round at least.
Doral Golf Club, The
Played On 05/23/2018Tough 9 hole course
Beautiful challenging lay out. Although not very long, shot making is key on this tough 9 hole course. Course conditions was decent, friendly staff from the pro shop check-in to course maintenance were friendly. Not a bad place to venture to if you're in the area.
Clearview Park Golf Course
Played On 12/04/2017Convienent track for Queens locals
Had the first tee time out so the notoriously slow pace wasn't an issue. Despite having an early tee time, didn't get out until over 2 hours later due to frost delay. This late in the season, the course didn't play that bad. Yes there are leaves all over the course, tee boxes are worn, and ball marks all over greens. Keep in mind it is December with cold weather and winds. Maintenace I'm sure isn't at full staff this time of year. People have to keep in mind Clearview is one of the most played tracks in the northeast. Its a cash cow so they don't have to kiss anybody's butt. Staff was ways cordially friendly with me. Overall for me, a pleasant day spent playing golf with no shenanigan issues.
Papago Golf Course
Played On 10/29/2017Challenging lengthy track with great conditions
Managed to squeeze in a round during a quick visit to the Phoenix Valley. Papago I was told to be the future home course of the ASU Sun Devils. Didn't know anything about Papago prior to my unexpected round. The course conditions were close to immaculate. Teeboxes and fairways were just about perfectly lush. Greens to me were a bit shaggy to consider quick but despite this still rolled true. From the tips the course plays over 7300 yards. Playing from these tee boxes presents many challenges especially the par 3's that play from 230 to over 250 yards. I would have given 5 stars only due to the construction for the new clubhouse was going on. Off course amenities were limited but staff was still super friendly. Definitely a hidden gem course in Phoenix. Extremely good track when locals consider it a muni track.
Berkshire Valley Golf Course
Played On 10/13/2017Solid track, local knowledge helps with the layout and greens
Was pleasantly surprised, heard nice things about this place and was glad I finally got the chance to play it. Super friendly staff helped up get situated and my friends and I enjoyed our round on a Friday afternoon. Course conditions were great and fairways and greens topped the private clubs I played earlier this year. Holes have many variations as in narrow/moderately wide fairways, force carries, water, and elevation changes. Love how some holes were built along the mountain slope creating picturesque views. With autumn turn, the golf course view was beautiful. Was pleased I actually used all 14 clubs. Definitely worth the drive for a NYC local especially if you could play the other high quality tracks in the area.
Pine Ridge Golf Club
Played On 10/12/2017Solid challenging track, moderately size fairways and good conditions
Thursday morning tee time, had no issues with pace. Friendly gentleman checked us in at the pro shop and had nice round overall. Despite the nice weather, the wind gusts were blowing heavy. Miss fairways here, you're forced to pitch out from pine trees (hence the name). A bit of a drive from NYC but worth the drive especially playing in the middle of the week.
Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course
Played On 10/11/2017Great convenient track for NYC locals
Booked an early morning round on a Wednesday to avoid pace issues. Course is in great shape especially for this time of year. Always enjoy coming here due to the convenient location and friendly staff. Not a long track but I wouldn't consider it walker friendly. Riding is advisable playing here due to the layout and design. Lunch was tasty and enjoyed eating outside on the rear porch overlooking Van Cortland Lake.
Regulation Eighteen at Smithtown Landing Golf Club
Played On 10/08/2017Solid track, local knowledge helps with tricky layout and greens
Due to slight rain, course was practically empty. Despite this, still finished the round in 5 hrs and 15 minutes due to being stuck behind slow players. Anyways I love the layout and design. It's a short track with various dog leg turns and elevation changes. Fairways are moderately wide and friendly. Very good course conditions especially for a public course. Just another great playing public course in Suffolk county Long Island.
The Golf Club at Middle Bay
Played On 10/06/2017Solid track in beautiful shape
First time this year playing Middle Bay and was glad I played. Staff like last time was super friendly and helpful. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were all lush. Very few divot marks in fairways and ball marks on greens (of course from careless golfers). Putts were speedy and ball rolled true with little to no bounce. Obviously funds were put into this place and it was really nice to see. Course conditions were on par with private clubs.
I completely agree. It is a minimum of a 5 hour round. The golf shop always inserts other groups between tee times. I live in NYC and will never play this course because it's way too long. It's not a bad course layout, it just takes way too long.
