The best destination golf courses designed by architect Arthur Hills
When looking back at the most prolific architects of the 1980s and 1990s, Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye and Tom Fazio are certainly among the best. But right there nipping at their heels is Arthur Hills. Hills -- whose firm, Arthur Hills & Steve Forrest Associates, is based in Toledo, Ohio -- built an international footprint, spreading well beyond Michigan and the Midwest to both coasts as well as abroad.
Hills (1930-2021) earned gigs in many of the country's top golf destinations, including northern Michigan, northern California, Florida, Hilton Head Island, Las Vegas, Puerto Rico, San Diego and the Texas Hill Country. Some of these courses are absolutely worth consideration as the destination's top draw, like Bay Harbor Golf Club or the San Francisco Bay Area's Half Moon Bay Golf Links.
Many of these courses have made one of our Golfers' Choice lists including Illinois' Stonewall Orchard Golf Club and Maryland's The Links at Lighthouse Sound, one of the best courses in the Mid-Atlantic region.
We've compiled photos from many of the top Arthur Hills destination courses you can play.
