Halfway through October the top-rated courses of the month feature a mix of both Northern destinations winding down their seasons and Southern destinations beginning to ramp up their peak months.
This week's top course is the Golf Club at South Hampton, in St. Augustine, Fla. While many of the reviews came before Hurricane Matthew hit, one of our Top 1,000 reviewers, DJSII rated the course afterwards and mentioned how impressed she was with how the course was able to get back into operation.
Also, somewhat surprising, several high-end resort courses in the desert Southwest made the list having just come out of fall overseeding (Jason Scott Deegan recently wrote about what to expect in Palm Springs during the fall overseed season). In Las Vegas, however, the Wolf Course at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort, checking in at no. 10 this week, is wall-to-wall Rye grass all year long, and a course I've recommended, particularly for October golf in Vegas.
Meanwhile, a Canadian golf course made the top 10, as well as two lesser known but very intriguing golf courses in North Carolina. You can see what your fellow golfers have to say about these courses by clicking on each course's guide link.

One of the top-10 courses this week is Eagle's Chase Golf Club, and one of the reviews comes from reviewer goolsby2003, who submitted a wonderfully detailed review as well as six images of the rolling, wooded course.

Review of the week
The Rio Olympic Course officially opens to the public this month. But it's not the only golf course in the country. We were surprised to receive a review and images of Fazenda da Grama Golf Club in Itupeva. Reviewer Holandes had this to say:
Most beautiful course I have ever played. Private, so with no congestion on the course whatsoever. Most players are regulars, and very friendly, creating an atmosphere where you feel instantly at home. The staff are excellent, professional and go the extra mile. Nothing but praise for this course. Player Tip: As it can be warm at times, walking instead of riding can be tiring!
