Crooked Creek Golf Club

Crooked Creek is a subdivision track that one plays for a "cheap" (inexpensive) round or for the casual nondiscriminating player. Due to usual conditions (crab grass infringing on Bermuda, scant sand in largely unattended bunkers, mostly unkept tee boxes, a couple of "rock hard" bare landing areas of fairways of 2nd and 13th holes), having toured the place is "nothing to brag" about.

The layout is odd and not a track that is easy to get comfortable with, especially over the first nine where the strong hitting player must "club down" off the tee to the point of not pulling the driver out of the bag until the 9th hole. The course is not long, but one gets little run out due to the Bermuda fairways so it plays "every yard" of each hole's listed length. As three of the four 5 pars are unreachable in two shots and hole shape can take driver out of consideration on a couple of the full length 4 pars (#10 and 14) on the back side, it's not a course the big hitter can "bring to it's knees". To it's credit, the staff does keep the greens shorn but they are generally over-watered (water logged) - so incoming shots will hold but pitches, chips, and putts invariably tend to consistently "come up short" of the cups.

The place is definitely "in the running" for the most "bare cupboard" clubhouse in the USA - it lacks practically all golf gear, has no food for sale and scant offering of bottled or canned drinks, and it's the only place of memory that has no availability of ice. The practice green is well kept, but small so not offering much in the way short game improvement. It's nice there's a conveniently situated driving range to "get loose", but it lacks defined targets or yardages to get "dialed in".

All in all, it's not a place to be proud of visiting but still has merit (despite its deficiencies) for players simply needing to "get a round in".
