Not sure how to title this
The gentleman in the pro shop was very nice and accommodating. I booked on line and was not paired with anyone. That being said, the cart paths pretty much made the journey uneventful and the layout was such that it was pretty easy to navigate the course. It would have been nice to have been paired with someone who knew the course since there are some tee shots that definitely need local knowledge. The golf carts have seen their better days but at least they work. The condition of the fairways were ok at best and if anyone who plays the course finds a level lie, let me know where that is. Off the fairway one will find some rough and a lot of southern red clay. The greens were ok. They are mostly small greens and putted a tad slow. Pace of play this day was ok until the last few finishing holes where there was a back up of 4 tee times consisting of all singles.I know some people prefer to play alone, as do I occasionally, and I guess that’s ok if the course is pretty open, but there are times where it’s necessary to pair up singles together in order to avoid those types of log jams. Considering how expensive some courses are, for a public course, you get a fairly good bang for your buck at this one.
Disrespectful employees on course
My review is based on the fact that I was playing solo and on #10 got behind a group of four whom at least two course employees. They looked back and saw that I was waiting on every hole and never allowed me to go through. Ruining the round. The pictures are dated, greens are small and in bad shape. Find another course in Hickory.
Beautiful course but tough
First time playing here, great price, conditions very good for off season, everything brown except greens. Greens were speedy, it was hard to stop the ball near the hole on some greens. Huge elevation changes, lots of swales and gullies that can grab your ball if you are not in the center of the fairway. Back 9 was more difficult. Overall enjoyed it (shot 88) but need a few rounds to figure out the greens better.
February 29th
I’ve played this course close to 30 to 40 times in the last 3 years due to how close it is to my house. This passed summer they raised their prices and I anticipated them using that money for cart paths or amenities. Nothing improved from my regular visits. Starting the summer of 2024 prices were around $50 which wasn’t terrible but the connivence made it worth it. Moving into the winter prices were raised again at one point I saw $70. This made the cost comparable to Rock Barn. For those who have played both would laugh if you tried comparing the two. Today I came to play nine around 330. The staff member at the clubhouse told me idk if we can get you in since you don’t have a tee time. I turned around and saw a total of 10 cars in the parking lot and no one pulling in. He then said well squeeze you in as if I was inconveniencing him. The greens and fairways are in horrible shape moving into spring with the greens being infected with some disease, followed by the rest of the course looking like a construction site. I won’t be returning anymore. Their sister course Granada is a better course at this point which was a goat trail in 2023. This course wants to be an elite private level course but its condition and staff are comparable to a ymca municipal course in the ghetto.
Winter Golf
This course has Bermuda greens which are always fun to play in the winter. The course has come a long way in the last several years as it has new ownership. A lot of work has been done to the course, and it is starting to show. The greens are the best they have been in 10 years.
Players Ridge
The 18 hole round incl. cart cost around 30 bucks on Golf now. Decent value for money.
The greens were in excellent condition, fairway grass was dormant (winter) which made it difficult to find balls.
The bunkers needed a little TLC but I give the staff a pass due to recent torrential rain events.
Some of the lake views are superb. Overall it was a really enjoyable day out
Empty Pockets
Arrived 1145 Sunday morning and parking lot was half empty. The conditions are ok so what's the problem? THE PRICE ! 60 bucks to play this course is WAY too much! The only reason I played was i played for 40 which is the highest this course should ever charge. I live 5 minutes away and used to play quite often but no more because of the PRICE! With this companies disaster at Granada Farms you would think that a parking lot full of people for 40 at Players Ridge would be some help. Apparently NOT. Most of the time u get what u pay for but here you feel like u don't. This superb location, decent conditions and layout should be packed every weekend BUT until the price matches reality they will struggle. It's really a shame!
Much Improved
Great to see this course is finally reaching its potential. The greens are fantastic. The fairways are very playable and the rough is challenging. My only complaint is the cups need more frequent rotation because the holes seemed a little rough around the edges. Definitely go to the restaurant for food and drinks because it is much better than plain bar food.
Second time playing, still like it, good value
The greens were a little slower than we'd prefer, but it was 96 degrees, and while I didn't ask this in the pro shop, I could see that being by design to prevent the greens from burning out in this stretch of peak summer heat.
But the greens were still green, rolled pretty solid for them being a tad long, and overall condition was good. There are a few holes that look like they've been worked on, are growing in, or could use a touch more beautification. But we really like the layout - some dog legs, but not every hole, some elevation changes - not always a difference landing zone compared to the green, but sometimes a drop in-between you'll want to carry.
You can definitely lose a ball or two, but the course is not frustratingly punishing either. Just a very good all around course for the price. A bit of a drive for me, but it's in a good spot in the middle of me in NC and a friend who is in eastern TN. Probably wouldn't drive this far otherwise, but it's possible because of the value.

Thank you for your detailed feedback and understanding regarding the course conditions during the heatwave. We're glad you see the value in our course and layout, and appreciate you making the trip. We hope to host you for another round in the future! Thank you for choosing Player's Ridge.
Keeps getting better....
The fairways and greens were the best i've seen in over 2 years. The improvements on the sand traps and tree clearing done last year are also great. Always a good challenge and i enjoy playing there.

Wow! We are so happy you enjoyed your round, u634003816! We look forward to seeing you again soon at Player's Ridge Golf.
Great value course for playing, "amenities" mediocre
Really enjoyed this course. Planned to play two rounds at another course with a friend who was in town for work, but the first round at the other course had some work in progress on a few holes and the bugs were driving us absolutely nuts, so we decided to drive an hour to another course hoping it'd be better -- we decided on Player's Ridge, and very glad we did. Much nicer layout, more fun changes in elevation on holes at this course despite not being legitimately *in the mountains* like the other one. No bugs annoying us. Layout was really nice, aesthetically pleasing minus a couple few holes, but they weren't bad. But overall it was very good, and even better for the money - it was twilight rate on a Sunday, so a little lower than the average rate you'll pay here, but I'd pay the normal rate too. Restaurant that's in the same building as the (very small) pro shop was closed this day unfortunately - would have been nice to have more food options or a mixed drink. There is a very convenient driving range and practice green. They were out of all beer in the pro shop coolers too, but was told the person that usually orders various supplies was on vacation. So some various flukes all around, but had a great time playing the course, and even though it's a bit of a drive, for the value, I'd like to go back.

We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed your experience at Player's Ridge, especially appreciating our course layout and elevation changes! Apologies for the inconvenience with the restaurant and the beer supply – we look forward to welcoming you back soon for an even better visit. Thanks for choosing Player's Ridge.
First Timer
The boyfriend and I decided at the last minute we wanted to play golf somewhere even though we were not close to home. Picked this course of the internet and scheduled a tee time. Fun course, some challenging holes, up and down hills and drop offs if you miss the fairway. Teed off at 4pm and pace was great, no one pushing us from behind and group in front stayed on pace. Until the the back nine when others were allowed to begin their round. Had a couple of goof offs in front of us who "play here all the time" hitting 2-3 tee shots each and just in general, goofing off, We eventually skipped a hole and went around them as we should have been in front of them anyway. And a single teeing off on 10 behind us thought we should let him play through, but we were already waiting on the goof offs in front and weren't going to wait on him, too.
They shouldn't allow teeing off on the back nine. There's already players there in their own slots.
Ate dinner there afterwards in the Peruvian restaurant. VERY GOOD. Wish we lived closer.....

We're glad you enjoyed the course and the Peruvian restaurant, and we apologize for the disruptions you encountered on the back nine. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we hope to see you again.
Players Ridge Review
Fun, playable course, fairways and greens in good shape. Evidence of course improvements being made.

Hello, u387223068. Thank you for visiting us at Player's Ridge Golf. We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
Beautiful course
A friend and I played a round and it was great. We are from Florida so it's quite a different type of course. It has some nice hills and for a course in a community, it didn't seem too tight the greens were in good shape and very well maintained.

Wow! We are so happy you enjoyed your round, tthompson731! We look forward to seeing you again soon at Player's Ridge Golf.
Thank you for your feedback, wilsjon! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the course and restaurant, and we appreciate your suggestion regarding the cup rotation. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!
