A Fun Day of Getting Stomped
Love your course.I especially appreciate all the efforts you are making to prevent the spread of Covid. You are doing the best job of any of the courses I play. I do have one minor complaint. WHO LET THAT 4TH PLAY WITH US? Oh yea, thats right, I invited him and he proceeded to stomp the three of us into the ground. I think he shot 2 over. It was fun to watch. Keep up the good work!!!
The hospitality at this golf was very poor
Today, my husband drove 60 miles to play at this golf course and was very disappointed. The overall golf course was very nice, but the the hospitality was very poor and the prices for amenities where outrageous. My husband has played golf at a lot of different places and never once felt the unwelcoming response as he did today at this golf course. Not only did he feel the unwelcome response from the staff but the regular members as well. This type of business will keep players from returning to this golf course.
bad attitude
This course looks nice enough but if my first encounter with key staff (owner and pro?) is anything to go by, forget it and choose to play at a welcoming and friendly course. Poor attitude to newcomers is poor business practice and will keep players away. I'll be passing the details of my unpleasant experience on to all in the Triangle...
enjoyable unpretentious popular course
An enjoyable, unpretentious course, Occoneechee has stepped up its game in recent years and become one of the most popular courses open to the public serving Durham and Chapel Hill. Excellent course maintenance, good staff, challenging greens, and a terrific men's golf association have been game changers. Those factors more than compensate for an inconsistent design that mixes mostly fair and straightforward American woodland holes with a couple of dubious ones (4, 11). Located between US 70 and US 70 Business, traffic noise can be distracting on 4, 5, 9, 11, 12, 13.
Pure Golf
I played it today for the millionth time. This is a fun, no frills, old school golf course. Conditions are excellent currently (greens are always at least above average). Easy to walk, good variety of holes, generally very good pace of play. Membership is a good deal.
Well Maintained Fun Course
This course is very well maintained and reasonably priced for non-members. It is not a particularly hard course, but there are some elevation changes and a number of water hazards, so there is some challenge for better players and fun for all. Frankly, the only nits I can find are heavy traffic noise where the course meanders near large roadways, and the fact that if you hook your drive on number 1 your ball is likely to be mixed in with range balls and lost. Overall though, this is one of the few courses outside our home course that my daughter and I plan to return to.
Will become my go-to course
THE GOOD: The course was in great shape, all things considered. The greens were well-maintained and fast. The course wasn't crowded, even on a perfect spring day either.
THE BAD: Downed tree branches lined the rough along a handful of holes. Not sure if this was a project done by the staff that will be fixed or something unintentional that will not be, but it made any stray shots that much more troublesome.
OVERALL: I loved the course and will probably end up calling this my home course.
The downed trees are remnants of the ice storm. Hopefully they remove it soon. It's a fun and walkable course. The membership is a great deal!
