Must Play
Great course. Conditioning exceeded our expectations. You can tell the staff are proud of what they have up here.
Don't understand how this place isn't full up all the time. Good layout that is in great shape with some really fun approach shots on both sides.
Will be back
Challengingly Fun!!!
We enjoyed this course immensely. The owners were very friendly, amenable and accommodating. We rode the front 9 four times this week and the back 9 once. Fairways are wide and open. Greens are spacious and break away from the mountains.
Love # 3, driver 5 feet from pond, 5 wood over the pond to the green, two putt. #7: 541 yard par 5, straight. #9 downhill shot to the green, nice! Back 9 is challenging, avoid the water. Some blind shots. Wish I could have played twice.
Beautiful views, take extra balls. We were camping at Standing Indian National Forest. What FUN!!!
Hidden Gem
I play a lot of golf and this is one of the best courses in the Triangle that's open to the public. The layout is superb. The tee boxes, fairways and greens are immaculate. There was plenty of sand in the bunkers. It's obvious to me that the matinence team has put a lot of care into the course. They have a fantastic practice facility. The clubhouse is very nice with an extremely friendly staff. It was not crowded at all and the price point is phenomenal. Mill Creek is well worth the drive from North Raleigh. I plan to play here often.
Great course for the buck
9/10 on shape of course, very nice design. Not too long but not short either. Greens and fairways were top notch.
Great layout and condition
Played on a Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm to take advantage of the twilight rate of $32. First off, the course is an absolute steal at $32.
This is a very well designed golf course that was well though out and executed. Very appealing to the eye, has a lot of trees lining the fairways, but all and all it wasn't overly tight. Played very fair without a bunch of blind shots or gimmicks.
There was nobody in front of us, so pace of play was great. We had a 3 some and allowed two singles to play through us during the round.
Greens were in great shape, had just been top dressed earlier that day it seemed, so were a bit sandy to start the round, but that disappeared after it rained for 20 or 30 minutes. They were punched 3-4 weeks back, didnt show much sign of that, rolled great and were receptive.
One tee box on the first par 3 was in rough shape, but all of the fairways and greens were pretty close to perfect.
Staff was very friendly, nice range facility with chipping area as well as a separate putting green.
All three of us thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back for sure.
Atrocious Greens
They have had multiple problems with the greens when they were bent grass. The solution was to install MiniVerde Hybrid Bermuda grass. Since the installation of the new greens, every spring there has been at least one green they have almost completely lost and up to almost 4 entire greens one winter.
This spring is no different. The front of hole 3 needs a re-sod and a growth period to repair the damage. It is nothing but green sand and painted dirt. Just when I thought that was bad, I saw the green at Hole 4. The Hole 4 green needs to be closed down and completely resurfaced, there is more painted dirt then blades of grass on the green.
I appreciate the initiative Mill Creek showed to put in Hybrid Bermuda greens. However, over time it has been proven in the region that MiniVerde is a failure. Champions Bermuda greens have lasted better through the very cold February / March months we have gotten the last few years.
The facility, the staff, the conditions elsewhere on the course are all very good. However, without any greens you really don't have a golf course, you have a well maintained an expensive driving range.
Until late summer or early fall, I would pass on this course and opt to play at one of the other courses that has Champions Bermuda greens.
HORRIBLE Greens
Mill Creek is a great layout and would be a great value except for one thing...the greens are AWFUL. After a few years of having the greens die in the summer, they put in Mini Verde grass, which is horrible. The greens are so inconsistent and spongy, it's basically like a big fringe.
There is a reason all the courses in the area that have champion bermuda are doing well, and the ones that put in mini verde are terrible. I appreciate that Mill Creek tried to go with a new grass, but enough is now known about how the hybrid bermudas perform in this area to call mini verde a failure and switch to champion. I will not go back until they get new grass on the greens.
The facility, the staff, the conditions elsewhere on the course are all very good. But it starts and ends with the greens. I'd rather play Hillandale - they have Champion Bermuda.
Great Mountain-Style Course
This was my third time playing Mill Creek and I enjoyed it as much as the other two. The course is very unique to the area; makes you feel like you're playing in the mountains. Each hole is different which makes it a fun place to play. Conditions were good and played in under four hours on a Friday afternoon. Not much to complain about here, definitely worth playing.
In great shape
Played this course on my own as a practice round for an upcoming tournament there. Early tee time. Ran into a foursome but the ranger had asked them to let me through, and a twosome did too. Fairways, greens, tees, all in good shape. Bermuda rough in great shape (unfortunately). Just a pleasure to play. Not too long (actually a bit short so nice relaxing round! Due to stupid USGA rules could not post the score!
old favorite course is a mess ... massive winter kill
This course has been one of our fave's. Haven't played it for a while.
Massive winter kill. Several greens were a mess. #11 fairway is essentially gone.
Wait a couple of months. Don't waste your money.
A real shame ... great course when in good shape.
Very good
No complaints...the course was a very nice layout and a great deal for the money.
Great course for the price
The course was in good condition even after a tournament. The greens were rolling well and the fairways were in good condition!
Well maintained course & super friendly staff
The course was well maintained. Especially the green was excellent. The staff at the pro shop was really friendly. It is worth golf course.
Everyone from the inside staff, starter and ranger were very courteous
Course was in very good shape for this time of year, greens rolled very well, excellent practice putting green, aerification had yet to occur, tee boxes could have been a bit better regarding lack of grass, have played here several times but this was my first visit in 3-4 years, GolfNow coupon was utilized - excellent deal on a Friday - slider not working properly: played in 4 1/4 hours - excellent pace: was not held up or rushed, course in better than average condition
Great time as usual
For the Saturday GolfNow rate of $28 this course was a great bargain. Even though they are renovating the clubhouse, it was really not an inconveince. I always enjoy Mill Creek!
nice course
nice layout . spacious. good grass. love to play again!
one of the best in triangle!
Nice course but was muddy in places.
Did not play as well as i had hoped and course condition was damp/muddy in places.
Great course layout. Well maintained, greens outstanding. Good pace of play, friendly staff, will play there again.
Played Mill Creek on a Monday in Mid-November. The course was busier than normal however the pace of play was good. The layout is very nice, many unique holes. The greens were in excellent condition. Will definitely play again.
Always reliable........The new greens are great!!
It has been a few years since I have played Mill Creek. I used to frequent this club and always enjoyed the layout. When I heard that the greens were lost during a harsh summer a few years ago I was disappointed. Nevertheless I was pleasantly surprised at the new greens when we returned recently. The greens were slick and the layout is as challenging as ever. I highly recommend this course.
Good variety, enjoyable, and a nice value
The new greens have grown in well. They were fast and smooth especially for an early November round. The course was in good shape and from the tips is a difficult course. Very nice practice areas. There are a number of memorable holes on the course (6,7,9, 10 (from the tips) &15 stand out). The staff is friendly and it is still a good value.
I don't think this review applies to Mill Creek in Mebane. Mountains?
