Dangerous carts, and rough locals
I played this course on a whim, as I had a Saturday morning free, and first off, this is a run down club, with a mix of carts that are borderline dangerous. The one I chose needed new breaks, as I almost ran into a few things figuring that out. The locals are not welcoming, and the course itself was in ok shape, but nothing to write home about. I ended up playing with a few members after a couple of holes who actually made my round a bit more positive. With Cleghorn Plantation right around the corner, I doubt I'll return to this one. It's definitely off the beaten path too, as my GPS couldn't even find it.
Friendly Local Course
Play here a lot. The greens are generally well kept till the heat of summer gets the bent grass in late July or August. It’s a fun layout with a few quirky holes. The fairways are usually ok. Though on the day I played the back 9 needed cut pretty bad. The layout is a little quirky and takes some playing to learn it’s nuances. But their is a pretty good mix of holes. The staff is really friendly. Ans the price is really good. Just don’t expect pristine conditions.
Never Again
I have played this course numerous times but unlikely to do it again. Our golf group arrived at the course only to find out the price quoted us by phone was not honored. When we questioned why, they just said sorry for the inconvenience. They blamed it on new ownership.
At leasr 2 fivesomes went off in front of our groups. It ended up being an over 5 hour round of golf.
The course itself was in decent shape. The greens were well kept. The best part of our day were the sandwiches at the snack bar.
Layout Interesting but Course Conditions Poor
I gave it three stars specifically for the condition of the course. The greens were in pretty good shape and a good speed but the fairways didn't have much grass. Many of the fairways were full of bare spots and weeds. One of the men in my group joked about hitting the only small patch of grass on the fairway of one hole.
Also, the forward tees were not great and some were down right awful - uneven, no grass. This really takes away from the enjoyment of the course when you can't get a flat decent lie in a tee box. Tee boxes 12 and 17 were particularly bad.
The layout of the course is nice and back nine is more "interesting" than the front because of the number of times you need to think about carrying a pond or creek. Also some holes are really long because they are all uphill. For example 16 is all up a steep hill.
The club house is unassuming from the outside but it has a nice ladies locker room and folks that ordered food said it was good. The staff was also very friendly.
If you live near by it would be a good local course at a good price but unless someone tells you the course is in great shape, it is not worth the 55 minute drive from Greenville (or Ashville).
Good local Course
Meadowbrook is a good local course. It has been very busy as of late and this causes the pace of play to be slower than most. But it was right at 4 hours Friday, so not absolutely terrible. I have been out there several times this spring and it has rarely not been busy. So just dont expect a really fast round. The greens are in excellent shape. They are really green, look good, and roll smooth. They may be a little slow but I like them. The rest of the course is hit and miss. There is some grass in the fairways and tee boxes. But there are also areas with weeds, and some bare spots. That is to be expected this time of year. Its kind of a shot makers course. There are a good mix of holes, long and short, straight and doglegs. Several holes require something other than driver off the tee, including a par 5. So its interesting to play with plenty of elevation changes, especially on the back 9. The staff is extremely friendly. They are genuinely glad to have your business. Also unique that its a par 73. With only 1 par 3 on the back 9. All in all its a good local course to go play.
Good local course.
William and his staff at Meadowbrook are always great. They treat you nice and are genuinely glad to have your business. So far the Bermuda has not had time to grow in and some of the holes on the back 9 were still really wet from the wet winter and spring we have had. Not really the fault of the course. But as such the lies were iffy. Some good. Some bare. Some wet. Some rough really high and needing cut but too wet to do so. They just need some warm dry weather to help it out. Until then I’d still play winter rules. The greens were in great shape. Very smooth and a good speed. Not too fast and not too slow. It’s a shotmakers type course. Not a bomb and chip place. It’s not overly long but it Helps to have played there a few times to know the distances on the doglegs and water hazards. The greens are generally small with a good amount of break in some of them. The prices are good for the product you get and the round usually goes pretty fast. It’s worth a play and will be even better once the weather warms some more.
Fun Course
Unfortunately I only get out to Meadowbrook about once a year. But it's a fun little Course tucked away in the boonies. William and his staff do a great job. They are genuinely glad to see you and the course is in good shape. The fairways and tees are cut and the greens are in good shape. It's a good value for the money and definitely worth a play if you live in the area.
Nice little course
Meadowbrook is a good place for a round. I dont get out there but a couple times a year, but this was the best shape I have seen it in in a couple years. The tee boxes were nice and full. Fairways were mowed, and the greens were excellent. Smooth, looked good and about the right pace. It is very important that you hit the fairway if you want to play well. The fairways are plenty wide, however, if you miss you are in trouble. In areas that are out in the open and get water the rough is very full in thick. In areas that dont get water or are under trees they are bare and rough. Either way you draw a terrible lie and its basically impossible to recover. The front 9 is shorter and much easier of the 9s. The back is longer and much tougher. I paid $31 on a Saturday afternoon and it was well worth it. Got give it a try.
Average Course but fun
First, course conditions. The tees and the greens were in great shape. However, the fairways were not. Especially on the front and a few holes on the back the fairways were very spotty. Now the approach areas around the green were much better than the fairway. But again, the tees and greens were in great shape. Now the staff is very friendly and the course is family owned. The course is very fun to play. The front is relatively short, but also tighter. It is more target golf with holes moving left to right and right to left. The back is much longer and straighter. 4 par 4s over 385 yds, 3 over 400. Also, there are many more water hazards on the back as well. All in all, its a fun course to play and you should give it a shot.
