The 500 Club

About
The 500 Club (formerly known as Fox Den Country Club and Larkin Golf Club) is a premier entertainment destination for the Lake Norman region. This relaxed club with NASCAR roots provides a laid-back experience, quick pace of play, and plenty of entertainment to make it a destination. World-ranked Head Golf Professional and Assistant Professional offer private and group lessons and clinics. While the course is on the shorter side, the elevation changes and native grass areas make it challenging and strategic. Pace of play is the focus in every round so pick your tees by average driving distance, use the drop zones if needed, and play "Ready Golf" to keep your round moving. Starters, Rangers, and the Pro Shop staff will keep you well informed on any tips that might be useful for the day.

When this course wakes up, it's going to be a BEAST!
Great layout with plenty of elevation changes. It opens up after the first few holes. The houses on the course aren't super close, but if you are easily distracted, they may bother you. Staff was friendly and attentive. Loved the clubhouse and practice green. The greens were LIGHTNING fast, but when the Bermuda comes out of domancy and fills in, this is going to be a great course and one of my regulars.
Try it
Liked the layout , greens were fast considering they are killing the greens to redo them , no food available in club house , The staff is awesome . We will return once they finish the renovations.
Excellent Play
Great play. Little slow move on back 9 Course is under construction new ownership’s making great improvements. Will be closed 2 months and to reopen with great amenities we hear. Highly recommend
Lots of work needed
Course vs value isn't there anymore compared to many years before , it's definitely not a 30, 40 or 50.00 course , front 9 is ok good shape . But back 9 is going away fast , they don't tell you the work they are doing , fairways are shaved down to nothing ...no fringe or rough , just basically hard weedy ground . Workers on every hole mowing , what I don't know. Needs alot of watering and fertilizer. Course going down hill fast , not worth the money you have to pay. . Pay of play was horrible no rangers , had 2 twosome in front that took 5.5 hrs to play. One group playing from the tips and couldn't even score from the Sr tees. Other group just so extremely slow at everything.
Trending Positively
Though still not a fan of its few "quirky" holes (6,7, and 8), overall conditioning of the course is getting more attention. The staff was very friendly, and the re-opening of some amenities and continued property improvements, under new ownership, will further improve the attravtiveness of this venue.
Course under construction
I heard course is under new management and construction. I wasn’t told that when I booked reservations. Were a lot of workers on course while trying to play. One hole there were so many workers we skipped it in fear of hitting someone. The back 9 was like a swamp.
Have played here before and conditions were good. So hopefully the new course will be even better.
Back 9 crazy
Unless you have played the back 9 at Larkin many times, it is trick and unfair. There are many streams that cross the fairway and because of no experience, blind shots, and hills, you have no idea of what club to hit. You can be a 12 hdcp, hit every drive perfect, and shoot 48 easily.
Maybe give/sell golfers a sheet on what is going on on the back side and suggested clubs to hit and distances. We do enjoy the front side and it is good.
Not Impressed
Tried this course for the first time and will not go back. Not good value for the price. One side is shoe-horned into a neighborhood, and the other side is actually a nice ride through rolling hills. The ammenities are non-existent, and the course just wasn't in that good of shape. Much better value for the money at other public courses.

You must be confused… your description doesn’t fit this statesville course.
Farther,son and grandson outting
Course was in good shape and the greens were very quick. The staff was very helpful and friendly
Great things are happening at Larkin
Although there’s construction going on the course and all of the sand traps, essentially are out of play once they’re finished this will be a really nice golf course for the intermediate to advanced golfer. We met with the supervisor and it turns out his daughter was working the cart service, which was excellent for beverages out on the course, which is hard to find nowadays. We would recommend this course to anybody except somebody who really wants to work on their bunker gear, but they should be done I think by mid summer or after summer.
Very Solid Golf Course
Have played Larkin a handful of times now. Roughly 40ish minutes from Uptown, course has always been in good shape, and price point good for the Charlotte area. This round in particular was incredibly slow as we were playing behind a group of new golfers that 1) weren’t very skilled & 2) did not know course/golf etiquette (2 holes behind, basically parking on the green on Par 3 12th.) All good though nothing they could help. Not the most beginner friendly course as there are several blind shots, forced carries, and side hill lies. Overall, highly recommend this course for the price and the condition. They are also under new ownership that are putting a good amount of money into renovations.
One of my favorite courses and the work they’re doing on it is incredible. They put new sand traps on the backside in about a week. I heard there’s new owners and they’re really putting a lot of money into the course in the clubhouse. I hope the price doesn’t go up to much but I’m sure it will be worth whatever it goes up. Great course close to my house love it. Great job by the staff and the superintendent.
Shaved turf
Greens good , most tee boxes are ok except on back 9. They are working on bunkers yet paying no attention to the turf around the greens or fairways ...this used to definitely be a 4 star course ....now needs alot of work. Don't understand why shave the grass down to almost nothing . Especially around the greens . Heard they will be closing for 3 months for changing the greens. Which are the best feature. Hope this course improves better in time with new ownership ...staff is great just don't understand the course management Especially of the turf
Course needs a lot of work
They are doing a lot of work to improve the course. Right now mostly sand traps and planting trees and bushes which will help.
My biggest complaint is the greens. They do not hold a shot. I am a 5 handicap who has been a scratch golfer and can spin the ball well. The ball marks on the greens were all very strange. They were all just round depressions. On good greens the front of the ball mark is shallow and gets deeper toward the back with almost a flat vertical ledge at the back. These greens do not absorb any of the impact but some how remove a lot of the spin.so well hit shots roll out much too far.
We caught up to a foursome on the 11th hole. They would sit in their cart next to every green much too long after finishing a hole. Rude and frustrating
We'd love to have you back! The course has been renovated and reopened for over a year and is pretty pristine! We also now have a full service sports bar, Turn, and tons of entertainment. Come to play and then stay a while!
