Jones at Sea Trail Golf Resort and Convention Center

About
The Rees Jones course at Sea Trail Plantation is one of three courses on the property, which covers 2,000 acres of creeks and wooded lots.
It's in Sunset Beach, N.C., once named the top coastal destination in the U.S. by Money magazine, and in 2003, Golf Week named Sea Trail in America's best residential courses of distinction.
All three courses, by Dan Maples, Rees Jones and Willard Byrd got 4-star ratings from Golf Digest.
The Jones course opened in 1990 and has wide, rolling fairways and mounds and many of the elevated greens are surrounded by water. Water comes into play on 11 of the 18 holes, but those aren't the only hazards. You'll also have to deal with pot and large expanse bunkers. The course stretches to 6,761 from the tips and has a moderately difficult slope rating of 135 from the back tees. The Jones course has four sets of tees, down to 4,912 from the most forward tees.

Sea Trail # 5 Photo submitted by Duane7133 on 09/11/2019
Great layout, but course was very wet due to major storm the day before (not their fault), but greens were not in good shape due to Winter…greens need another month to grow-in, but Fairways were in good shape for early Spring golf. A definite course to play starting April.
Don’t think you’re wrong playing this course
From the time I pulled in till the time we left, every question was answered played the course in a little less than four hours. Everybody was friendly. The staff and other patrons were amazing. We’ll play it again. Next time I come down overall I’ll give it five star.
Enjoyable Golf Round
Was put with a Very Nice couple who were member for the 20 plus years, we hope to play with them again before leaving for home.
Average
First time playing - got a good rate plus an additional Golf Pass reduction.
When we checked in at their newly renovated club house, we were impressed and assumed the course would match the calibre of the club house. Unfortunately not.
The Sea Trail Jones Course was in rough condition, particularly the greens which were patchy best. The layout was somewhat unimaginative and snaked its way around the massive array of houses. Fairways were over seeded (expected for fall) but unfortunately very wet as rain the night before limited play to cart path only (understandable). The baroness of the course allowed wind to searingly face head on no matter the direction of the tee.
Long story short, the course needs attention to align with the prowess of the club house. There are plenty of courses surrounding it worth playing so management should pay heed.
Not up to PAR
This was a great course at one time.
Not sure what going on at the Jones course.
Golf near the coast
The staff are exceptional. Friendly and super helpful. From loading your clubs to giving directions for the first timers. The course is well laid out and fair. Long par fours but reachable. Bunkers are well located and in good shape. Fairways a tee boxes good but the green are a bit rough on some holes. 3 1/2 hours way great
Greens in disrepair
Have the greens had serious damage. Too hard. Won’t hold a high wedge. If I didn’t have a discount from golf now, I would’ve asked for a refund!
K&W
The cafeteria has a tournament out there every morning +65yrs and over = 5-6hr gameplay. Also they have ALIGATORS on the course! Yeah a 5 foot gator on hole 10 the Jones course right by the green. I couldn’t even putt he was 25 feet away!!!!!
