One of best values in Ohio
Absolute must play. Course is tough the first time you play it, but after you learn your way around it, there is not a more fun course to play. Greens and fairways are perfect. GPS and ball and club washers on every cart. Also has a beautiful clubhouse with a great restaurant, Black Dog Tavern, for after your round.
Beautiful course, but...
I'd like to give the course a much better overall score. It's a great piece of land - just beautiful. Then, they ruined it with absolutely ridiculous design and greens. Overall, if you're not a low single-digit handicapper, you're likely to really struggle mightily on this course. I'm a 6 BTW, and there are certain holes where it's almost impossible to find your ball of the tee. Then, once you reach the green....well, good luck. Whoever designed the greens should be imprisoned. The greens are unfair and just not fun. If you want to struggle and maybe snap your putter, this is the course for you! That said, the clubhouse is nice, the staff was good, and the views on the course are outstanding.
Absolute Must Play
Best course I have played all season. Greens and fairways were in perfect shape. Unbelievable views and scenery. Staff was very friendly and the food afterwards was very good. They also have a very good beer selection for a golf course.
Excellent course and an outstanding value
I've played Deer Ridge a number of times over the past 5 years and it has always been in great shape. The pace of play is very good, normally less than 4 hours. Everyone I've dealt with at Deer Ridge has been first rate.
3 putt paradise
This is a beautiful course and it was a superb day! I probably will never play here again. I am above average shoot in low to mid 80's consistently but these greens are way to severe (sloping) for the average golfer. If they softened the slope of the greens or even let them grow to slow them down it would be a great course! Above the hole, below the hole, it doesn't matter you WILL have 3 putts and quite possibly more!! On more than 1 hole I had 2 foot putts that broke 18 inches and more. If you don't mind 3 putting several greens in a round then this course is for you.
Great Course
Course was in fantastic shape. Price was spot on for this course.
Tees: All in great shape very well maintained
Fairways: Great shape. Had some clippings on them from the morning mow on the back 9 but other than that they were great
Greens: Fantastic Shape. Not fast, not slow. Ball marks were minimal.
This is my 3rd time down there an I have enjoyed it everytime
Starter is rude and not customer friendly.
Beautiful course. Beautiful clubhouse. The person behind the counter obviously did not want to be there. Got to the 1st tee and the starter was the rudest, most unprofessional person I have ever seen. He told the people in front of us they couldn't play because they were beginners. Then he gave us crap because we didn't want to play with other people. Said he has the right to assign anyone he wants to play with anyone else. Will never play there again as long as they employ unprofessional people like him.
Nice course between Cleveland and Columbus
Drove up from Columbus to meet some friends from Cleveland. Have played here about once a year for the last several years. Course was in very good condition. Still struggle on the last 3 holes on the front. Restaurant was very good also
You need to play here
This was my first trip to this course. The staff was very helpful and courteous. The scenery was fantastic. The course: well maintained and in very good condition. Challenging but fair. Greens rolled true and fast. Bunkers were properly filled with fluffy sand, Tee boxes had just been aerated. Highly recommend.
Worth the drive!!
First time playing Deer Ridge. Went with a friend who has played this many times, he was spot on. Excellent conditions, front 9 very hilly( forget about walking unless you are training to be a Navy Seal!!) Back 9 a little flatter. Pay attention to surrounding hills around greens which effect how ball breaks. Big greens that play small. You will play better the 2nd. time around. Upscale clubhouse. 1.5 hr. drive from Cleveland. Worth the trip. Go play Deer Ridge.
Really Nice Course!
I was traveling from Northeast PA to Cincinnati and needed somewhere to play along the way. After a little research I stumbled upon Deer Ridge (located right off I-71) which turned out to be a great option!
The front 9 imo has a little more character/difficulty as it meanders through the woods. The first hole is about as tough an opening hole you'll find anywhere. There's 2 driveable par 4's, 2 and 9, that I thought were a nice change of pace. The par 5s were both enjoyable/practical.
The back 9 has a little of a back and forth feel but is never the less still really nice. The first 3 holes on the back 9, par 4, par 3 and par 5 are excellent. I really liked the par 5 12th.
For $32 on a Friday afternoon I couldn't have done any better. I've played quite a it of public golf in Ohio and I'd put Deer Ridge in the same realm as the Virtues Club and the Quarry Club. The carts were in great shape, the staff was nice and the restaurant was absolutely packed!! This place is the real deal.....
Fall golf
Awesome time at Deer Ridge ! Challenging layout will keep you thinking here . A little tough reading greens , never mind weather focus on the beauty . Will enjoy this one everytime !!! Great value and can't wait to get back . Friendly staff and great condition . Kudos .
Rotten weather on a great course
Misty, rainy day at Deer Ridge. This is one of the best courses we play. Back 9 a little repetitive, but that is my only complaint. There also have the best bratwurst on their grilll
A great round, nearly ruined by slow play
Course is excellent, with very challenging greens. Pace of play terrible for We'd. Afternoon. Four groups had the entire course backed up. Took nearly 3 hours to play the front. Told the shop about it, and was told "we have a lot people here today." Not true. We went back and played the front a second time in 90 minutes. We would have been here nearly 6 hours otherwise.
This is a great course, don't ruin it by allowing slow play.
Challenging
I was referred to this course from a couple buddies that had played here multiple times in the past. I was very surprised at how challenging it was from the start. It rained early in the morning, but was dry the whole afternoon. The course started slow and wet, but once it heated up the greens were super quick. Clubhouse was nice and those there were friendly. Cart didn't have a scorecard or pencil on it coming from the barn. Most tees weren't flat and the ball was always above or below my feet. Greens were the toughest part of the course. No complaints here, but I misread putts all afternoon to break the opposite way which is not normal for my game. I paid $28 to ride as a single, and played in about 3.5 hours after being held up by multiple foursomes in the final 4-5 holes. Overall, really fun, challenging course and would play again in the future. Shot 45-39 for an 84 from the blue tees.
Bad course management
Played today and the course had a outing scheduled before my tee time. They NEVER came out to check the pace of play, and allowed the outing to back the entire course up...9 holes holes took over 3hrs, and the course seemed to worry about the wedding going on instead of the golfers on the course...was only willing to give a 9 hole rain check, or play the front 9 again ..even after we drove over a hr to play the course. Instead of sending someone out to regulate the pace of play....Who's going to drive over a hr to play 9 holes...smh
Love the course, but wont waste the time to drive back over a hr to play again after today, was a waste of money and time...
Lots of hills. Beautiful courses.
Challenging course with lots of hills. Greens have a lot of break. I enjoyed I as you really have think your way around the course . Actually shot my best round of 77 there. Got a hot deal price of $22 for 18 holes with GPS equipped cart..
A best kept secret!
This course has everything, in terms of challenge and quality, for all handicaps.
The quality of the course, the carts and equipment, and the restaurant are first rate.
I would recommend this course to all.
Blind shots
First time here. Lots of blind shots. Had a great time. Fast greens.
