Auglaize Golf Club

About
Located just south of Defiance, Auglaize Golf Club is situated along the river that it gets its name from. The river wraps around the entire front nine but there is plenty of water throughout the golf course, it comes into play on a total of 13 holes. Water isn't the only challenge, though. There are more than 30 bunkers strategically placed throughout. Still, the most difficult element of the course is the varied shapes and contours of the greens, which can make them tough to hit. Most of the holes on the front nine are framed by mature trees, but the back nine opens up a bit more. The second half of the golf course is also more forgiving. Auglaize Golf Club requires thoughtful strategy and creative shot making but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Terrible
I’ve at played Auglaize Country Club for 40 years, the shape the course is in is an embarrassment, I’ve ever played a course in worse shape. This course has turned into a cattle pasture it’s not even worth playing. It sad that Auglaize was the standard in its day. The owners should be embarrassed. It’s not worth 1 Star
Gave up on Irrigation?
This course was fine 3 weeks ago, but it's clear they gave up on watering the fairways. It's hard to find any grass. The tee boxes are pretty horrible, too. The back nine is especially horrendous.
Back 9 damaged
Was told a single couldn’t play by themselves and that I would be paired which was fine. But I still waited over 10 minutes after my tee time to tee off. The front 9 was in good shape besides a few spots that seemed to be under repair. However the back 9 was no where close. The fairways looked like they hadn’t been watered in weeks with dead spot everywhere and the greens also had dead spots all throughout.
Greens are in excellent condition but a little slow.
Nice Course, Questionable Employees
We went on a holiday so the pace of play was understandably slow. Wasn't too happy to be a group of 2 and a slow moving foursome ahead of us not allowing us to play through on the back 9. Played with a group of 4 on the front and was charged an extra cart fee because we needed one extra seat. Most courses allow each golfer their own golf cart, but not here for some reason! Strict rules on cart usage, but had a group of 5 slowing down the pace of play just makes no sense! You would think allowing a group an extra cart to keep the pace moving on a packed holiday would be welcome especially when they had more than enough carts for all the tee times!
Not a good time
I reserved a teatime using this app for $42. When I showed up to the course for my teatime was told I had to pay $72 due to green fees. What’s the point of having an online reservation and pricing if the place is not going to honor it? Will not be going back to this place.
No Kitchen or food for sale
Staff and course were good but there was nothing to eat. I have been to this course several times and they never have a kitchen open.
Solid not spectacular
The course itself is quite flat overall with a good length for the majority of holes but not a lot of imagination. The fairways are mowed quite high and tend to be soft as well. No roll to speak of and easy to push your ball if you arent careful. The greens are soft and medium fast and small to mid sized. Overall a nice course that is not filled with gimmicks or weird holes. Enjoyable round.
