Nice challenge
This is one course where you will use all your clubs. Good mix of tight tree lined and open holes. Some very short Par 4's and long Par 3's to make up for it. Greens were just aerated but other than that course was in great shape. Staff very friendly.

In good shape, plenty of opportunities to post some scores, overall fun place to play.
Friday afternoon round
Shark River has made improvements in the course. The tee box and greens looking good and cant wait to get back next week.. Great course to walk.
Long time...
...since the last time I played here. It is much improved. Conditions were good through even though it was heavy rain the night before. It is also longer, 300+ yard since the last time I played here. 5 Par 4's over 400.
18th hole, par 5 from the white tees 578 yds. Come on!!!
Overpriced without County Card
Had a nice outing with friends despite costing $83 on the weekend because I live out of state. Also was not thrilled with having to pay a reservation fee. Shouldn't reservations be encouraged? This is a bogus fee in my opinion. Had several other minor issues, the cart ran of of juice around hole 14, which required us to push it up any future hills. Also had a threesome walking in front of us on 4th of July weekend, which should not be allowed. This slowed pace of play quite a bit. Would probably be a better value during the week.
Playable even after rain...
Of the 8 courses in the Monmouth County Park System, Shark River has the friendliest staff and is the most welcoming to women. Also good for women: Two port-a-johns out on the course in addition to pro-shop restrooms. The course is somewhat challenging but playable. Finally, after (or during!) heavy rain, never soggy and rarely cart-path-only.
Great public course.
This course is great for Monmouth county residents with a county card, it is cheap and very walkable. If u are not a county resident I would!d segust a weekday round in the afternoon when prices are the lowest. The greens are always in good condition when I have played the are fair and firm.

I enjoy the shade and pace of play at this golf coure. it is also very convenient to my home.

The cart path does not go all the way around the course so it is hard for it to be "CART PATH ONLY". Secondly I was there this week and the staff is far from friendly. The 3:50 pm tee time showed up at 3:55pm to the course. The started allowed them to go out at 4pm which was my groups time. When asking the starter how that is allowed he said they are on time. I further challenged the starter for his lack of ability to perform his job and he threatened to take my ticket away. I told him that he was an embarrassment and they wonder why people do not like these county workers. Far from the service that was written in this review.
