Walkable Fun Muni South Of Tulsa
VIsiting Tulsa for PGA Championship Week and found this course to be very conveniently located to get to Southern Hills to watch practice round after we played our round at South Lakes.
Very welcoming and helpful staff in pro shop. Rented a push cart to walk - they have plenty available, some are not in great shape but found one that was functional. Easily walkable and flat.
Played with a local Rick P. who lives across the street and while the course layout is pretty straightforward, the local guy was super insightful on any and all nuances of the course and shots. Fairly easy layout with the major challenges being holes 7 - 9 - even good tee shots you can be blocked out with overhanging trees and the like. Back 9 I think plays a tad easier than the front.
Being the Monday of PGA Championship Week and with the regional airport adjacent to the course, it was fun to watch a bunch of NetJets type aircraft continue to approach over the course and try to guess which ones were golfers and not. The local guy said the amount of air traffic that week was like triple the usual.
I did not mind the air traffic but for some the noise and distraction might be over the top.
Finished the round in under 3.5 hours and then only 5 minutes drive to Mabee Center where parking for the general public for the PGA. Very grateful to be paired up with Rick P., a very gregarious ambassador for this course. If I visit a future PGA at Southern Hills I will definitely play South Lakes again.
Very nice corse
This corse has its changeless, it also is very well maintained
Course in good shape
Bent grass greens are nice and roll true although they are not fast. This is a nice municipal. Play the back tees if you shoot in the 80's or lower and hit the ball a decent length. Bermuda fairways are in good shape. This course is great for walkers as it is flat. Lots of airplanes flying overhead are entertaining but noisy sometimes.
Enjoyable Course
This course is relatively easy. It's flat and easy to walk. It does have some bunkers, out of bounds and water you can hit with errant shots. The greens do not break a lot but they are tiered so it helps to hit the correct tier on your approach shot. Friendly staff. Enjoyable course.
