Average Experience
Upon check in, I was told there was no way we could tee off at the tee time I schedule through golf now and the staff had trouble finding the booking. Apparently they shouldn’t have had booking sold on golf now per the staff member. Luckily we went early and were allowed to tee off, but had we been right on time, they wouldn’t have let us tee off.
Champion lakes is a great course. For being public it’s always in really good shape, tee boxes and greens alike, and it’s a solid layout with good challenge from the tips. Unfortunately my round this morning was not like previous ones I’ve played here. I tee’d off at 8:15, and they were still working on the course, which was fine, but almost every sprinkler head was on with multiple groups on the course. I’m talking spinning sprinklers spraying all the tee boxes and right down the middle of the fairway. I had to get soaked to get a ball right in the middle of the fairway, and had to skip multiple holes and tee off from the reds to avoid the sprinklers. If I had paid full price I would have demanded a refund. No reason for the sprinklers when people are playing, especially when there’s rain in the forecast
Nice course. Cool layout and great Mountain View’s.
Frustrated with the course. We arrived for a 9:45 tee time. The course decided to push our tee time without telling us ahead of time. Letting an outing out ahead us. Four groups and 45 minutes late before we got to tee off. Would have left if we hadn’t already paid.
Luckily we got a discounted rate with golf now. I would have been furious have this happen paying full price.
Was a fun round, but probably will not go out of my way to play here in the future. Great courses down the road.
It’s all about the challenge
Fast greens with tricky pin placements. Beautiful fairways with strategically placed traps. Just enough water to make it interesting. And spectacular vistas. Worth every penny.
nice day /nice course
Had a good experience at Champion Lakes - course was in good shape... really windy so the leaves were coming down early and actually lost a golf ball on the fairway - couldn't find... we did see them blowing off the fairways later in the day. This will be a do over for us
Gem of a course
Camping a few miles away we found this course to be both challenging and forgiving. It is nestled in the Pennsylvania mountains and designed and owned by a former athlete. Highly recommend a visit. Very affordable too.
Great staff. Good deal, and very good conditions, better than expected. Pace of play was very slow at certain points, but the views were nice and I enjoyed the course. I will be back!
Disappointed
One of my all time favorite courses. The condition was the worst I have ever seen it. Sand traps were not raked after 3-4 days of no rain? Hard as a rock to hit out of some of them. Tee boxes on back nine all chewed up. I booked tee time through golfnow and got there to be told there was an outing and we had to start on the back. No big deal, except greens on the back had not been cut and were soaking wet. Balls had rooster tails as they skidded to a stop when putted. Got to the front and the greens rolled beautifully. I love this course and usually can't wait to play there. First time I left disappointed. Need to bring back some TLC to this classic.
Good Challenge
From the tips, this course gives you a run for your money. Greens are in great shape with plenty of movement. Many holes are tree lined and leave little room for errant tee shots. Fairways in very good shape. This is worth the drive into the country.
Beautiful Day, beautiful course
Champion Lakes is a challenging layout on a well-maintained course. It is a good test for any golfer. The only thing that kept me from rating the course conditions as a 5 was the condition of the sand traps. While some were fine, too many had been ravaged by heavy rains and were nearly unplayable. Despite that it was a great day and an enjoyable round.
Classic
You want a Challenge? You want Great Conditions? Nowhere is it better than Champion Lakes ! Tough, Fair and Classic old style course! I have no idea how we played there 35 40 years ago. Today the Greens are Super fast and the slopes are tough unless under the hole. To play well you better be at your best or just drink beer and take in the Great View! Buckle up!
Beautiful Course and Outstanding Service
We chose Champion Lakes for our annual Father's Day round this year and if it wasn't for the high winds and occasional light rain, it would have been perfect.
Clubhouse staff was outstanding. Very friendly, threw in a few extra balls in our range bag to get us started, and we were treated like first class members from the start.
The course is a great layout, but if you're a beginner it's not going to be easy on you. A few pretty long par 4's combined with some tight drives due to a lot of mature trees and a handful of treacherous greens could make your day a nightmare.
If you're above the hole on some of the greens you'll have almost no chance of stopping the ball on the way down. On one occasion my brother putted a ball uphill that didn't reach the cup, and it rolled back down to his feet! That's golf, but probably a little much for the weekenders.
Overall it's a great place to play but check the weather first, especially for wind. The Laurel Highlands can be tricky weather-wise, but the views are spectacular.
Challenging and scenic
The course was beautiful and in good shape. Fairways are fairly narrow. Long yardage. Some issues with drainage and wet areas. Liked the course and thought it was a great value.
Golf Now
Thanks to the great people at Champion Lakes, Golf Now never notified them that Ii booked the 8:15 time, but they accommodated us with no problems at all. CHAMPION LAKES ROCK NICEST PUBLIC COURSE IN THE STATE
Better in the afternoon
Absolutely loved the course but we decided to off at 7:50 and they were watering the course after it rained and it was super soggy. Definitely a beautiful course and worth the money just prefer to play after the suns been out for a bit. Definitely will come back
