South at Philmont Country Club

Beautiful Course, Great Conditions, & Moderately Difficult.

This was great fun with my son and two fellows that joined us. The course is very hilly and a real challenge for an elderly golfer with diminishing strength like myself. I played from the closest tees 5,400 yds and it felt like 50 yards longer. Staff was most gracious in welcoming us.

The clubhouse is brand new. The last time I played in 2012, I thought it was about to fall down of its own accord. They sold off the South Course for development and have completely rebuild the club house and amenities. All looking great. Grill/bar closed on Tuesday, but we enjoyed a nice salad bar before teeing off. at 1;06.

The course is beautiful, many picturesque holes (all with elevation changes. The 18th is a problem (huge dog leg right) which passes 40 yards in front of the driving range. Players on the range must pause while players on the 18th pass is front. Let's hope that is not permanent, but will be changes when all the landscaping is complete.

In conclusion. I enjoyed the voyage and don't worry about scoring (I roll most of mine over) and Philmont was a wonderful day.

Enjoyed my round, worked out perfectly with weather as storm was rolling on in as I just finished. A nice mix of holes, not so much water hazards

Played this course with a couple buddies. First time playing it and thought it was a great course. Pretty open fairways and some challenging holes which I loved. The part I didn’t like is that we felt like complete outsiders. Some of the members were very rude to us and pretty much looked down on us because we weren’t actually members there. Didn’t get a cart till 5 minutes before we teed off even though others after us already had a cart. One of the members yelled at us on the course my buddy took his hat off for a minute (not joking).

Wet and rainy when I played, but course was in solid shape. Greens ran true and fairway/rough was consistent. Many ups/downs with elevation changes and an interesting layout. Not perfect, but totally fair.

Tons of construction going on throughout the property (as of 08/24/23) so the road in was a little shaky, but obviously temporary. Would recommend a trip, especially if you can play for less than $50 like I did. Great deal.

Course in great condition nice layout a lot of up and down greens very good condition the only thing wrong were the bunkers very little sand hard to get out and the rough was heavy stay out of the Hazzards

It's been a few years since I ventured to Philmont and enjoyed it this past holiday weekend. It's back. The greens rolled true, the fairways were plush and they must have redone all the tees as they were better than I can remember. The South course is gone, but the North was always the real treat of coming to Philmont. The back nine just doesn't have a bad hole.

First time playing and what a gem of a course. I played with a member and said the new management team is excellent, and really cares. The playing conditions were perfect.

Got to play with a great member via GolfNow. He was a bit upset sharing his course, but after a few minutes of sharing we were like best buddies. I really enjoyed the company (John) and the course was amazing!

Not gonna bother elaborating but trust me when I tell you this staff is racist and this was the worst experience I’ve ever had on a course bar none

The layout is fantastic. The course conditions and staff are entirely a different matter. The fairways and greens have crab grass growing in them. The staff are not helpful and usually nowhere to be found.

This was my first time playing PCC. I'm a 1/2 time per week player and a 15 handicap. Overall it's a really nice track with some great holes both visually and in play. It seems like they have had some issues with their greens which they admittedly stated and shared they were working to repair as soon as possible. I could see how great the course would be with healthy greens. Overall it's a nice track and I would enjoy playing it again

The greens were extremely slow and needed work. however, Philmont always present a tough challenge and warrants the 133 slope. The roughs were up and all fairways roll to the rough so expect a tough round..esp in the wind.
Neat concept for getting the balls out of the cup.
