A Hidden Gem
I haven't played Quail Valley in almost two years, so made the trek up (about 1 hr 10 mins). First of all, they just completed a couple of major renovations: 1) the clubhouse has a huge covered deck across the back with plenty of outdoor seating, and the cart barn underneath, and 2) the wood bridge over to the par 3 island green (#13) has been replaced with a beautiful brick and concrete bridge. For the course, it was in excellent condition! The fairways were plush and green--filled in with absolutely no dirt spots or flaws-- and most bunkers had nice, fluffy sand. The greens had been aerated two weeks ago, and they continued the discount ($10 off). They were a little sandy, but certainly playable. The rough was pretty "juicy" and was brutal if you found some thick stuff. Advice--stay in the short grass. We walked and played in about 4 hrs 15 mins, but this course stretches out (you have to cross the public road four times). It's an easy walk--no hills or inclines--but is spread out a bit. I highly recommend Quail Valley.
Chilly Sunday
Course in Pretty good shape, greens very fast. Leaves not too bad considering late October round. Will return..
Excellent Course Conditions
First time playing this year, and I was pleasantly surprised. A lot of the other PA/MD courses are trying to recover from the damage caused by too much rain and too hot temps. Quail Valley looks pretty much unaffected by these conditions...the fairways were excellent and so were the greens! Even the bunkers were fluffy and thick sand. I only saw a couple of burned out spots on the sides of the fairways which was nothing really. Congrats to the Super on keeping this course in such great shape. The only reason I gave it a 4 stars vs a 5 is because of some other players (which is not the course's responsibility). We ran into a couple of groups of really rude players--I believe they were "regulars" and use to playing golf without consideration or respect for other players. It's unfortunate because I've run into this at Quail Valley on other trips and it leaves a negative impression of the course and its patrons. I appreciate that the staff put us out early on #10 and they were friendly and welcoming; but some of the players were not. Yes, we were walkers, but were not slow. We played in 4 hrs and 15 mins (because we had to wait on the last four holes for the group in front of us), but some of these other players seemed to be used to playing in 3 hours! Quail Valley is a great course with mostly wide fairways, fast greens, excellent bunkers, and easy to walk, so it's definitely worth the drive (1 hr 15 mins).. I can only say just expect the regulars might not be as welcoming as the staff.
Great course
One of the best maintained courses I’ve ever played on. Top quality course for a low price.
Hidden Gem Between Frederick & Gettysburg
Best greens I have putted on all year & that includes some private courses!! Not overly difficult. You can gamble on some tight par 4s with the driver - hit it straight & you have a flip wedge, miss it right or left and you have tree trouble. If this course was a half hour away from Leesburg, VA I would definitely join. Loved it so much I'm returning tomorrow even if it's an hour 15 minute drive from Leesburg.
Best Public Course Greens in DMV Area
Had always wanted to play this course the last 10 years. Boy have I missed out. These greens are true & fast - best public greens in the area. Area has not been affected by the drought. Fairways were lush. In Northern VA this course would be $60 during the week. I will be back!
First Trip This Year
I have always liked Quail Valley. It's relatively easy to get on to play...I walked on as a single this morning. I played the back first and it only took 1.5 hrs. However, ran into the back of a big group of older gentlemen who took carts up to the green, on the tee boxes, and in areas I'm not sure they should have been on. But, I still finished in a little over 4 hrs. The course is in decent shape, although it is showing some burnt out/brown spots in the fairways. The rough, though, is pretty lush. With the recent heat wave, I believe the fairways are holding up pretty well. The bunkers had nice sand. And, what surprised me the most was the condition of the greens--they were excellent, and pretty fast. They didn't look like they were going to be that fast, but they were running quick. Kudos to the Super to hold these greens in this kind of shape after all the heat. This course is very playable with only two really tough holes, which are #5 and #8. Nice staff, always helpful, welcoming, and willing to accommodate.
Hidden gem
We hadn’t played Quail Valley in a couple of years and was pleasantly surprised by its current state — My wife & I played on Saturday @ 3:00PM for $30.00 p/p — pace of play: less than 4 hours — course conditions: Excellent! I was surprised there were no recent reviews on Golfadvisor — We would recommend!
fun course with a few surprise to make things interesting
we played the morning after severe storms went thru dropping almost 3" of rain and the course was in great shape the next morning. we were restricted to the cart paths, the tee boxes, fairway and greens had drained well. i would recommend this course.
Best all around course in the area
There's not too much that this course can do better. The course is always in immaculate shape. The greens are consistently fast and true. The layout is fun and challenging, with a few birdie holes and holes that making a bogey feels like a par. They are not on Golfnow, but usually have internet coupons you can print out and use to get a great deal. Beer prices are cheap and staff is friendly.
It's in Great Shape for Late Summer
Course is in really nice shape for Late Summer! Best deal and layout around! Just wish pace of play was picked up a little more. Seems like every time I play here I'm waiting.
Best course for the dollar
Best Greens in the area. Greens run fast and smooth and are in great shape. This course is the best course for the value. would have to play $100 + courses to get same conditions. Be prepared for some wind as it is always 10mph faster then other local conditions
Great pic, shared on Twitter!
