The Neuse Golf Club

About
Neuse Golf Club was ranked as one of the best public golf courses in North Carolina, second only to Pinehurst. The layout winds along the Neuse River across rolling hills that are dotted with rocky outcroppings. Towering, mature pines accent the landscape as well, especially along the fairways. Each hole provides a dramatically different challenge and unique scenery. Views of the winding river can be enjoyed on almost every hole. A variety of bunkers and doglegs are strategically placed throughout the golf course, demanding both accuracy and thoughtful strategy. The design closely follows the natural contours of the hilly terrain. Dramatic elevation changes guarantee that flat lies will be hard to find. The golf course is no easy feat but the beautiful scenery and interesting hole designs will appeal to any player.

Great Condition/Brutal Pace
First time at Neuse this year....it is in excellent condition for mid-April. Could maybe use a little more sand (without stones) in some of the bunkers. A 5 hour round on a Thurs. afternoon is ridiculous.....never saw a ranger. IMO there were several groups ahead of us who were playing the wrong tees and/or just didn't have the skill to play this course.....it's not easy from the wrong tees!
First time playing
The course plays well and is enjoyable and challenging. Lots of steep hills going from the greens to the cart path. Greens are maintained well and have considerable break so some are hard to read. Enjoyed playing Neuse CC.
Solid Course
The Neuse has improved every year over the last 5 years. The food, pro shop, and restaurant are very good. The course is in good condition and greens are fast. One of the better courses for the money in the triangle area. Fun layout as well and the practice facilities are well kept.
Quiet Weekday Afternoon
Pace of play was excellent. We also went for the last 18 in the daylight so everyone was moving very quickly to finish. Grass was great all-around. Bar was open, hot food available, pro shop open and fully stocked. The course is VERY hilly, so if you're like me and can't hit the green from your tee shot, then expect to be doing some roaming by foot to navigate the hills. However, it's a beautiful course. Highly recommend for people that are better than me (I regularly shoot 100-120).
Excellent Course
I love playing the Neuse. I had an excellent score and the pace of play was excellent. The course is challenging but playable and very scenic. The one change that I wish the course planners hadn’t made was the red tees. The red tees use to be 5280 something in length for ladies. The silver/hybrids are confusing and not as fun to play. I can play the silver but the previous red tees length, challenge, and playability were more ideal. Overall, I do love playing this course.
The Neuse
Have not played the course in several years. Layout and topography of the course presents players a challenge. Bunkers are placed where shots slightly off will be found. Greens were in good shape and require attention to be paid to accurately read. Amenities and facilities are well maintained. Pace of place was unfortunately bad. After teeing off we had waits on every hole after and ended up with almost a 5 hour round as a result. Given our late afternoon tee time it become a bit of a challenge to finish before sunset.
Amazing improvements
Haven't playrd The Neuse in a couple of years, but what a dramatic improvement. Fairways were in really good shape and rough was cut to playable levels and thick. The star of the show were the greens - firm and fast and in perfect condition. Traps in good shape and cultivated well. Our foursome played in 3 hours and 45 minutes, and had a very enjoyable round.. Can't say enough about how impressed I was by the improvement - it's now a really good place to play!!
Trouble with golf now reservations
Didn't actually get to play. This is the THIRD time a golf now reservation has gotten screwed up.
First time: made reservation, golf course doesn't have in their system. GN has the reservation, has to spend 15 minutes on the phone to get it square, got to play and crisis averted.
Second: booked round. Notified friend. Get kicked back a day or 2 later after booking because of a tournament. GN auto refunded
Third: booked a week in advance. Show up to course and this time they actually have a tournament (I asked about a couple of weeks ago and she had no idea what I was talking about) DID NOT get to play. So I booked a week in advance and an hour before my tee time on a Saturday in November with 73 degree weather, I'm told sorry, no dice.
.
I have NEVER had one issue with a golf now reservation. I've had 3 and my only 3 issues with this golf course. Obviously whomever coordinates with GN does not do that part of the job well. 2 of these are in the last month with me. I wonder how many other issues they have?
