West/South at Etowah Valley Country Club & Golf Lodge

About
Etowah Valley Golf & Country Club is tucked away amidst the Blue Ridge Mountains. Not only can golfers enjoy three different 18-hole combinations provided by the 27-hole layout, but also stunning mountain views on nearly every hole. The golf course is divided into three nines: the North, South, and West. They each have a unique character but you'll find that water plays a major role on all three. The West/South Course combines the two longest nines. A stream cuts across both nines and there are also several ponds that come into play. The gently rolling terrain causes some tricky uneven lies and be prepared for the occasional blind shot. Etowah Valley is one of western North Carolina's most popular courses, it has even been ranked in Golf Digest's top 50 golf destinations in the world.

Always good
Etowah is a solid course, challenging but fair. Course in good shape, cart paths must have been destroyed by Hurricane Helene as they are mostly gravel now. Overall a good place to play, considering we lost a few from storm.
Two different nines
The course has 3 nines. One nine was closed for maintenance. The front nine (the west course I think) was a disaster. Fairways and tees were dead and full of weeds. The greens had large sections where sod that had been removed (probably for the maintenance on the third nine). Bunkers had no sand but lots of rocks and weeds. It was almost unplayable. The back nine (the south nine I think) was reasonable. The greens were lush and green but very very slow. The tees and bunkers were great. The fairways were still dormant but fine. I would not play there again based on the conditions of the front nine.
Golf day with my sons
Very friendly staff. Nice range. Great layout. Fairways are still in winter grass but cut perfectly. Greens in nice shape. Some show they have been aerated lately but still in Very good shape. The views were awsome.
Will definitely drive from Charlotte to play again.
Etowah Valley in the Rain
First time playing course. Played North/South. North course has more elevation change, South course a bit flat. Overall course is a bit tired. Greens on north OK better on South. Fairways were ok on south, needed help on North. Bunkers were overgrown and in bad shape on north and not much better on south. Lots of ground under repair areas in front of greens on south.
We did get rain during front 9 but played thru. By time we got to back nine rain stopped but the course was completely wet. We slogged thru it. For the fee, should have realized course was going to be questionable. But we had a good time, the staff was friendly and helpful. Would not play again as there are better courses out there in the area.
We were scheduled to play North and & West courses. On arrival we were told the greens on the West course had been punched and it was cart path only due to recent rains, but were given a discounted rate so we were ok with that. We went to the range and were sent out early by the starter…directly behind the men’s league, who said “they won’t hold you up”, when in fact they did. Pace of play was slow we waited on every tee box/fairway, and the state of the North course is abysmal to say the least. Every bunker is GRU, with little to no sand and weeds up to your hips. We finished the North course and went home. 0/10 would not recommend.
Monday Morning at Etowah
Three of us traveled from Simpsonville SC about 1:30 minute ride. The weather was perfect. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Etowah has 3 none hole courses ( West, South and North) We played the West course first, it was in good condition. The greens were in very good shape and the course layout was good. We stopped at the turn and got some quick serve sandwiches. The cheeseburger was great and the price was fair. The second 9 was on the North course. It looks as if they have stopped maintaining this 9. Traps were played as ground under repair. Fairways were mowed, but not in good shape and greens looked like they needed water. The layout of the North course was excellent. I believe they South Course greens were being punched. Not sure why the Pro Shop did not alert us to course conditions of the North Course prior to playing. None the less we had fun.
Really nice course
Enjoyed playing here again. Nice course in good shape and a great staff.
Great time
The course is very nice and the staff is excellent. A course ranger checked with us twice to make sure we were happy with the pace of play, which we were. We went into Zeke’s restaurant and bar after and had a great meal. Very good experience!
Fun round, good value & pace for a weekend
First time playing here. Looking for local course with improved conditions vs. others in the area and was not disappointed. Friendly, helpful staff. Matched up with enjoyable playing partners, the course was generally better than most, e.g. fairways nice, greens nice, tees a little hard but nice. A few bunkers in rough or unplayable state would be the only shortcoming. Pace of play was fine even on a weekend. I'll certainly return.
Etowah Golf Club is a lovely mountain course
We really enjoyed our visit to Etowah Golf Club this week. It was a first time for us and we will likely play it again while we are in town. The fairways and greens were in good shape and there were some challenging holes on the course. Would recommend it for an older mountain course.
Rowan golf
The bunkers were all grown up on the north course. Fairways and greens were okay. Not sure why they started me on this course first. Should have played the south first. Rained out after 3 on south. I will go back.
Nice coirse
Course was in great shape. Guess all the rain lately help it out. It was soggy in places and it was cart path only. Played with a great bunch of guys. Pace of play was pretty good for the most part. Slowed down on the back 9. All in all I would recommend this course. Played with Tim a local, Dave and Josh from out of town. Felt like I held them up as they were all pretty great golfers.
Great Greens, ok fairways, bad tees and bunkers
We played all 3 9’s on different days. The greens were very good and rolled nicely on all courses. The fairways were ok, probably needed some rain. The bunkers were very hard so be prepared. Had trouble getting our tees in the tee box and some very bad (8 on the south for sure).
West and South were fairly easy as far as elevation goes, North was mountain golf and the bunkers were GUR, all 18, wouldn’t play this one again.
Skip the North 9
We were scheduled to play the South and West nines. The south nine was great, in good shape and very playable.
When we made the turn the twosome we were with asked the starter if we could play the north nine since they had already played the west nine the day before. Since it was our first time on the course we went along, not knowing any better. Big mistake. The west course was a bit of a disaster. Every bunker had no sand with weeds growing. The fairways were dry - seeing not watered.
The staff were very friendly and nice bar. Would play again but not the north nine.
