Major Dissapointment
I really hate to write this review because this used to be an awesome course. I have no idea what happened, but something did, and it is not positive. I've played this course multiple times and it has always been in great shape. Not today, they are on the verge of losing the entire course. You could almost say that they have. Not one good tee box, not one good fairway and all the greens are just bad. Multiple fairways with sod just thrown on top of more sod, greens the worst I have ever seen here, and the maintenance looks like it is nonexistent. Did someone quit or get fired? A new ownership group? How can such a nice course be lost so quickly? Someone needs to be fired immediately because this place has turned into a cow pasture. The management and the maintenance and grounds crew should be embarrassed. Witnessing the downfall of a course that used to be really, really good is tragic. What a waste of time and money today. The course needs to be shut down and have everything thrown at it to get back to being respectable. As it is now it is an embarrassment considering how was it was just a few short months ago.
Very good course
Travel an hour to play this course once a week. Course conditions are very good the staff are friendly. The only drawback is the amount of fivesomes or more that play on weekends but for most part they let faster players through
Excellent Course
Course was in excellent condition especially considering the recent heatwave and lack of rain.. Fairways were plush and the greens were good and putted well.
barnwell
Great course for overall value. very well maintained, greens always kept nice. fairways are mostly pristine other than bare hills and drain spots.
Very nice course for the money
My friend recently moved out to South Carolina and I came to visit him from North Georgia over the weekend. We decided to try out this course. Staff was extremely friendly and they encourage people to bring a cooler. Pace of play was perfect as it wasn't super busy for a Saturday. Beers and snacks in the shop are way more affordable than where im from and i was happy that a sandwich and coors light was only 7 dollars. We played 18 and had a great time. Ill definitely be back soon!
Not a bad course at all
I've played this course a couple of times in the past. It's an old-style course that winds through the pine trees of southern South Carolina. The condition is average to good, so it's not great but it's acceptable. The greens rolled true but were of medium, speed, neither fast nor slow. And I'm not sure what the other review is talking about, a fee of $46. You can walk the course during the week for $14. Overall, if you're close to Barnwell, you won't be disappointed.
nice course price to high
First time player there .course was well maintained greens and fairways nice. Staff very friendly. Carts in good condition.
now the bad news
$46 green fee! Not worth the price, there are other clubs that charge this eg. The river, cedar creek, aiken golf club, these courses are worth that much.this is not, although its is nice its not worth this amount.
$35-36 would be a fair price.
I will return but not for this amount.
Short but Tough
Don't let the length fool you as a lot of the distance is due to short par 3s and being a par 71 instead of 72. Fairways are pretty slender and there are plenty of hazards and doglegs to work around. Best course within 40 miles of Barnwell.
Lot of bang for the buck
Had a great day...only lost a few balls....breezed through with little wait....Would go again if ever in the area
Nice Course fun holes
Course is not to hard but has some really fun holes.
Great course
Great course, nice and quiet. Lovely views. Some tricky hole. A couple of forced water carries.
Beautiful course, challenging greens
Club house manager was very accommodating and super friendly. We had a frost delay and he had a cup of coffee with us in the club house. I brought my wife and 7 year old son for the first time and they had a blast. I would love to see the course during the regular golf season. I would recommend this course for sure.
Course conditions
I liked the layout of the course, but it was really wet.
The course makes you think and also makes you put the ball in correct place to have acces to the pins
This course for the amount of rain in the area over the last several weeks was in awsome shape. The greens were receptive to shots and were putting at a good speed. Everything about Sweeteater was good and a great value. Can't wait to go back and play again.
Excellent fairways and greens. Really fun to play.
The greens and fairways are in great shape. A real fair but challenging course. I'll be back.
Great condition even after a heavy rain.
My son and I played this course for the first time after 3 days of rain in the area. The course may have had 2 or 3 very small muddy areas in the fairways, but overall was in great condition. It is also very scenic. Great course and well worth the money!
This course has very good elevation on back nine.
Enjoyed playing this course. The back nine is more difficult than the front nine. Greens were a little slow.
