Timberlake Country Club

About
Timberlake Country Club in Chapin sits on the shores of Lake Murray, just outside of Columbia in the Midlands of South Carolina. The classic design is reminiscent of traditional Scottish links courses, featuring a combination of water and pot bunkers as well as large grassy swales. The golf course sprawls across rolling hills, which provide plenty of contours and elevation changes. From the elevated tees, golfers will have a dramatic view of the rugged landscape. The golf course is mostly open though there are a few stands of mature trees that can be troublesome if you're not careful. The cavernous bunkers and carefully molded mounding present formidable challenges that will test even the best golfers. In addition to the golf course, Timberlake also offers a full driving range and practice green as well as tennis courts and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

4th hole par three. Pond in front and lake to right and back Photo submitted by u631580812 on 07/01/2019
The course is in great shape now, I played here 10 years ago, they put a lot of work into improving the golf course and I see big and new improvements on a fairways and greens
Great course
This course has come a long way in the past few years. Staff was A-1 and thinking about becoming a member. Will play here again. El Sid
Stunning layout and views
The course was great, the layout was excellent and some of the approaches to greens were fantastic I left my range finder on a cart and went the next day to see if it had been handed in and it had. Great staff.
Winter golf
Impressive conditions considering we had snow earlier this week. Some great views, fun and challenging holes. Would love to play it again once it warms up
Good play on the lake
Timberlake has been steadily improving over the years and now is an excellent play at the only course in Lake Murray. We've been members in the past and are happy to come back and experience all of the improvements to the course and the amenities. Will be back!
Great Course!
The crew did a great job of after storm clean up! Finished in under 4 hours and had a great day. Plenty of water views and hole #12 was a fun challenge.
Will definitely be back.
Nice golf Course by the Lake
We played this Course in out way back from Myrtle Beach to Atlanta
Some wonderful views to the Lake in some holes
Staff are terrible
Went into the pro shop to check and was ignored while the man behind the counter played on his phone for about 5 minutes When I finally spoke up he just pretty much handed me a cart key without saying anything. Get on the course and the cart keeps shutting off saying cart path only this hole even though the course was dry and nothing was posted at clubhouse about cart path only. The cart even shut down on the cart paths. I will not waste my money to play here again.
Beautiful course
Course is great, looks like it’s having some drainage issues on holes and driving range. And bunkers are all under repair.
Very great course/club
Course is in great condition, Layout is very fun and the greens are in great condition rolling decently fast! Staff is very friendly. Will be back for future rounds
What a Difference a Year Makes
Timberlake
So where to start? I called the day before find out that the best deal is to use golf pass for the hot deal the next day. So I did. Booked the Hot Deal at 11am for my son and myself
I asked if we would be able to use the driving renge, which I sort of knew the answer to because I played there last year when I was staying with my parents not too far away (about 45 min drive). Was told yes we would.
I had pretty good feelings about the course from last year, so I was looking forward to taking (adult) son to the course.
So we get there and first of all it was like a youth camp going on outside at the driving range. The guy at the shop told me I could go to the other end of the driving range and hit back towards the front. OK fine. We load up the cart & drive to the other end. We get there and there’s a pro giving several ladies a lesson. We go to the far end Away from where the lessons were going on. The pro comes over and says you can’t hit here. I say the guy in the pro shop sent me here. The guy grumbles and says follow me as he hopped into his cart and heads back down the range toward the clubhouse - my son and I look at each other and say I guess we’re supposed to follow. So we do.
We get back to the range in front of the pro shop, which is located right in front of the clubhouse. Start to get our clubs to go to that range and the guy in charge of whatever comes out, waves his arm and says, emphatically, the range is closed.
Huh?
Anyway, we are graciously allowed on the putting green where we put for 30 minutes before Someone comes over and says you can go and hit a few balls now. Which we do quickly for about 10 minutes before our tee time.
Not a great start. The course was OK in terms of condition. Bunkers really were not very good at all - generally worse than I remembered from last year.
Needless to say, I won’t be going back there again.
One of my Favorites
Absolutely LOVE this course, and want to so badly give it 5 stars across the Board....but....the sand traps are horrendous!!!Tees, greens, fairways, layout, cart paths, staff, amenities....everything at TCC is phenomenal....except the bunkers!!! I understand that after rains bunkers will be compacted & need to be raked....but, in most cases there is just no sand there to rake...its basically clay/dirt mud. When finding any of the many deep green side bunkers, it is almost impossible to get out,,,,,just not how the game was meant to be played. Other than that, this course is exceptional. Not just the normal back & forth holes, but really a lot of character to this track. I know over the last couple years they've redid greens & paths.....hopefully replenishing the bunkers is next!!! Without a doubt, one of the nicest & most demanding layouts in the area. Staff is always super friendly, and a nice bar area (for non members) to enjoy after the round. !st class facility all around!!!
Great lakeside course
The course is apparently in the best shape it has been in years. I was paired with two members and would consider this the 2nd nicest course in the greater Columbia area. I wouldn’t pay more than $70-75 to play here but I would jump at the chance for a hot deal.
It's come a long way
I last played this course 4 years ago and it was absolutely horrible. I heard they improved the course, so I thought I would go play it again. It was LEAPS and BOUNDS better, so kudos to the staff for getting it in better shape, though I think the price is still a bit steep.
Wonderful
Highly recommend playing this course. Only problem is golf now don’t have access to their timesheet so they weren’t aware of our booking . They managed to squeeze us in with a member
