Loved the new GPS carts
Played this course today and yes it was wet, but it has been raining yesterday and this morning. Had a great round. It dried up quickly. The new GPS golf carts are the best. This is one of the most fun courses in the low country. It's a must play.
Great local track
I have played SCC several times over the years. As far as I know it is a family owned and run course and is a fun challenge. The layout is kind of strange and they could use better signage. Front 9 is short especially from senior tees (recently started playing whites to make it more challenging). You have to hit less than driver from the tee on a couple of holes to stay out of the water. Back 9 is more open and longer with most of the holes pretty straight. Conditions have varied with tee boxes rock hard, greens long and slow and patchy grass but other times all in great shape. For the price (which is very reasonable) it is often my go to course for a quick round.
Oh my the course needs lots of love.
Let me start with the good. The he lady I talked to to set up the tee time was very pleasant and helpful, the course had 18 green and 18 sets of tees, the back nine was much better than the front the only reason this course got more than a 1 star. That's it for the good.
The bad can only mention a few there are many more
First we were informed that it was cart path only which was an encouragement thinking they cared about the condition of the course. When I get on the course I questioned why cart path only you could not had hurt this course more than the ground crew could of if they have one. I think it would have been wise to have a no cart path rule to save on wear and rear of the carts going over the worst cart paths I can remember. The opening nine was flat out awful. No definition fron fairway to rough, sand traps had not been racked for weeks, the greens were hard and fast just because you were putting on dead grass. The whole course is hard hat worthy very dangerous on some holes. We paid $61 for two with cart so the price was almost fair if we just wanted to ride around and not play golf.
If you are in the area play the course for the location and the back nine. For great golf look elsewhere.
Good value course
Great course for walking. Always value priced. Course in fairly good condition now, greens ok. This course is short and not difficult, and is narrow, requiring the big boomers to hit straight or be in trouble.
Love this golf course and country club!
Summerville Country Club/Miler is an awesome course! The greens are well-maintained and the course is in great shape. Easy to walk or ride with the beautiful landscape/scenery. The clubhouse is historic and relaxing with some of the best food I've had. I've played in a few tournaments here and they are really fun and challenging. Also, there is an outdoor pavilion which is a really great event venue. The staff is professional, hard-working, and friendly; I always feel like family here! I'm looking into becoming a member soon. I love this place and look forward to playing here more often!
Old and neglected.
From the outset my wife and I were made uncomfortable by the gruff greeting in the ramshackle proshop. The course has potential but neglect of almost all course features made our round memorable in the wrong way. All asphalt car paths need to be repaved; fairways and rough were cut identically and bare in many places especially along the edges; the tee boxes were uniformly a mess. Sand traps were in reasonable shape and the tiny greens were surprisingly good if one overlooked the occasional bare spot. The tall many pine trees lining the fairways were very scenic but rundown houses and cluttered backyards abutting the fairways really detract from their beauty. This course needs a makeover in the worst way.
Needs Improvment
Summerville CC/Miler golf course is a good course to bring people new to the game or a good course to let loose with the boys and enjoy a few drinks while playing. It is poorly laid out and requires a lot of attention. The staff is on the unfriendly side depending on their mood for the day. In some cases the members of the course treat you with no respect at all and become a little irate with non-members playing. Personally for the amount you pay without a hot deal it is not worth the time if you are anywhere a serious golfer regardless of your capabilities. For a last minute round or a guarantee to play by yourself, this might be a good back up course but not something to book a head of time.
Good value, nice layout
greens in very good shape, some tee boxes could use some help. Nice layout. Overall a good value. Nice course to walk.
Course was a regular no frills golf course
The staff was friendly enough. Not overly helpful. Wouldn't pay more than $25 cart included. Good starter course for beginners or hackers.
Enjoyable traditional golf course. Fast pace of play.
Friendly staff. An old style traditional course with a fast pace of play. Will play again if in the area.
