Forest at Kingwood Country Club

About
Finger Dye Spann's Forest Course, known as the most demanding track at KCC, spreads out through Lake Houston's marshy backwaters and is actually 6-8 feet below the surrounding terrain. The eeriness of being eye-level with the surrounding tree trunks makes for a unique round, especially since Finger Dye Spann used such extensive mounding to mold this water-resistant course. The track also features deep, massive bunkers, skinny fairways, and small greens. Lake Houston borders three holes, offering some respite from the below-ground sensations.
The signature of the Forest Course is the outstanding final stretch of holes that starts with the imposing 473-yard No. 15. Play it like a par 5, and consider laying up with the second shot to give yourself a reasonable chance at a short-chip up-and-down for par. Otherwise you'll be hitting a fairway wood into a green surround by water and bunkers. If you do go for it, miss it right and bail out into the bunkers.
Finger Dye Spann has spoke highly of this course, calling that it "the best course we've done in Houston." Golf Digest was impressed enough to rate it the 16th best course in the state in 1998.

Not for the faint of heart!
The Island course in Kingwood is a fantastic challenge for golfers of all ability levels. There is ample water to negotiate, as suggested by the name of the course. The views of the lakes and rivers along the course are beautiful, and wildlife abounds. Today, the leaves were changing, and I tried to take a moment on each green to look back down the fairway and enjoy the vivid colors. The greens were smooth and a bit quick today, with one pin placement that sent my 30 foot uphill putt, which was one foot short, tumbling back to my feet for another run up the hill.
Of course, I just had to sample 5 of the traps, which have great sand due to recent refilling. I play the Senior tees,, but there are still 4 par 4s that I play as a par 5.... on in there and two putt. The par 5’s are all a nice challenge, with #6 and #18 as my two favorites. So, when you get the chance, strap on your “big boy or girl britches” and enjoy a great golfing challenge on the Kingwood Island course.
Great Time
Took some employees out for a round. Had a blast! Course is in terrific shape considering the recent weather. Beverage cart came around multiple times. Pace was perfect! Overall great time!
Great course. Friendly staff
I was scheduled to play golf with my son who’s a member. He was called away so they allowed me to play alone. Nice layout. Unfortunately it was cart path only.
Great time!
Beautiful course...great pace of play. Tees, fairways and greens are in excellent condition. Greens are super fast!
Difficult, but fun
The Island Course is one of five courses at Kingwood Country Club, perhaps one of the most golf-centric private clubs in the country. It seems people either love it, or could take it, but I've always found it memorable. The par 5s are unique, especially the 18th, which requires three good shots, or two great shots, navigating not only an island green, but an island fairway as well.
