Nice traditional mountain course...fun to play
I have had a chance to play a few times with a member and in an outing. Hidden Valley has pretty good variety and offers numerous opportunities to bomb long tee shots down hill, but the old-school canted fairways can present problems. The holes are all well bunkered and the course overall is very hilly...walkable but it's strenuous. No real water hazards to contend with. Greens are in good shape, with subtle breaks that can be difficult to assess.
As a well established private club, it definitely has a traditional vibe.
Nice traditional course in the hills
I have played Hidden Valley a few times with a member and in a scramble. The early '50s era course is a very enjoyable mountain terrain course, with elevated tees, a nice routing, and well-bunkered greens. It is generally in very good shape.
One thing that's unusual but appealing is the number of the holes (such as 6 and14) that have have fairways with old-school severe side slopes, following the original terrain. Many others (1, 8, 12, 17) encourage long bomb drives downhill, but these must be judged well with the shape of the dogleg and the fairways to make sure you land in the right spot.
Most greens are pretty expansive and have some subtle breaks. Bunkers in excellent shape.
While hilly, it is walkable if you don't mind the workout.
The clubhouse is very quaint looking, with a throwback look.
