A course with a lot of potential
A fun, challenging little course with friendly staff. Plus you can't beat the price! The owner is putting a lot of work into this place and we look forward to coming back often to see the progress.
On the upswing
I've played this course two more times since my original review. The owner has done a lot to make it better, and I now recommend it. The greens SO much better, they will soon be on par with more established courses.
The course is better marked now, and at this time of year, casual water is not an issue.
I talked with the owner, and he told me he has recently found the drain lines, and can now work on getting them unplugged, which will help when the rains come back, but you should definitely try it before October.
I do wish the tee boxes were more defined/level, but I can also see that he has been addressing the most critical issues first, and doing a good job.
Fun Local course
Fun local course, new owner is very friendly and has been working hard to revamp course and keep it in good shape. Very casual, and quite flat so easy to walk, playing as a single I went around twice and played 18 holes in under 3 hrs. A lot of water hazards make for more of a challenge than you would think at first sight. Great Value!
Get what you pay for
Simply awful. After a week with almost no rain (temps even hit near 80) it was obvious that the place is so wet they couldn't mow the course. Many many areas were totally unplayable. Perfect drives landed in giant areas of standing water resulting in lost balls. The course shouldn't have even been open. They're doing themselves a disservice by letting people on the course. May check it out again in August, but I doubt it.
Better to try in summer, I think
There was no staff, no directions to the next tee, nor flags in the holes on the greens. I didn't walk the course, I waded it.
Tis is a great course for novices
This course is a work in progress. Yes, the fairways are rough, but the greens are smooth and well watered, even after our dry summer. This course is a great place for beginners to practice their skills and not be intimidated. Kudos to anyone who attempts to revitalize a golf course! If I lived nearer to the course, I would take advantage of the value it has to offer.
The Comeback
Don't be discouraged by the low ratings on this course, they are relative to the other area courses and, well, we have some of the finest in the world....... I played this course as a youngster and now returning with my young sons I am thankful my boys can learn the game without being intimidated by course or other linksters. a great place to start and the owner Paul was very accommodating. So glad to see this course is being revitalized, and we will be back! Go Play! We have very few courses as welcoming as Gateway to the novice golfer.
