About
Black Butte Ranch, a Central Oregon public resort, hosts two of Oregon's outstanding courses. The 18-hole, 7,002 yard, par-72, Big Meadow Course, designed by Robert Muir Graves, opened in 1972. Both courses are outstanding for scenery and golfing enjoyment. They are carved out of pine forest with seven snowcapped mountains towering above.
The Big Meadow Course is relatively easy to walk, although the back nine has more hills than the first. Sixteen holes reach into the forest. Only two holes have boundaries, and only two run parallel. Such features make one aware of the expansiveness of the great outdoors. One of the most memorable holes is #14, a 417-yard par-4. The tee is set 75 feet above the green and offers a magnificent view of Three Fingered Jack.

Sandy greens
We called the day before to book this course, we specifically asked about the condition of the course. We were told it was in excellent condition. When we played, we found they had sanded all the greens! When we mentioned this at the pro shop after our round, they just told us "that's the way it is, we sand them every other week." What a disappointment! Won't be playing there again. There are too many other great courses in the area to waste your time and money here!
Great Resort Course - Beautiful views and conditions
Really enjoy playing this course. Great course conditions every year! Fairways and greens seem to always be in outstanding condition. Course is fairly flat on the front nine but has some elevation changes on the back. Not an overly long course but will provide a challenge for all levels of golfers. Large, grass driving range with very good practice areas. Practice hitting directly at Black Butte Mountain. Views are outstanding. 19th Hole has outdoor sitting area and bar/restaurant. Nice Pro shop and staff is friendly. Enjoy playing this course and the newly redesigned Glaze Meadows! Resort golf does not get better than this in central Oregon!

Course in great condition and worth the drive no matter your location. Very playable, exceptional attention from staff. My favorite course in Central Oregon
Good course, but bad reservation process
I originally signed up and paid for 2 players. I then wanted to add a 3rd player. The 'system" would not allow the addition of only one player---it required me to pay for 2 if I wanted to add any. Someone lost a green fee...the course? Golfnow.com? I don't know, but it sure was an irritant to an otherwise nice day of golf!
Big Meadow is Black Butte's Better
My preference of Black Butte Ranch's two courses is the Big Meadow course over the Glaze Meadow. For me, it's about better hole layout and mountain scenery as it's presented by this course. Both courses offer challenging golf and memorable hole layouts, but I think the great outdoors are experienced better on Big Meadow.

played in a little over 3.5 hrs. Course i n very good shape. Staff courteous and helpfull.
Great springtime in mountains value.
Springtime conditions: fairways not quite ready (and dry spring has made course itself a bit less than green); greens not perfect; pretty chilly last 4 or 5 holes. But what a deal for $23 on GolfNow. And a beautiful course with views of Sisters, Thee-Fingered Jack; Washington; Jefferson. Definitely worth the drive up from the Valley.

Big Meadow Black Butte
A great course in the Northwest. Beautiful views, great layout. When playing this course you need to take the time to look around and enjoy the beauty. Fun to play for men and women of all skill levels.
Beautiful views and good golf course.
The Big Meadows gold course at Black Butte is a good challenging golf course that is fun to play. The "meadows" part is a bit misleading because a lot of the holes are in beautiful pine trees. The staff was great and the golfing experience was a real pleasure. My wife rode along with me and they did not have one of those silly rider fees that a lot of courses put on you.

Well maintained fairways and beautiful, fast, true greens. Some nice mountain views. Enough tee boxes to provide a challenge.

Courses at Black Butte Resort--2
Big Meadow course in great shape tee to green. A woodland course with generous fairways and moderate elevation changes mostly favoring the golfer off the tee. Striking views of mountain peaks in the area.
Gorgeous on-course views. A fun course.
But-- I advise you to spend your money playing the newly remodeled Glaze Meadow course if you have one day of play at the Black Butte Resort.
Great Course
This is a great course to play and definitely well worth the hot deal price. Some of the fairways and rough near the green side bunkers need some work (patches of dirt, no grass), but I would be more than happy to play there again.
The only negative thing I saw was the marshall needed to make the slow group(s) play faster or wait until the faster group(s) behind them play through.
Great course
Loved this course pretty straight forward track not to difficult but u will find plenty of sand for shots that are off target. Staff was some of the nicest I've encountered. I will play again for sure
