Inniscrone Golf Club

About
Inniscrone Golf Club in Avondale is one of the toughest public courses in the area. It is a formidable challenge to say the least, but an enjoyable one. None of the holes run parallel to each other and no two holes are alike either. The greens have quite a bit of variation from one to the next but mostly they are very large and extremely fast. Although the greens only have mild contouring, the rippling landscape still provides plenty of challenges throughout. Strategically placed bunkers perfectly complement the dramatic elevation changes, ranging from pot bunkers to vast expanses of sand. Inniscrone Golf Club's ninth hole is a memorable one since it encapsulates the course's appeal with a ridge of cross-bunkers just off the tee and even more along the left side.

Much Improves
I work a few minutes from there and pop over for a quick round in the afternoon. They’ve got brand new carts for this year. Course conditions have been getting steadily better over the past two years from my perspective. Greens are soft and a bit slow, but they are in very good shape, fairways are in great shape, tee boxes were hit or miss. Overall, I have really enjoyed my past few rounds here and can’t wait for warmer weather.
Challenging Course
I love the course layout with the variety of different holes. Definitely provides many challenges with elevation changes and forced carries.
Just this week they upgraded their fleet of golf carts with brand new ones.
Yikes
Check in staff seemed bothered when I paid for our tee time. Got to the 1st tee about 10 minutes early, no starter. Starter finally comes at our tee time and took 5-10 minutes bragging how hard the course was(it’s not) and that people should play up two tee boxes because it’s so hard(it’s not). He also wasted time trying to teach me about the course book that I told him I know how to read. I was on the green in 2, others in my party were on in 2 or 3 wasting no time, yet he came up and berated us for being slow before even finishing the first hole. There was no one behind us and the rest of the round we had to wait long times for the group ahead.
It’s in the rotation
This is a good course. It has a decent range and practice green if you want to get there early and get a litttle dialed in. There is a good mixture of easy and tough holes and there are different tees for all skill levels. There are elevation changes throughout the round and greens are not slow. I bounce around and play 5 or 6 courses regularly and then travel to play others. This one is in the regular rotation.
Very good overall
Tee boxes, fairways, design, trickiest all very good.
Condition of greens needs attention
Too many blind shots & uneven terrain
I like a challenge but the challenges never ended and got to be too much.
Good and less good
I have mixed feelings about Inniscrone. I always say after I play it that it was a lot of course for the money, and it is, but that doesn’t mean I love the layout. To say it is quirky does not do it justice. Hole numbers 4, 9, 10, and 16 are just weird. There is a lot of elevation change over 18 holes. Having said that, one man’s quirky is another man’s fun, so go and experience for yourself. Course was in good shape, everyone who works there is nice as well as competent. They have a small driving range, and a limited menu of grab and go items (think hot dogs) if you want something at the turn. The tee times are nicely spaced, and the course is not inundated with houses, so the rolling scenery is lovely.
Mostly good
Nice greens, fairways and rough.
The tee boxes are not good, can never find a flat spot and very little grass.
Great day
Layout of the course is great. From tee to green, the course was in amazing shape. I may be a little biased because I shot an 82. The 3 guys in my group didn’t have as good of a day with their scores. Had a lot of asterisks next to their score on the card.
Road work!
Couldn’t get there due to roadwork blocking the way
This course has some very challenging holes.
I had to leave after 9 holes for a medical emergency of my girlfriend. Had trouble breathing. Very tough course to play but enjoyable. I loved the layout.
A little bit of everything
I've been rushing back to Inniscrone as often as I can since I first played here on July 4th. The layout is stunning, and quite challenging.
But if you can find the center of the plateau fairways and find a way to read the greens, it's certainly possible to shoot well. Par 70, and 6,450yds from the Gold tees. 6,700 from the Black.
Unfortunately in early August they were ravaged by storms, flash flooding, wind which downed several trees around the property. I played it shortly after and looking back, I'm absolutely amazed they were even able to open and be playable. There were trees everywhere around the county.
A month after I went back (09/16) and it was back to being in beautiful shape. Can't wait til it's flawless again! It's a MUST.
