The North Nine at The House on the Rock Resort and Golf Club

About
The House on the Rock Resort & Golf Club boasts 27 holes set amidst the rolling hills of the Wisconsin River Valley. There is the original Springs Course, an 18-hole layout designed by Robert Trent Jones, and the North Nine. Despite being a nine-hole course, the North offers just as many challenges as the full-length golf course, just on a smaller scale and like the other course, there is plenty of scenery to enjoy from every hole. The terrain provides a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The greens flow across the natural contours of the land, which also helped to determine the placement of the bunkers. The philosophy of the golf course's design was that the land should give the course its character rather than the opposite.

First time played at here
Course was in great shape as greens were just sanded. This course is very challenging and I will return to play it again. I came from Iowa to visit my son who lives within 30 of the course. Look forward to playing here again.
Disappointed
Had high expectations based on other reviews and cost. Course Conditions were average (actually below many of the lower cost courses we played during two week trip). Course design requires skilled shot shaping on many holes, both due to the hole’s routing and the intrusion of trees into the playing corridors. Greens were generally in good shape. Tree pruning severely needed on course and along cart paths.
Needs More Publicity
I suppose all the new course built in the state over the last several years have taken this course out of the spotlight. But it is a very nice course at a cost far less than the newest high level and high cost courses.
Well maintained, very good greens, and friendly people. Will go again, and again, and again...
This course has always been a classic
The weather was perfect and the course equaled.
Have played this course over the last 30 years, and found it in the best shape ever.
It's a beautiful course. The holes are challenging and very well framed.
I would not miss playing this course. It is exceptional in the fall with the beautiful display of leaf color in the bluffs that surround the course. It is always a treat.
Great course for every degree of your game.
This course is beautiful and extremely well kept. Shot placement is critical in order to reach the greens in regulation. The greens are fast and tricky. Can't wait to play this course again.
Great golf course. Lots of interesting holes with different features.
Great golf course with lots of interesting features.
Hit it on the right day.
The course was not as busy due to weather and events in Madison. We played 27 holes in under 5.5 hours. The re-buy for 9 holes was only $10, there was a wedding which closed the back 9. As far as the play, the course was in great shape....soft fairways and the greens were just challenging enough to make you think you can hit the 50'er.
Beautiful Summer Day
The course has certainly matured during the 30 plus years that I have played here and I thoroughly enjoy the layout, BUT the greens are abysmally slow. I can't express how thoroughly disappointed and frustrated I was in the speed of the greens. I can't say it enough they were SLOW, SLOOW, SLOOOOOOOW!!
Scenic course, always enjoy playing the course
Course in good condition, greens were slower than past years. Good value.
beautiful senic , lots of elavationchanges
beautiful course, friendly staff greens fast and true, challenging but playable .,
Play all 27!
Great staff and a memorable experience playing one of the great courses in Wisconsin. Make the investment and purchase the yardage book it will come in handy on this layout.
The pace was fast for a Sunday, I played all 27 in roughly 5 hours. The changes in elevation on the North presented some unique club selections and forced my mental game into making decisions on nearly every shot. The tight fairways and target golf on the first 18 proved to be a worthy challenge as well. A great ending to my WI golf adventure and look forward to returning to start the next chapter.
An excellent experience
A wonderful course - beautiful scenery, well designed - generally narrow with a variety of challenges, but not punishing.
Additionally - a staff that seems genuinely happy to have you at their facility, and puts some effort into it.
Beautiful course, but too many mosquitoes
Would like to get out group of eight to stay and play golf sometime. They would be impressed. Great course and personnel. Thanks for a great two days.
Probably best experience of the summer so far!
My playing partner and myself enjoyed course so much we played it twice this week, with a one hour travel time. The course is beautiful, challenging and fair. The staff is top notch and more than happy to point out features(playing extra 9-holes for only $10) and answer any questions you might have.
Awesome course.
This course is great. Fairways play great. The North course is challenging and very fun.
course in great shape greens are a little slow
nice views from course the course is laid out well the north 9 especially fun to play
The course is next to nature!
I enjoyed the layout of this course and it is in great shape.
Well maintained and scenic course.
We were in Spring Green to see Hamlet, at APT the night before and were wondering where to golf. I logged on to my Golf Now app, and got a very good deal on the course at The House on the Rock course. The place is beautiful. Set in the dramatic Wisconsin River basin, the course meanders meaningly through it. They have 27 holes, a practice area, and your fees include range balls. We played 1-18. There is water to contend with on many holes, bunkers placed well and the fairways for the most part, were in very good condition. The greens were a interesting mix of flatness and undulation. Over all, it is my #2 place to play in the area. Thanks to "Golf Now" to make it affordable!
