Great place to play.
I have played her a few times and really like the course. Only hole that is crazy is the 90 degree right dog leg 13th. Need to hit over trees and land in the fairway. I said drives me crazy, but is fun to take on.
Course was in great shape and the greens were soft, but quick. It was cool when we played, but the greens stayed true.
Only issue was a group of 4 your kids (ages 4-7) and 2 guys (all 6 hitting balls and not very far) who would not let anyone pass them, and they actually walked in front of me on the tee box getting ready to hit. They really slowed things down, but 2 of us played 18 in good time.
Would recommend and really appreciate the staff there. Bill and his crew do a great job.
A nice course, especially for the price
Played this course from the blue tees while in town visiting in-laws. Not the longest course you will find, but accuracy is most important here - and on most holes, your misses are best if they're short of the green (short-siding yourself is just asking for bogies or worse). That being said, there are a handful of holes the wild hitters won't be penalized too badly on for wild shots.
Due to the heavy rains this spring, you can see that the greens aren't quite up to snuff yet - but overall, the course was in pretty good shape. I'd be interested to see how the course plays later on this year in July/August, once the greens are in better shape.
We played in just over 3 hours for 18 holes on a Saturday, cannot complain about that, at all. Look forward to playing this track again on my next visit to town.
local secret
I have played the River for many years and could not believe there are no reviews. This course is a green jewel especially this hot year. Played Iola yesterday and much of it was like concrete but a great course. The River will challenge you with water, trees and great greens. Stevens Point has very acceptable commendations with a great local food and bar scene including Central Waters, O'so and Point breweries, local wineries, distillers and more. We are also home to a thriving organic food community and great bakeries and bike the 22 mile Green Circle
good course
Good course just do not play first nine early mining because sun is in your eyes.
