Links at Gettysburg

About
The Links at Gettysburg sprawls across rolling hills situated near the hallowed grounds where the defining battle of the Civil War took place. The golf course wages a formidable challenge itself, featuring 35 steep rock cliffs where the stone-lined tee boxes are perched and 10 lakes and waterfalls that come into play throughout. Red rock cart paths give a contrast to the lush greens and sparkling blue waters. The dramatic elevations allow golfers to enjoy stunning views of the surrounding countryside but the scenery can be almost too distracting since the demanding layout requires all of your attention. Be prepared for a bevy of strategically placed bunkers as well as mature trees. With the challenging layout and unrivaled views, it is no surprise that the Links at Gettysburg is ranked as one of the top 10 golf courses in Pennsylvania.

Sand in Bunkers; Switched 9s
Try to play this course 2 to 3 times a year. Previously my reviews said some of the bunkers had no sand. Not anymore - beautiful bunkers. Course is in excellent shape. I'll be back again in a few weeks (1 hour drive from Leesburg). New ownership (who also owns/manages Gettysburg National) switched the 9s so the old #18 which you could view from the Grille is now #9. Bit of a bummer. Highly recommend to anyone who has not played this course!
Interesting Change...
For whatever reason, course management decided to reverse the nines. Now, #1 is behind the starter shack, the practice putting green, and the parked carts and parking lot. There is so much noise, talking, laughing, yelling, and yucking it up that it really is very distracting...and rude! In addition, we were waiting on the new #1 tee box to tee off and some guy drove past us to the tips and set up--standing on the tee box. I asked him what his tee time was and he gave a tee time that wasn't even on the Links books! He and his group were actually behind us, but he was just going to tee off if I hadn't asked him. And...the starter was sitting right there and did nothing about managing the traffic on that first tee box! He also didn't manage the noise and obnoxious guys on the practice green. Another issue: With CPO, it is going to be slow...but, a group in front of us was doing photo shoots with a video camera crew--3 of them! They stopped on several of the greens stopping play behind them. Finally, the marshal came out and talked to them, but the front nine took 3 hours. There was very little marshaling and managing the pace of the course. It didn't have to be as slow as it was! Finally, GHIN has not been updated to reflect the reversed nines, so pay attention if you are posting hole by hole. That information has been shared with the Golf Assoc of Philadelphia for correction.
Always Interesting...And Never Boring
I try to play the Links at Gettysburg a couple of times a year, but this was my first time this year (2023). I love the layout of this course--you simply won't get bored with the "same old, same old," as every hole is different, interesting, and requires some thought around where to place your ball. The first two holes are pretty short, but don't let that fool you...there's plenty to consider about shot shape, the distance in for your second shot to the green, and making sure you carry the ditches. You turn the corner to go to #3 and see a short par 3 with what looks like a "red rock" cliff behind the green. Always a stunner--even when you know what to expect--because you simply don't expect this look in PA. Same with #8--"red rock" cliffs. Just beautiful. I think the front is more visually beautiful, except for #18 with the waterfall on the cliff behind the green. The back, though, is a bit harder with so much water in play and the narrowing of the landing zones--have to think about where to place the ball and more thought to course management. #12 is another short par 3 with a beautiful bridge (and the one in many of their course photos). There are a lot of risk/reward holes, but do give consideration to course management to save you some shots. My only major concern today was pace of play...a small group in front of us that were just slow. Took 5 hours today and didn't need to. It was cart path only due to the overnight rain, but it still didn't need to take the many hours.
Never Disappoints
Used the Tee Time Pass. This course never disappoints. Always in great shape. Earlier in the year the pace of play was horrible (4:45). This time the pace of play was excellent. Coming from Leesburg, VA it's an easy drive. Try to play it 3 to 4 times a year.
Never Disappoints; Always in Great Shape
Play this course at least 3 to 4 times each year. If I lived a half hour away, I would be a member. Great mix of holes. Beautiful setting. If you have never played Gettysburg you definitely need to.
Great layout for a challenge
This course is always a place to measure your best skills. The course challenges all of your clubs, depth perception and accuracy. There is little room for error on many holes. Each hole is unique and fun and offers its own test. There are birdies out there just stay patient.
Challenging Course and LOVE IT
Staff at the course were very friendly and inviting. The course were very challenging and fun. Kind a addicting. The condition of the course were excellent throughout. Bring plenty of extra balls as course either front or back 9 has plenty of hazards. You definitely will use all the clubs in the bag to create accurate shots. Again, very fun and challenging course to be remembered.
Tough course but fun!!
Tight fairways and plenty of hazards on each every hole but it is pure FUN at best. Very challenging course for ALL player level. Placing each shot is must. You will be using ALL the clubs in your bag and will loose few balls in the hazzards. The course is tough but addictingly fun. Definitely worth revisiting.
L@G - worth the drive
L@G offers an interesting layout, frequent elevation changes, and a nice mix of holes. There are opportunities for big hitters as well as for those who prefer the precision part of the game. The greens run at an average speed and the conditions are very good. Most importantly, the staff ensure a good pace of play is maintained. I highly recommend L@G.
