Fun Round, Play WAY too slow
This was a fun course. Not particularly long, but a nice layout. The greens were fast, but true. They are difficult to read and many of the greens are large with multi levels with difficult pin placements.
The tee boxes had NO grass at all. They are going to have a lot of work to fix all of the tee boxes. The course is very wide and forgiving.
The staff was very nice and helpful. Range balls included in green fee.
Almost a 5 hour round was unnecessary with no marshal.
I will be back. We enjoyed the round and looking forward to the grass coming in. It's clear this course will be in good shape.
Strong Contender for best public course near Nashville
Played out here on New Year's day and found the course to be in good shape and very few golfers on the course which helped pace of play to be excellent. The greens were in great shape and rolled exceptionally well regardless of the time of year but particularly for December. Not as tight as it looked on Google Earth and the water hazards and bunkers are well placed to punish bad shots. Ball sits very well in the fairways and the fringe was well maintained. My only gripe would be that a number of holes seemed to be cut into the sides of the some of the undulation mounds in the greens. This was very odd as you could be above the hole and literally not have anything less than a 12 footer coming back (most notably Hole 2 which was cut right into middle of a mound) if you missed the hole. Even so, greatly enjoyed my round and will definitely be back. I found this course to be interesting and a good challenge without being gimmicky or relying solely on length to make holes challenging.
Play presidents course instead!
I 100% agree with Andy Glads previous review. It's a nice course and there is nothing wrong with it and it's in good condition, I just found it to be very Boring and kind of blah just like the boring and blah Gaylord Springs Course nearby The pace of play was also very slow which didn't help. Lunch in the clubhouse was great. I gave it 4 stars which is only because I couldn't give it 3.5. Play the President's course which is the sister course... Completely different layout and fantastic!!!
Great Layout
Played General’s Retreat as the second 18 of the day. Course is in need of some repair due to the weather conditions the area absorbed over the winter but still fantastic to play. As this was a replay we went off at 124 and still completed in less than 4hrs.
Nice place to visit if your in town.
This course was decent we expected a little better course conditions for the price but still was a good place to play. We played from all the back and it definitely had some challenging holes. Middle holes of the course were pretty cool and visually tough. Greens were average and the fairways were ok. After the round we went in and had a drink. Bar restaurant was really nice and the service waz dynamite. Good place to play once.
Good Course - Not As Nice as President's Reserve
Perfectly reasonable golf course. I just wasn't wowed. I think I was underwhelmed by the layout. The holes were just "okay." Nothing really stood out. Conditions were good, not great. Just not that memorable of a track. If given the choice, I'd play President's Reserve every time.
Solid Course
Staff very friendly, just walked on and was able to play. Course very fair, rewarded good shots, penalized not so good, the way it should be. The only suggestion I would make would be to allow single golfers to book a tee time (currently requires 2), and with Nashville having a lot of conventions, etc., this should not be a problem. Other that that, very good course at a reasonable price of it's quality. Nice pro shop workers, starters, and clubhouse staff.
Best course in the area
Wish it was a little cheaper, but definitely the best course I've found in the Nashville area. I would recommend going after 1 PM in season and 11 AM in the offseason; if you want to walk, they'll subtract the $15 cart fee and allow you to walk but only after those times. At the end of the day, $80 is a bit steep for public golf. They do have a play four rounds and get one free deal, but it's only within the calendar year, so wait until January if you're thinking of going for the first time. Course conditions wouldn't be a problem, as the course was in great shape. Greens were fair but had lots of rollout; not necessarily quick off the putter face but the ball rolls a few feet more than you think on every putt. Always a great idea to learn the greens and pick an approach club that will leave you below the hole.
Layout had a lot of different style holes and I thought the course was challenging but very fair and gettable. Not very demanding off the tee except for a few holes, and holes 13 and 14 play much longer than they look to the eye. Great course -- don't be afraid to take some chances to end up with a great score for the day!
Nice course
Traveling through Tennessee and decided to play Generals Retreat. Club house is very nice and staff friendly. Course condition was very good but it looked like they may have had a good amount of rain maybe the previous week as many of the bunkers were washed out and hard packed needing work. We had been told the greens had been aerated about 10 days ago and that they were growing the grass out, so they were running slow but puttable. Definitely want to come back to this course.
Absolutely Stunning Course Condition
Without a doubt my favorite golf course in Middle Tennessee. Every hole is beautiful and in outstanding condition. With 6 tee boxes to choose from this course offers a challenge for advanced golfers or a more enjoyable round for the beginners and average golfers. My favorite part about the Hermitage is the greens. They are in the top three of all the courses I have played in and around Nashville. It is a little pricey at $80, including taxes, for 18 holes, but that includes a cart and all the range balls you care to hit. The carts have built in GPS for distances to cover bunkers and front, middle, and back pin locations. All things considered, the price is worth the experience. Overall , The Hermitage offers one of the best golf experiences in the area, and I highly recommend this great property.
Awesome! Highly recommended!
Great condition! Well maintained! Friendly staff! Great pro shop! Couldn't have asked for more. Don't know how/why this course doesn't have more ratings. Will be back next time I am in town. Thanks!
3 stars and you had dynamite service?
