Bay Breeze Golf Course

About
As the name should imply, the Bay Breeze Golf Course is located right off of a back bay where the wind is a factor all day long.
There are water hazards that come into play on nine of the 18 holes. Bay Breeze Golf Course's signature hole is No. 10, a 180-yard, par-3, with a breathtaking view of the bay that borders the course. Since the course is on an Air Force base, the terrain is flat. There are trees spaced throughout the course. The greens are large and well bunkered.
Bay Breeze, designed by Nathan Crace, measures 6,563 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 121 and a 69.5 USGA rating. The course features two sets of tees for different skill levels.
The military course, which opened in 1962, is open to Air Force personnel and their guests.

Good course better views
First time playing at this course on an Air Force Base and yes golf is supposed to be quiet but it's more than acceptable when you've got cool military aircraft taking off literally a hundred yards from where you're playing. The course is solid with a good layout and is it the views on the front nine with the aircraft isn't good enough Lakeside holes are picturesque on the back nine great little course and friendly staff
Bay Breeze is aptly named.
Played today after passage of a cold front. Winds gusting to 30 mph. Neat layout. Front 9 winds around the flight line. Neat to see C-130's overhead while putting. Back 9 winds around the Bay with some beautiful views. #10 is especially scenic.Staff very friendly and accommodating. Nice lunch and couple of cold beers after my round. Would definitely play here again.
Unfortunate
This course has no business charging people money to play here. The greens by far were the worst I’ve seen in almost the 45 years I have been playing. I would rather have given the pro shop workers the twenty five dollar fee and chatted with them for four hours. It’s easily clear that the base commander is not a golfer. Take a trip up to Fort Devens and look at a real golf course.
Embarrassed to say I played here!
Weekly player
Play this course regularly, at least twice a week. Had a lot of rail the end of July and none since so the course could use a little.
Luke and his staff are great and will do their best to accommodate you. The ground staff have been working their butts off manicuring the course. The bunkers need work because nobody rakes them, can’t because of covid.
I’d recommend playing, just know a few of the fairways need work.
Course in excellent shape.
I have played here for 8 years & this is the best the course has ever looked/played. The only negative is the cart paths--they still need attention.
Terrible conditions!
Multiple temporary greens and the rest should have been! This the worst AFB course I have ever played!
Greens
They lost the greens again! Looks like fungus and nematodes. Probably won’t drop the money to fix the greens so they might come back in six months if you’re lucky. Sad
The greens were flawless, plush and green. A little tough getting into the place but overall good experience.
Good Value Decent Course
I only paid $20 for green fees. Course was as good as public courses where I live. Greens (all but one) were in great shape. The staff was very friendly and professional. Great locker room and driving range. Score card could use a map of the holes. Be prepared for long wait a visitor center for your guest pass to the base. Would definitely play here again.
Good Price
This course is in mediocre shape. I would not play it unless I got a hot deal of 10 or 11 dollars.
Staff is super nice and the views of the bay are nice. Fun day for the price!
Be sure and allow extra time to check in at visitors center. Security is very tight as it should be on this Air Force base.
Good Value for money
Got deal of day on golf now. Very wet. Course has trouble draining in multiple spots. Great Great views of the Back Bay. Interesting views of the air strip. Interesting layout. Confusing to find tee boxes in some places. A few arrows on cart paths could fix that. Hard to find yardage markers. Only saw 150 plate on few holes.
Pro shop help was very friendly. Getting on the base is somewhat of a hassle. I understand the need for security though.
Value is definitely there. I plan to play it some more.
Great value
Course layout challenging, very long for weekend golfer. Greatest improvement is the greens. Not super fast but well manicured. Only green on hole #11 is not acceptable. Please go back to the drawing board on that one! Overall great value for the money.
Nice Course
A nice course, but needs a little TLC. They know it and are working on it. Pay attention to the lay out, I went from 3 to 8. The back nine is much harder than the front.
To get on the base you will need a valid Drivers license car registration and proof of insurance. Be prepared.
Poor condition
Course is in pretty bad condition overall.
Layout is good but the greens condition is poorly maintained.
Good Course
Greens were ok. Fairways have quite a bit of crabgrass on them.
Nice round by the bay
We had a very enjoyable round at Bay Breeze. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The pace of play was good and we finished our round in about 3 hours 45 mins. The back 9 was scenic as we played by the bay. The greens were not in the best of shape after the cold winter but all in all, a fun afternoon and good value for the golfnow hot deal of the day.
NOTE: If you are a civilian coming on the base , make sure to go to the Visitor's Center (not the other base entrance.) Leave yourself lots of extra time- 45 minutes- to get a guest pass. Also, make sure to call the pro shop to request that your name be added to the golf guest list. Best to do this BEFORE the day you are playing. The pro shop then needs to email your name to the visitor's center. The visitor's center advised that our names were not on the list. This, coupled with a line in the visitor's center, took 45 mins.
Overcharged Hot Deal
The course was in terrible shape! Some greens had NO grass at all and others were sparse at best. The condition was one thing, but walking in off the street I would have paid less than I paid for the Hot Deal! I am a 27 Year veteran and usually Air Force base courses are in fairly decent condition. This was the worst I have played on in that 27 years!
