Great course.
Very nice greens. Stay below the hole. Par 3s should be cart path only.
Great Course, Weather and Pace
My wife and I played on January 15, 2020. It was 77 degrees and sunny. We parked and were greeted by one of the staff who loaded our clubs on the cart and gave directions to the clubhouse. The gentleman at the desk was very friendly and efficient. We went to the range and hit a few balls then went over to the starter. He was great also. We were to play as a twosome. He asked us if we minded having a single join us. We agreed and it was a good decision. The single was very nice and we enjoyed the round. We completed the 18 holes in 3 1/2 hours.
Greens faster than mosts
Played three other courses nice courses, greens medium speed ,but dolphin head greens rolll faster and smoother. Don’t know why,for Jan being from Ohio it’s was nice to play in 76 degrees.
Overly Aggressive Rangers
We started our day as a twosome and were paired with another twosome. That is fine as I never mind playing with new people. The starter stared at my son and said, “ I hope I don’t have to remind you about pace of play.” I stared back and told him this was not our first round of golf and pace of play will not be an issue. We tee off the first hole as a foursome and they send out a bunch of twosomes behind us. We kept up our pace of play and never played slow (finished the first nine right at two hours). We were approached by the ranger stating people behind us are complaining and “he can’t have this at his course.” I explained to him that the twosomes behind us will naturally play faster than a foursome and we should not be expected to keep the pace of a twosome. I also made sure he knew we finished in 2 hours which is not slow play. He kept on and on that we were playing slow and was completely rude and condescending, and couldn’t be more wrong at the same time.
At this point the round of golf is ruined for me and my son but we decided to split with the other two and finish the round as a twosome. We finished the round under 4 hours.
The course was really nice, the staff in the pro shop, bar area, and bag drop were phenomenal and hospitable. However, if you want your round ruined by overly rude and aggressive rangers, this course is where you need to play. In speaking with a few people at the course this is a regular occurrence with these rangers.
Enjoyed it, will play again
Overall enjoyed it. Greens were fast and in decent shape. Bunkers were ok, sand a little compacted. Some good open holes to let it rip. Not a super challenging course, but will definitely play again.
Dolphin Head
Great to play a Gary Player design course. Tight fairways, lots of water and fast greens. Awesome experience
Morning round
Nice course with fast greens. Lightly played, tee sheet was mostly empty before 10. Played in 3 hours.

It was a great day at Dolphin Head. Conditions were good for this time of year. We play slower and we're not rushed/pushed. Staff was friendly. We enjoyed ourselves.
Great greens
Greens were fast and true for the time of year. Fairways were good as was the course bunkering. Pace of play was excellent, perhaps due to the time of year. The only negative was the cart paths which were very bumpy.
What a great course for the money
This gem in the back of Hilton Head Plantation was previously a private members only course. About 6 or 7 years ago the membership decided to make it semi private. I have played this course the last 3 years during my visit to Hilton Head Island for Thanksgiving week and I have never been disappointed. The course is always in wonderful condition and the greens are always in great condition. It has its share of water hazards but not overly done. I would describe the course and moderately difficult from the 2 sets of back tees but fair from the white tees forward. Ernie Hanewinkel and his crew make everyone feel welcome and appreciated. This has become a must play for me every time I visit. In fact, I played it 3 times this year and enjoyed it every single time. I highly recommend you put this course on your schedule the next time you're in Hilton Head.
Dolphin Head
Had a great day at Dolphin Head. A challenging course to play and got a bargain rate with an online tee time deal. One of my Hilton Head favorites and will definitely return next time I visit.
Dolphin Head
Formerly private club now with public access. Great value fun course with good fast greens with plenty of slope. Challenging and fair. Typical Hilton Head Oaks and moss and water.
Excellent challenge for an excellent price
This is an excellent course and great value for money. The greens are accurately defined as some of the quickest on Hilton Head Island. We played in cold weather so the course was not busy and throughly enjoyed every hole. Fairways are reasonably tight but not to the extent of discouraging less experienced or capable players. Hazards are well placed and the greens are impressively quick. We did not experience the club house due to time pressures so can pass no meaningful comment of facilities. .
Great track
Well maintained with fast greens. After a night of rain the approach areas were soft and there was no run-up onto the green. We had to hit the green to get near the hole. Enjoyed the layout very much. Highly recommend
Pace of play
This was the first time playing this course while on vacation in the area. The course was in great condition and enjoyed the course layout. My group of four players finished the front nine in 2 hours which is the required pace of play of what the course requires. We were on the 11th fairway and the ranger came to us and said they had a complaint of slow play from my group. I questioned the ranger and the complaint came from a group of ladies playing as a threesomes behind us. The way I see it a threesome will always play faster then a foursome. The ranger was not very friendly when he spoke to my group. Your ranger could of handled this in a different way. We finished the round in four hours which is no way slow play. Even the cart attendant was surprised that we were told about slow play.
