River Hills Golf & Country Club

About
River Hills Golf and Country Club is in Little River, near North Myrtle Beach, a Tom Jackson product that shows heavily-wooded, rolling terrain with elevation changes as much as 40 feet. Golfers won't encounter parallel fairways, but they will encounter fairways that weave through a series of homes, along with dogwood, maple, live oak, pine and cypress tees. They will also see quite a bit of water, though most of it is lateral.

The course layout and condition were great but we waited on every shot and it took 5 hours for the round.
Bring your A game!
First time playing this course. A few thoughts: You better be accurate. There’s quite a few doglegs with little chance of cutting corners. The course requires you to hit everything from driver to irons off the tee. If you’ve not played at the beach much, the sea level elevation greatly affects your club distance, take at least 1 club more. If you’ve never played the course, have an app with hole overview and distance. The greens are grainy, really fast putting downhill, really slow putting uphill. Play more break than you think, lots more! The par 3’s are fairly easy, greens are in good shape and fairly big. Nice course, but way too methodical for my liking.
p.s. if you’ve play from the forward tees (teal and up) then the course is much easier to navigate.
A real gem
We played River Hills on our first annual week-long trip to Myrtle Beach thirty years ago and a couple of times in the immediate following years. We played there again 12/01/24. The course was in excellent condition. The course belies the fact that it wends it's way through a residential community. Each hole layout is unique, and the course is picturesque. We look forward to our next play at River Hills!
Great course
This course is difficult for a novice golfer.
Lots of carry shots.
Demands accuracy.
More interesting courses elsewhere
I guess this course would fit the "Park like" description. Not a lot of elevation changes, no marshes. Several holes have water challenges, requiring layups or skillful full on shots. There just wasn't a lot of atmosphere or excitement about it. Houses lined pretty much every hole from tee to green.
Hidden gem.
A little out of the way from Myrtle beach but worth the drive. The fairways and greens were in excellent condition. The rough is dense and unforgiving making for some challenging shots if you wander off the fairway. Sand traps were well maintained and challenging but not hard or muddy. Fun and challenging course.
Great time.
Great course. Friendly staff and Tom at the cart area was great and helpful. Definitely on my list going forward
Great round
Course in great shape. Due to recent rain, cart path only, but still played foursome in 4 hours. Luckily didn't hit into sand trap but one time, but they were all in good shape. Congrats to the Greenskeeper and maintenance team.
Tougher than expected
I am down for a weeks vacation and thought I would really score well since it was 5700 from the Orange tees, shortest course I’m playing this week. It is out there if your on your game but off just a little and you struggle. I shot about 5 shots higher than I would’ve expected but I will definitely be back and the course was beautiful.
Great Course! Great Layout
They had recently aerated the greens. But they still rolled great.
Great track
I really like the way this course sets up for me. Greens were being aerated so a little bumpy. Every hole gives a different look. One of my top favourites in the area.
Great course
I always enjoy playing river hills. One of my favourite in the area.
Love this course.
Every hole sets up a little differently. Greens were being aerated so a little bumpy but not too bad. Great value. Staff are very helpful and the pro shop is well stocked.
One of my favourites
This is a very friendly course to play, if you keep your ball out of the water. If I had to play only one course in the area it would be River Hills. Every hole is a little different and presents a different challenge. Worth the money for sure.
