Lakes Course at Genoa Lakes Golf Club

About
The Genoa Lakes Golf Club's Lakes Course brings water into Lake Tahoe-Reno golf. It's found on 14 of the 18 hole on the Lakes Course and it's not always nice tame water of staid old country clubs either. Sometimes you'll be shooting over near swamps with tall gnarly grasses poking out of them. That's the Lakes Course.
It's one of the more natural settings in an area known for its nature settings. You'll see cows along the border of the course - and birds will come flying up that you probably can't identify.
Lakes Course is a Peter Jacobsen and John Harbottle III design with rolling fairways, some tight shot openings and good views. It's 7,359 yards of golf with the Carson River and wetlands riding shotgun. It's located in Carson Valley, an often forgotten town, that's right inbetween the big gaming spots of Reno and Lake Tahoe. That makes Genoa Lakes Golf Club a pretty easy course to get to from most of the popular areas in the High Sierras.

Great way to spend a Friday afternoon...
Really liked this course. It's at the base of the Sierra's surrounding Lake Tahoe. It's amazing to play with the magestic mountains right there.
Mike was there to greet us and was there when we finished around 7pm. He was a very pleasant person. And we very much appreciated that!
The course was in very nice shape. It was early May so it wasn't quite yet all green, as some clubs in Reno are at this time of year. But it was still beautiful.
The 3rd hole is a killer. Ask about it at the club house. And listen to thier advice.
Anyway, had an amazing day golfing here.
Strongly recommend it!
course condition
Course is in pretty rough conditions esp. around the greens. Greens are slow and bumpy. Staff is great.
Disappointed
After hearing raves about this course, I was very disappointed. Greens are currently in terrible condition. Pace of play was good front 9. Back nine a single behind a foursome slowed pace of play dramatically.
Additionally was told they were no longer going to participate in the Golfnow app. Prices will double. I will not be playing this course again.
Nice Track
Genoa is a good track, not tricked up and depending on what tees you play, be careful you match your abilities with the ones you choose. Biggest complaint this round was pace of play. Group in front was screwing up everything on the back nine. Front nine not much better. Needed a Marshall out there to cattle prod the group into picking it up. Oblivious to other people and course etiquette with respect to pace of play.
Worth it!
Weather was really unpredictable. Went from sunny to cloudy to windy. Wind changes direction quite a bit, so it's a course you need to play frequently to learn and adjust.
To ALL doofus golfers who play slow, drive carts on par 3's and play as fivesomes, please, stay home and take up knitting or basket weaving. Golf should always be a 4 hour round max and it took us 3 hours to play the first 12 holes. Yikes! I called the clubhouse and the staff was great at speeding up the bozos!
Okay course
Windy and cold. Mountains are full of snow nearby.
Pitch mark and divot galore !
Terrible overall condition , tee box are Horrendous, fairways and greens still half dormant. For the premium priced tee time I would pass it up until later in the season.
Other places to play
Staff at the starter and bar/grill must have had bad days- poor attitudes, pace of play was slow, no Marshall , clubhouse closed early, no need to return
We’ll be Back!!
To be able to golf in March at such a great course….Wow!!
We’re already planning to come back
Great Day at Genoa
Great round, beautiful weather. Course was in great shape for the time of year and is only going to get better as the weather gets warmer. Staff are friendly and happy to see everyone. I look forward to playing Genoa again when I return home from vacation.
Good winter experience.
Check-in was great, golf cart was ready and free balls at the driving range. Joined another and we had our own cart. All good. The course as expected was mostly brown. Cart path only was a little obsessive because the ground was firm and dry everywhere. Course layout was good, a nice variety of holes with plenty of room off the tee and around the greens. Speed of greens was surprisingly quick given the time of year and putts ran true, though not always in the hole ;) . Pace of play was good given we were 2 and later 3 following a threesome. . All in all a good experience with pleasant company.
Genoa Lakes
Winter conditions as to be expected in early March.
Course was closed
Despite having a tee time thru GolfNow when I got there the course was closed, the place was locked up tight and there was no-one around.
No notice was posted anywhere explains why.
I can’t comment on the course.
Communication would be zero stars.
Pace of Play a Problem
A five hour round on a course might be expected on a nice summer day but during the winter on a 55 degree day with hardly anyone on the course is not.
The course was in good condition, the greens were fast and the weather was great for February.. Other than the aforementioned slow play, it was an enjoyable round
