Horrible customer service
I think public courses seem to forget they are still in the service business. I have golfed at many golf courses in Lincoln, Omaha, & in the surrounding area and this course management was incredibly horrible to work with. We made the 45 minute commute & showed up 10 minutes late ( we were greeted with a very short response and felt like a huge inconvenience to the course ) volunteered to tee off from hole 2 and did our best to work with them. We had asked if they would allow us to play hole 1 after 18 and they said no. At hole 9 they sent a group in front of us that backed us up over an hour. Asked for a refund as we were unable to play out back 9 and they were unwilling. I have never witnessed such poor management. At the end of the day everything was being blamed on the GM when in reality the desk clerk was the person hurting the courses business. If you are looking for friendly staff and a enjoyable day of golf you should not waste the gas money to come to this course.
Beautiful course
The course sits in a lake in a rock quarry. Had some great views, Plays itself around the lake wonderfully. Greens had been aerated so they discounted $10 off the round. $65 usually, $55 with our discount is definitely reasonable for this course. Besides the aerated greens, zero complaints about the course conditions. As a higher handicap, it was tough but very fair and playable. Will definitely be back, hopefully again this fall before it gets too cold.
Wow. SPECTACULAR views. There are some really challenging lay ou
I play here a few times every year. Great senior rate during the week. This course is not for the beginner.
Scenic Course, Unique Layout
I played this course while in Omaha on business was very pleased with everything about it. It was a cold day in early November, so I pretty much had the course to myself. Despite the cooler time of year, the fairways were still extremely lush, and the greens were still quick, rolling true. The topography of the course was great, including several blind shots, elevated tee boxes, etc. Overall, this course is a tremendous value, easily costing double where I'm from.
Bad experience at this course
We have enjoyed playing this course in the past. Seven women paid $455 to enjoy a round of golf. Our experience was We have enjoyed playing this course in the past. Seven women paid $455 to enjoy a round of golf. Our experience was marred by harassment from the course manager and staff. There was no one in front of us or behind us but the marshal told us to pick up the pace. The players behind us were two holes away. We never saw them in 18 holes and they never
saw us! The marshal did not pay a visit to them. Surely they were off pace! Did I mention they were males? We are not slow players; we play a lot of courses and have NEVER had this happen before. Wondering where customer satisfaction fits into the business model used at this course.
Unpleasant staff
Approached by Marshall on hole 14 and told we needed to "pick up the pace". Received message on GPS on cart the next hole we were "falling behind". When we finished hole 18 we back tracked and found the group behind us was just teeing off on 17 with nobody in sight behind them. Asked them if we had held them up on any hole. They said they never saw us in front of them.
In discussing this with GM we asked why we had been "pushed" when we finished the round in 4hrs 40min (course recommends 4hr 20min) and no one behind us for 2 holes. Response was that the computer showed that "if we had kept up that pace we would have had the whole course backed up". ????back up whole course in four holes, 20 minutes past course recommended time and the closest group 2 holes back??
Management was unwilling to consider that the entire situation could have been avoided if they had allowed us to play the extra 20 minutes without contact from the Marshall or club house. We would have been off the course, the group behind us would have finished their round without incident and everybody would be happy. But now they have 7 golfers telling everybody we can find what a BAD experience we had at Iron Horse and discouraging others from playing there.
So if you're considering playing this course, my recommendation is DON'T. But if you do be prepared to have your round negatively affected because the COMPUTER says ur not playing fast enough even though there's no one within two holes behind you.
Disappointed
We are members of LWMGA and look forward every year to golf at Iron Horse. Seven of us retired and positive spirited women went yesterday to enjoy a fun round of golf. Other years we were always greeted with a smile and told to enjoy our play. Yesterday if was a sadly different experience. We understand golf etiquette and there was no one behind us that we could see, but at the turn we were told to speed up our play. At hole 14, the Marshall came behind the four of us and told us we spent 40 minutes on that one hole, which was absolutely absurd. We estimated it may have been 15 minutes at the most. What was suppose to be a day of leisurely play, ended with disappointment and rudeness from the staff when we wanted to have a conversation about the situation. BTW, the golfers behind us were three holes back! It was ridiculous and there was no offer of apology or sincerity in their response to our concerns.
Pace of play
There was nobody in front of us and nobody pushing us from behind but the Ranger comes up and seriously says were falling behind the pace and this was just having a few more holes to play. We clocked out under 4 hrs. We laughed and said we are the ones who hate slow golf what a jerk
Disappointed, not the same
Course was not in the best shape and staff did not seem to care you selected their course to play and they were not very accommodating. This course was always a go-to in the Omaha-metro area and normally was in better condition, more manicured than the other course in the Ashland area (Quarry Oaks). If this is what the future holds for this course, will most likely play once a year. Disappointing!
Fantastic Course - Challenging, and great scenary
Played Iron Horse for the second time ever and will definitely be back a few more times this year!
Played Saturday afternoon (4:50pm tee time) and had the whole course to ourselves! Fairways and overall all course conditions were really good. Greens were a little more dinged up than I really would have wanted (more divots needing taken than I really expected) but overall didn't take away from my overall experience. Awesome views, and real fun elevation changes.
Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and their weekend afternoon greens fees ($45/18) was well worth the money!
Showing up late for your tee time and asking to go off on hole 2 is absolutely ridiculous. How would you feel if someone jumped in front of you after the first tee? People like you are the reason it takes 6 hours to finish a round. Get a life and please remove this review. Iron Horse is amazing and does not deserve this type of slander.
