Eagle Pointe Golf Club

About
Rick Forester built Eagle Pointe in 1999, taking advantage of the distinctive natural terrain that includes abundant elevation changes and the snaking Old River. The pine-lined fairways roll through bunkers and water hazards to reach some impressive, well-conditioned greens.
The front features the most difficult rated hole in the 438-yard No. 6, which plays 419 yards from the tips and allows you to become intimate with the Old River. You'll need a solid tee shot to get in position for a decent approach and avoid the river on the left. The longish approach goes into a green surrounded on three sides by the Old River.
The back side boasts the course's signature hole. No. 18 is a 429-yard par 4, which requires a lengthy approach into a green surrounded by water.
Getting there : 30 miles east of Houston. Take I-10 east to Exit 800, turn left, proceed 3.5 miles and turn right on Eagle Pointe Dr.

Slow Slow Slow
The golf course is good. It’s far from Houston, but worth the drive if it was managed properly. We waited a long time between shots. I finally called the pro shop to ask if they could send out a marshal. I was told they didn’t have one and that average times on weekends are 5 to 5 1/2 hrs. I can understand 4.5 hrs, but 5.5 is ridiculous. It’s not managed at all. It hard to play that slow and if they told me average times ran that long I never would have gone there.
Lost some of its luster
Played there today. Reason for zero cost was paid thru an organization instead of me paying course directly.
First sign of some issues was the putting green. Not in the best of shape. Before going on, let me say the last few times I played this course...it was immaculate. Greens were perfect, best tee boxes I had see anywhere, fairways always nice.
Ok, some of the tee boxes not in very good shape. Dirt instead of grass on portions of the tees. Greens, lots of bare spots. Most around the edges but a bunch had other places that really came into play. Some very bumpy greens. One of the sand traps had the liner sticking up with no sand at all covering it.
Let me say that many courses suffered from the freeze we had over 5 months ago. Most of those courses have taken care of their greens so that you really can't tell there was a problem months ago. Not sure if this is what EP attributes their problems to but they need to fix it.
Yes, I would recommend this course...just not right now. I am hoping it comes back. I did hear some members there complaining also.
Awesome
Everything about this course is good. Challenging, greens great long and short. Obstacles everything
The only negative. Bring ur. Own beer and drink. NO LIQUOR LICENSE
Not bad
Course was soft from rain but the greens were good.
New Chapter
After many years of management by the same company, the city took over the first of June. Along with other members, we are anxious to see what the future holds. There will no doubt be a few changes and a transition period. Time will tell. As for current course conditions, it's in good shape. Greens are coming around nice and rolling well. Let's hope the city of Mont Belvieu has a good plan.
One of the top public courses in Greater Houston
I had heard that Eagle Pointe was good, but I had heard that about other courses in the Houston area and was usually let down. Flat and wet land doesn't lend itself to great golf courses, and Houston has more than its share of wet, flat land. Eagle Point is an outlier, and sits very comfortably on rolling, mostly secluded, land. You know you're in for something different on the first tee where you start with a downhill tee shot to a side-hill landing area where the lay of the land will steer your ball toward a natural stream that zig-zags all along the left side of the hole. That same stream then veers right and crosses the fairway, challenging you to carry it - or layup - on your uphill second shot into the Par 5 first.
The greens are varied and in great shape, as were tees, greens, bunkers and roughs. I would really have to stretch to find something critical to say, with the low hanging fruit being the comparatively weak and uninspired 17th and 18th holes. Both holes sit on the flattest part of the property and are out of the step with the rest of the course in both look and shot values.
Hidden Gen in Southeast Texas
Just northeast of Houston this course is a pleasure to play and unusual for the area because of elevation changes. Always great conditions and rarely is it crowded.
Heavily wooded but expansive fairway make this course a fair test of golf. Keep an eye out for Bald Eagles as they are known to nest in the area. A back to nature experience!
A gem, as always!
I live about 45 min away so I play here 4-5 times a year. Course is in great shape, as usual. My first time to play after turning 55 so moved up to the green tees. Since I'm not a bomber, moving up makes the course lot more manageable. Watch the hidden creek on 16, from the tee not visible. And the water on the left at 18 is closer than you think! Again, a favorite of mine, top notch course.
Great Course
The course is well-maintained, in excellent condition with enough variation in hole design to keep play interesting. The slope rating from the blue tees tells the story of its difficulty. Unless your really accurate off the tee or a long hitter, save yourself some difficulty by playing the green tees which are almost 6000 yards. I wish I lived closer to it so I could play it more often. The mosquitoes were not an issue this time. They were a menace the last time I played here. If it hadn't been for the twosome in front of us who took 25 minutes to play the first hole and then an average of 15 minutes per hole after that, it would have been much more enjoyable. While I know 15 minutes per hole is average for a foursome, a twosome should be able to play much faster. After skipping over them at 6, the pace of play was much more enjoyable.

Thanks for leaving us a review. It's great to hear you enjoyed your visit to our course despite the players in front of you. Hopefully you will be in front of a quicker group the next time you play. Thanks again and we hope to see you soon.
Great course
Have played here 3 times now. The course is an excellent layout. Staff is very friendly. Only problem was the grill had hot dogs and turkey or ham sandwiches because the grill was closing early. Was looking forward to a chicken club at the turn. Being it was only 1:00 very disappointing. The girl behind the counter was extremely nice and accommodated us as much as possible. It was extremely windy but still shot a decent score. Most greens rolled fast and true except 2. Maintenance crew would not get out of the way or would drive in front of us when we were hitting our shots. Great day though.

Hi

We understand you wanted to get a sandwich and we apologize for inconvenience when we closed the grill a bit early. We are happy you still managed to enjoy your time at the course. Thanks again for your feedback and we hope to see you soon.
Nice way to spend a Sunday.
Teed off at 11:30 and were off the course in3.5 hours as a 3 some. Some interesting holes but if you have never played it get the yardage book or as the pro. Club selection on tee box is key for some of the shorter par 4. Greens had recently been dressed but were receptive and fast rolling well. Worth the extra drive if you can get a discounted rate but even at online rate of 50 not a bad price for good course in good shape.

Thank you for nice comments. It's great to hear you enjoyed your visit to Eagle Pointe and we hope to see you in the future.
My new #1
This course is my new favorite in the Houston area. Played just two days after a some bad weather and the course was in great shape. Greens are very true and fast and the tree lined fairways make hitting the fairways a must . This course is a bit off a drive for me but it is definitely worth the trip.

Thank you for leaving such a nice review. We work hard to make sure every golfer leaves happy and it's great to see you enjoyed your time at our course. Thanks again and we hope to see you soon.
Eagle Pointe Playability
We arrived at the golf course 45 minutes before tee time and were greeted by the staff. They were very helpful and friendly. The golf course was a little damp due to some recent rains and heavy humidity. The golf course is a must play if you are in the Houston area. This course is very challenging from the back tees. I highly recommend anyone of all levels to play this course.

Thanks for leaving us a review. It is great to hear you enjoyed our staff during your recent visit to Eagle Pointe. We work hard to make sure everyone leaves happy and it's a honor to hear we are a must play in the Houston area. Thanks again and we hope to see you soon.
