Colonial Country Club

About
Known as one of the all-time Texas classics, Colonial Country Club opened in 1935 after Marvin Leonard hired John Bredemus to route 18 holes through the lush Trinity River bottoms and implement his newfound breed of bent-grass greens. Every honor that could be bestowed up a course has been lavished on Colonial, and the golf community has raved for over 60 years now. One of the PGA Tour’s longest running tournaments, The Colonial, has been held here since 1938, and this revered monument was the first Southern club to host a US Open (1941).
Getting there : From I-30 west, exit University and drive south. Turn right on Colonial Pkwy. and look for Country Club Circle. The course is on the right.

Great Day for Volunteers
We were treated to a great day and play a classic course that tested all of our golfing abilities. The course was in good condition, fairways soft, and rough short and dormant. Greens allowed for fair pin placements and ability to sink some putts. The tournament committee has been very gracious to set-up this course and allow us to enjoy it, long after we contributed to the success of the Dean & Deluca Colonial PGA golf tournament. Thank you very much.
Still a PGA Tour classic course
Every time I play this course, I gain a new appreciation for its nuances and history. The greens are small, the bunkers are large and you have to be able to create shots. It might be why I like good parkland golf so much, and Colonial, which sits by the Trinity River, is a fine example of that. And although the course wasn't in tip-top condition because of the unusually cold winter in the Fort Worth area, it was still better than 99 percent of the courses you'll play and surely in great shape compared to most Dallas-Fort Worth area courses. I have no doubt that it will be in good shape in another month when the Crowne Plaza Colonial Invitational comes to town.
A Texas classic
Like Bum used to say about Earl Campbell, Colonial might not be in a class by itself, but it doesn't take long to call roll. This is undoubtedly one of my favorite courses in Texas, especially after it was renovated a few years ago with new turf. Always in great shape, the host of the Crowne Plaza Invitational on the PGA Tour is classic golf with modern agronomy. There's not a boring hole on the course, the greens are near perfect and best of all, you're playing where Hogan, Nelson and many of the world's greats won trophies.
