Really Terrible this course is closing 12/31/2017
I played there the day after thanksgiving and heard it was closing so had to play one last time before it closed. But It was slower this round then that one ,and they are completely letting the course go with people driving carts when its to wet on the holes and making big muddy areas,Its really so sad an area so beautiful will be just wild growth in a year ,I feel for the people with the beautiful houses looking over the course, soon it will just be wetland and they will lose serious money in there houses worth with not much of a visual to look at.
Sorry to see it close.
Winter Golf ! Slow round ! 1 day left before 2nd closure. Marin Gem !..., sad day.
Marin County Gem !
Closing down in 5 days. Sad day for golfers. Excellent course !!!!
A Gem
So the pro shop and club house is dated, so what. Even the front nine is relatively flavorless, but the back nine is an absolute gem and tough as nails. This place is like Indian Valley nearby without the gimmicks and elevated tee boxes. From the tips at 6800 and 141 slope, it's a track to be challenged. The greens are slick and true. Plenty of water to make things interesting. I cannot believe they're trying to reclaim this place. #SaveSanGeronimo
Wow tough course for a 60+year old rookie
Great staff very helpful, course was in great shape and the pace was wonderful. No complaints for me except to say me and the guy I play with found this to be a difficult course. We both enjoyed and will return!
Great course
Very fun. Challenging. But greens need some repair. Would definitely recommend and come back.
Good day
Been awhile since I played here and the course was in very good condition and the weather was perfect. Pace of play could be better and an on-course ranger keeping people moving would be a great addition.
Good weather, nice view!
only about 40 minutes drive out of S.F.
I could enjoy very nice golf outing in a amazing
weather, beautiful scenery!
Positive Experience at San Geronimo
This course had been closed for a while, but has re-opened to the public. It is a fun/scenic layout with a mix of wide and narrow fairways. Course is in good condition, but the greens tend to be slow. There was no cart beverage service on the course (but water was available in coolers at several tee boxes). Never saw a marshal during the round, but we played at a 4.5 hour pace on a Saturday morning. The clubhouse staff and starter were friendly and appreciative of our business. If you can get a deal/discount for this course, I would highly recommend it. It has great potential, but all of the amenities (bar/restaurant) are not fully operational at this time. If you know that before you go, you can plan accordingly.
Excellant
Great day ..Friendly in the pro shop..course in good shape..Need to keep rounds played up..
Four hours.. super..
Nice course with two personalities
Very enjoyable course with the front nine open and relatively flat and the last nine up-and-down with some difficult approaches. Very nice mix. Easy front nine more difficult back nine.
closest course to Pt Reyes
I was expecting better all the way around. I paid $65 on GN...and was shocked by the attendee who told me that didn't include the cart. This is not noted on the site at all...so, felt like a rip off from the pro shop cashier...who frankly, didn't seem to be up on the program anyway. Not a good start. Then, the F&B is a refrigerated unit although it looks like a full bar is open and stocked. Just poor for the price. Have received much better for far less than half the price.
Onto the course. Greens in good condition...but everything else way to shaggy or browned out...including the tee boxes. Bunkers inconsistent...either fluffy or hard as a parking lot. Layout of the back 9 is fun. Lots of scoring opportunities. Layout of the front 9 seems like the course was designed by Ray Charles. We thought #9 was #2...because well, the tee box was right next to the #1 green....but no...after our tee shots we drive by a dirt path with "#2 this way" on it...so, pick up the drives and do it all over again. Front 9 is pretty simple and basic. two dramatically different 9's.
I would be willing to forgive all of this with an aerial map of the holes and course so you could figure out where to go and/or backtrack. They also need better yardage markers and signage in general and general course maintenance.
Its a pretty course, but, at $80 for a muni...makes it hard to justify. I've played Pasatiempo, Poppy, Calippe and a whole host of courses in great condition for that price or less and the rest of the experience that I've given a big fail here are perfect in comparison. I'll pass until they clean it up with folks who know something about running a golf course operation.
The Bar is open!
I play with a regular group of 10 or so different people. We love the beauty and challenge. The people who work here love the place and it shows. Jules always greets us with a smile and welcome to start our day! The bar has just finally opened and she makes it fun to hang out and have lunch and share a few stories and laughs before heading home for the day. Look forward to watching the business expand and keep the course going for a long time.
Not what she used to be!
A grand old course that needs some help.
Since reopening after the county purchase, some changes have been made that lower the quality of the experience. First, they have closed the bridge between 7 and 8 so you must drive all the way back around by the 5th tee box. Second, while it was closed, all the distance markers on the tee boxes were removed. Hard to figure distance. Lastly, at the present time, there is no bar or food!
Never a good sign at a course!
A nice atmosphere
Pleasant staff greet you in the pro shop. Great putting green and chipping practice area. Good layout. Amazing views, nature feel and decent course conditions getting better daily since the reopening. I’m a fan.
“Bare Bones”
San Geronimo feels like it’s on it's last legs. The course is a bit raggedy. There was no starter so golfers were just teeing off when they felt like it. The tees are hard pack and spotty so are the fairways. The greens were okay but a bit uneven. On the front nine a bridge was under repair and I had to haul my bags and hand cart over a barrier. People in golf carts had to drive back where they came from and take a detour. There is no clubhouse. The place has a vacant feeling to it. But the staff was extremely nice I don’t plan to go back.
