Avery Ranch Golf Club

About
Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.
The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.
No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.
Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Fairways dry/rough
Overall, a very fair course and set up well for amateur golfers, even high handicap golfers. The greens were very nice, and well maintained, a bit too slow (just needed a roll or haircut). The fairways were not in the best shape, with frequent dead spots, dirt no grass. The driving range is all mat play with automated ball tee up's if you like that sort of thing. No locker room to change.
You’re LUCKY if you finish in 5 hours
This is one of the slowest courses in Austin….and they just don’t care.
I’ve played here numerous times and talked to many golfers that have said they refuse to play the course due to slow play. If you play on the weekends you will surely be waiting at every hole for at least one party to tee off. Pace of play is not a concern for management and it’s a shame. It’s frustrating to play a 5 to 6 hour round of golf when you can go to Crystal Falls, ShadowGlen, Starr Ranch, or numerous other courses for a much quicker round… At a much lower price
I advise you to stay away unless you are looking to blow money for a slow day.
This course is horrible
this course has horrible staff and customer service, the workers here are beyond disgusting and disrespectful to me and my friends, cart boys that work here laughing at my kids and telling them to “go cry to mommy” absolutely disgusting this golf course treats their customers with hate and disrespect. unbelievable
Good course, some improvements needed
I haven’t played Avery in awhile and it seemed like they got new golf carts but they don’t have windshields on them. For the price of a round, you would expect the golf carts to have windshields at Nate minimum and a navigation screen with distances on it. Otherwise, the course was well kept, and then new mechanic tees on the range were great!!
Nice course in great shape
I enjoyed the tough course, especially for a late Dec round with my son who traveled in for the holidays. The weather was a decent 60+ and rather windy which made the course play slower than average pace. The course was in great shape but maybe a bit higher green fees for a twilight time. I definitely shied away from paying green fees for the peak hours, there are better courses for the price. Overall, great course and I'd return if prices were to come down a bit.
Too slow
Played here 2 days. First day took 2 hours 45 minutes to do the front 9 because of 4 bad golfers playing from the blues, losing lots of balls and taking 10 minutes on the greens to putt without sinking any. No marshalling of this course. Passed them at the 10th hole and had 5 open holes in front of them. Next day was also slow at 4.5 hours for the round which was better than day 1. Fairways are all burnt. I know it’s Austin but this is December and the course doesn’t appear to get watered. Interesting layout on the front 9. Back 9 looks like they ran out of real estate or something.
Avery review
It is easy decent track with quality greens with a friendly staff. I would play here more often but the pace of play is always slow and the golf carts suck.
Even on a misty day…
Avery Ranch played true, even on a soggy day. The holes are challenging, the cart service, marshalling, and grill amenities were flawless. On a day that others may cancel their tee time, the players seemed to stay. The best part was the pace of play. Absolutely on point! Even as a two-some stacked between four-somes, we didn’t feel much push at all. Great experience for my out of town guest that plays 130+ rounds per year across the country! Thanks for all y’all do!
Avery in the persistent drizzle
It rained lightly for the entire 4.5 hour round but we still had fun and course was in good shape. Its fairly short from the Whites only about 5700 yards so we enjoyed that aspect. Special shout out to Demon sp? The on course marshall who helped us locate a lost 6 iron and range finder. Thank you!!
First time played
Enjoyed the course. Nice central Texas course. Very good shape. Lots of deer. Challenging but scorable. Will play again - hopefully soon!
Avery Ranch- 1st time
This was my first time at Avery Ranch. I enjoyed playing and would certainly better my 84 if I played again. The layout is good with 3 or 4 odd holes. Those holes are playable with another round.
9/10
Really enjoyed Avery Ranch great layout! There was a lot of valleys and bunkers would of have been better if all of the bunkers were constant sometimes they were super hard other times super soft.
Greens were very fair and good speed.
