Golf Club At Terra Lago - South Course

About
Formerly known as Landmark Golf Club, the Golf Club at Terra Lago was the host of the PGA Tour Skins Game from 1999 to 2002. The club's impressive guest list includes Greg Norman, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods. There are two 18-hole courses available called the North and the South. At 7,044 yards, Terra Lago's South Course is just barely shorter than the 7,060-yard North Course but they are equally challenging. The South is known for having one of the club's most unique and memorable holes, the par-4 second. This narrow hole runs alongside a wide canal that makes anything hit to the right impossible to play. The unique part of the hole comes as you approach the green. To cross the creek, rather than having a traditional wood bridge, the course designer crafted a bridge from an old rail car, which explains its nickname as the "Boxcar" hole.

S-L-O-W play
Pace of play really needs to be monitored on the turn to speed groups up.
Poor communication and service
We arrived about 25 minutes before our 11:20 tee time. No one could be found for us to check in. After inquiring at the bar we were told that the person responsible had stepped away, probably to the restroom. After nearly a 15 minute wait, he finally showed up, so we now had 10 minutes to our tee time. Another person was also waiting and it turns out that we were paired with them for golf. We waited a bit on first hole and then noticed a log jam on #2 tee. We finally teed off on second hole a full half hour after our 11:20 tee time. We discovered that there was some “official” junior amateur tournament immediately ahead of us (Toyota Tour Cup). We were not informed/warned. Our round took more than 5 hours to play, and Terra Lago is not a long course. Wouldn’t do it again. Probably should have left before we teed off on 2, but a ranger said that the pace would pick up after that hole.
Lack of Cold Water
We played in plus 90 temps and only the water station at the clubhouse had water and ice. All water at the other stations were very warm. The ice cooler on the back was broken. I find it odd that they would not have working coolers considering the temps.
An absolute dump.
Awful. Areas off course look like a toxic dump. Rough is awful and the fairways are spotty at best. Greens suck. Poorly mowed with a giant ridge from bad mowing all over the greens. No. Water stations until the 12th hole. Cart girl, didn’t even stop. Absolute the worst golf experience ever. Smelled like sewer. Stay away. Not worth 1/2 the money. They should be ashamed.
Nice links course
We played the South course yesterday. We have heard that the Nirth course is prettier and has better views, but it was not available the day we chose.
This course is super challenging. Narrow fairways on many holes, lots of bunkers, and some channel water.
The biggest negative for the two of us is the bunker situation. There is very little sand in most of the bunkers, and others are just crusty hard mud and grass. Very, very tough if you are playing the ball where it lies.
Also, the sides of the fairways really don’t have rough. It is just hard pan mud with vehicle tracks in most of the areas, and some desert areas in others…which those areas are nice.
We probably will not play the South course again, but may try the.North.
Terra Lago South
South course in ok condition, some rough spots for 2/24/25. Water and Ice stations not working except at main clubhouse area. Saw the cart girl once. Staff somewhat friendly.
Good value for the money
I played the course a couple years ago and the conditions seemed a bit better today. The greens and fairways were in great condition and the staff are very nice, (which is typical of Palm Springs).
The course is good value. I haven't played the other Tera Lago North course but I hear its even better.
Great course
The layout and conditions of the course was great. Very friendly and helpful staff. I would definitely play again and highly recommend. As good as North course.
SLOW…
The slow pace of play sure gave us an opportunity to look at the course. Several of the bunkers were in sad shape. The fairways were decent but the rough was pretty bad. I understand it’s that time of year when the ruff goes dormant but it’s worse than my home course in AZ.
We saw one Marshall on hole 2 and never again. We played the front 9 in 3 hours and once we passed the group in front, we played the back nine in 1 hour 30 minutes. One would think a Marshall would have come out and checked sine there was at least two, maybe three groups that jumped the slow group.
Maybe the North course is nicer, not sure. But I have no desire to play the south course again.
Avoid the sand and fill up with plenty of water
Started at the driving range and putting green which were jammed. Apparently a South Korean golf camp is hosted here? Some phenomenal young golfers on the range though! But it was hard to find a slot to allow us to warm up.
As for the course, fairways, tee boxes and greens were in good shape but the sand traps were awful. Avoid at all costs!! Some we were not sure if they were meant to be a sand trap or is it some “desert trap” - half sand, half hard pack with some brush growing here and there?
There is drinking water and ice available where you pick up carts but there was no drinking water on the course that we found and no food/drink cart service, at least when we played. So fill up a few cups before you start! We also could not find any halfway house for any food/munchies.
