Great view! Photo submitted by DerekD760 on 10/15/2012
Interesting layout with great mountain views.
Great course layout. The course was in a good condition overall. Though the greens were not punched they were maybe rolled with a groove roller. This made for an all day guessing game as to where the ball was going to go (right, left, fast, slow).
That said, great pace of play. We finished in just under four hours. I will play this course again.
sorry to see it go
have played here a number of times over a number of years and always enjoyed the course, sorry to see it close, will miss playing there
Worth a good Hot Deal!
I decided to take my chances with Empire Lakes on a $22 Hot Deal. Worth every penny of this rate at that time. Yet, that would definitely be my maximum. Greens are still maintained, everything else has been let go. If you close your eyes, its a good track with many blind doglegs and tall mounding. Open them back up and there isn't much to look at.
Awful
The course is closing in a week and they let it go to dead everywhere. Waste of money extremely disappointed mosquitoes everywhere from all the standing water that isn't being maintained just like the rest of the course. DO NOT PLAY
Don't wait
We decided to get a round in here before they close it. I heard rumors that the course was in a state of neglect because of the closing, but that is not true. The greens were a little slow but still in good shape. Hate to see this one go!
Mothers Day for Dad
Course a little rough little dry
Get in if you still can
This course has always been close to me, it was the first course I ever played, and I shot a 106. Now I shoot in the 80s whenever I get the opportunity to get out there. It's always been a fun layout, and you have to know the course to pick your club selection. I took driver out of the bag twice, and both times were too much club. Lots of water (although drying out) to land in, but very nice greens once you get there. Friendly staff, carts in good shape, and nice practice green infront of 9 and 18. This is a great course for 30-35 bucks, but not worth the 60 dollar in person prices they try to charge. Probably one of the reasons they're going under. It will be missed.
Better Than Expected
When I found out that this course was closing I decided I had to play it before it's gone. I usually play on a tight budget and never like to pay more than $20 for a round so when I found a Friday tee time at 1:30 for just $26 so I pulled the trigger and booked it. After reading some of the reviews I was concerned that they were letting the course go in terms of conditions and all that, but that was not the case, this was the best course conditions I've ever played (I usually play Paradise Knolls, Indian Hills, El Prado and Menifee Lakes). I absolutely loved this course design and the greens were fast and pretty challenging. I now know what a Links style course looks like, the rolling hills lining many of the fairways gave it a great atmosphere. I'm sad to see this beautiful course go.
Great course, only 30 days left to play
This is a great course that is sadly about to close. Excellent Palmer design. Challenging, but fair. Important to play from the right tees for your level of play (as always). A little worn out, but still a great track.
In sockingly good shape
What a difference 2 months makes. Course is in great shape. Play it before it closes
Play it Before it's Gone
Last minute spur of the moment decision, played alone and my son hates the course.
I have never liked this course, ever since it opened, it was never in the rotation of courses. I wasn't expecting much as they are closing at the end of the month. Course is is excellent shape, and not excellent for closing, but in really good condition. Fairways are green, bunkers maintained, and the green are in great shape.
Strapped on headphones and had a great time. Play it before it closes, price is right!
A good Challenge
Fun course! Need to be precise with your drives to score well here. Playing from the blues will challenge anybody skill. The wind will sometimes pick up in the afternoon. Overall good time.
Last time
The course is set to close and be bulldozed in a month so it was nice to play it before its demise
Not as bad as reviews
I went to this course not knowing what to expect, but it was a Saturday morning and I was a single and needed to play early. What worried me was that there were no times booked early on Saturday...and the reviews on GolfNow about the bird waste,. I actually brought an old pair of golf shoes. Lo and behold, they have fenced off the water hazards...not a bit of bird waste to be seen. Greens were rolling nicely, course was in good shape. It's closing at the end of May, so play it while you can. I teed off a little after 7am and finished in 2.5 hours. Barely saw any other golfers...on a Saturday! It WAS very windy...gusts up to 30 mph so it was a challenge, but I enjoyed it. When the wind died down on the back 9 it was gorgeous weather and the course played much easier.
Great Weekend Rates
Although it has fallen off from past years, this is a fine course that will challenge the mid-level to advanced players game. Using the discount rates for the weekends make the experience a "Can't Miss" good time.
Empire lakes goin down.
I herd that this course will be closing down in May. I don't believe they are doin much to keep it up. What a dam shame. Used to be an excellent course but not so much now.
Sad Shape
First time playing here in about 3 years. It's terrible how they have let this place go down hill. Fairways are dry and choppy. Greens are in worse shape. Greens are full of cut marks and full of sand. If you find yourself in a bunker good luck!! Most are simply mud boxes.
Positives are pace of play (under 4.5 hrs) and friendly/attentive staff. Just don't expect many positives from the golf course.
Going downhill
Maybe it's a good thing they are closing this course. Any green near a body of water is covered in coot dung and the fairways are very spotty. Maintenance seems to be a thing of the past. Too bad as this used to be a fine golf course.
Double book with Tournament
The course is find.. I was double book and they put me on the back 9 right behind a tournament. Barely made 15 holes, otherwise good day.
