Hidden Hills Golf Course

About
Tucked away in the beautiful Ft. Caroline area near Jacksonville, Hidden Hills Country Club stands on a historic battleground that witnessed the fierce struggles between France and Spain and continued into golf history with searing competition during the heyday of the Greater Jacksonville Open.
The 6,892-yard private golf course, built in 1966 on an ancient sand dune, was redesigned by Arnold Palmer in 1986. Palmer's creativity helped create a championship-caliber golf course unmatched in natural beauty that makes excellent use of rare hilly terrain to create a unique Florida golf challenge. The fairways are lined with majestic pines and stately oaks, and the unpredictable greens have helped Hidden Hills gain the reputation of being one of the most challenging courses in North Florida.
Sharp doglegs, strategic placement of water hazards and putting surfaces that are mostly elevated serve up a mighty test for the low handicapper. Approaches are narrow and many of Hidden Hills Country Club's greens are well bunkered.
Hidden Hills has a rating of 74.0 from the championship tees, and the slope rating is 136.

Just Bad!
Course is in pretty bad shape. Greens and tee boxes are horrible and the fairways are just as bad. Definitely not worth what they are charging for green fees.
Interesting, unusual layout but suffering from poor conditions
As the name implies, this course is unlike most in Florida because it features hills that make it more interesting. I've played this course before but I've never seen it in such poor condition. Most tees, fairways and greens were pretty bare. There were quite a few workers present so maybe they are in the process of bringing it back. Some tees had recently been rebuilt and the bunkers were in pretty good shape. I will give it a few months and try it again to see if they are making progress.
Dead grass
While it was a nice layout and great clubhouse the entire course was dead fairways and dead unputtable greens.
Course condition
Fairways were ok, but greens were TERRIBLE. Felt like I was putting on pebbles
The practice putting green has also been closed for several weeks.
Not worth the money until conditions improve!
Great course, horrible greens, crappy tee boxes.
If you are okay with not putting half of the holes, Hidden Hills golf course would be great for you.
For over a year, the managements have been saying that they are working on getting the greens up to par. I do see some improvements but 50% of the course still consist of moon surfaced green that bounces the ball in all direction when putting.
And I usually tee-off off the tee zone because they are so beat up and ground is uneven.
Hidden Play
Unacceptable!!! Confirmed 8:50 tee time. Arrived at the course approx 1hr in advance for warmup and range. At check-in, I was paired with 3 unknown players. At 8:50 the unknown players did not show. Tee time was moved to 9:22 am and I had the opportunity to meet the twosome. At 9:20 the twosome I was assigned to was paired to another twosome. My tee time was now pushed to after 10 am with no guarantee that this time would not be pushed out to a later time slot.
Dear Lord Help us!
Since going public this course has been fairly good. Kept up well and normally plays clean for a public course. Not currently….the greens are in worse conditions than the cart path. Someone needs to give this place some love or it’s going to be a long summer for $80 a round to play this place. Please help….the tee boxes are basically bunkers and the water is still wet so not bad there.
Greens were in terrible shape
Greens were excessively bumpy. Inconsistent and patchy. It needs a lot of water and work around the greens that awards consistent good shot making. Fairways are also in need of water.
Unbelievable
It was unbelievable how bad the course looked. For $71 it should be expected to see nice greens, tee boxes and fairways. I was extremely disappointed and won’t be donating my money to a course that doesn’t put the money back into the course.
Course is in terrible shape
This is the worst I have ever seen this course and the audacity to still be charging the insane rates is mind boggling. I will not be returning to the course ever again. It was slammed busy so they are making money. The course should not be in this bad of shapes. The greens weren’t even work attempting to putt on. Had a 10:26 tee time but it was so backed up we didn’t tee off til 10:50.
Set up to be fun, but needs help
This course really could be a gem, and according to the guys we were paired up with the course used to be excellent. Challenging holes, great elevation changes, and enough water to make you order more balls on Amazon during your round. Fairways were decent, sand traps were hit or miss, but the greens were ROUGH. It didn’t look like they were recently punched, but it did look like a snowcat drove over them trying to groom a ski trail. They were unbelievably bumpy, and some greens just had huge patches of turf sitting loosely on the ground. That round was the first time I’ve considered using a wedge on the green. It honestly looked like something may have happened that ruined the greens. A storm of some sort. I say that because the practice greens were all closed due to maintenance. And finally, the first guy we met working in the pro shop couldn’t have been more unfriendly.
I think this course could be great, but it needs some time to heal.
ROUGH
This used to be a beautiful course but it has been horribly neglected. I'm giving them some credit, because they're resodding and respraying, but that credit only goes so far. Most of the greens are nothing more than dirt and seed. They have signs that the sprinklers are supposed to come on every hours but I never saw them come on, and the ground was rock hard. On top of that, instead of limiting tee times to reduce wear while the course recovers, they're overbooking tee times (I heard the guy behind the counter explaining to a customer that they overbooked their tee time). IMO this course will never recover and they're putting a band aid on top of a festering bullet wound. It's going to be at least until next spring before i play there again unless tee times drop to $20, because that's all it's worth
The course overall was not in very good shape. Several greens had little or no grass and the some of the fairways are in need of some work as well.
Thankfully the green fees are not overpriced considering the condition of the course.
the course is in very bad condition. there is some work being done , but overall greens are horrible as well as the tees, no grass. fairways are hard as concrete.
Greens are ROUGH...
The overall layout of the course is great, but the green's were in poor conditions. They were extremely rough and seemed to be neglected and more of a "Band Aid on a bullet wound" type care was used to maintain them. I was expecting better from a course with such rich history, I will definitely look elsewhere for my next golfing experience in the Jacksonville area. I do not like to give such negative reviews, but it was just too much to not say something. I can only hope that they can improve the greens and restore this beautiful course to it's former glamorous identity.
