Sand Canyon Country Club

About
The Valley is one of two 18-hole golf courses at Robinson Ranch. As the name would imply, the course is tucked into the Santa Clarita Valley next to the Los Angeles National Forest. California Sycamores, coastal live oaks, and stands of sage and chaparral blanket both golf courses. Scenic waterfalls further enhance the beautiful landscape and they also come into play throughout, most notably on the Valley's finishing hole. The Valley is the original layout at Robinson Ranch. It is not as hilly and plays more like a championship golf course than the shorter Mountain Course. Several elevated tees are incorporated into the design to take advantage of the stunning mountains views. The traditional layout combines both desert-style holes with holes that more tree lined. It offers an interesting variety of challenged including doglegs, sand traps strategically placed along the landing zones, and well protected, multi-tiered greens.

Conditions = not worth the money
As a local resident, the convenience of the location, the staff are nice, and the layout of all 3 courses are challenging. Now, the tee boxes are in bad shape. The fairways, tee boxes and even the greens have pools of water everywhere and every hole. I thought Vista was a muddy place now Sand Canyon too! You can't walk anywhere without stepping in mud or pools of water. The greens on the Mountain course are beat up and have duck crap on 75% of them. Hole 6 green is not a green but fairway grass. I'm confused as to why they charge so much? I had to not play 4 of the 9 holes due to conditions.
Great Potential, but not worth the fee
Sand Canyon is well… okay… it has great potential. There are 27 holes available on 3x 9 hole tracks. Last time I played there, they staff forgot the set up the tee boxes. The course is pretty well maintained, but could be better.
Right now, it a $50-$65 green fee but they charge anywhere from $70-$120 and it’s just not worth that. Right now, it’s greatest benefit is, it’s a fun course that will always have tee times if all other options are gone.
Great Layout; Terrible Conditioning; Way too Expensive
My wife played this golf course 20 years ago when it was operated by Troon. She raved about it. We played on Sunday. Abhorrent conditions considering the $150 green fee. Great layout. Good staff. Bizarre that cart staff won't help with bags at all. We played Soule Park in Ojai the day before for $45. WAY BETTER course conditions and value for your buck. Overall ... save your money and play somewhere else!!
Good enough, but worth the money?
Overall course conditions were alright. Fairways were mostly good, although there was a good amount of GUR around the course. Tee boxes were a little spotty. Greens were fair. Spongy and fairly bumpy most of the time. Didn’t get really true rolls. And don’t get me started on the circular “putting green.” That was actually a disgrace. Literally zero benefit in attempting to roll anything on that before the round. It’s an overall decent facility and is probably beautiful during the spring. But for a $90 weekend tee time, there are much better options out there.
Slow play
We had a tee time on a Sunday at 7:10...it took us 5 hours and 20mins to play....we were waiting almost every shot. There was no Marshall around. Would not play here again
Great Course, Facility and Staff
We've been playing Sand Canyon (and formerly Robinson Ranch) for 15 years. We play there once a month and truly enjoy the rounds played there. The greens are fantastic, fairways are good (getting better every week), rough is a test, but reasonable and the staff is awesome. Since the new ownership took over the course has been revitalized to its previous glory. They've moved up the tee boxes and made modified a few holes to improve scoring. Try it out, you'll have a great time.
Good layout. Poor conditioning
This was my first time playing since it was purchased and converted from the old Robinson Ranch course. I always loved the layout of the Valley side but the Robinson Ranch course apparently fell on hard times and it showed. I think the new owner has done some great things with the aesthetics of putting in new ponds and lakes but to me it's still a work in progress and not significantly better in condition than the old Robinson Ranch course. Fairways were patchy with brown dirt everywhere and the rough around the greens were random with high growth in some places and dirt in others. Greens were the same and slow. To be fair, this is on par with most California public courses like Los Verdes and Harding/Wilson and being from Nevada, it's probably too harsh to judge any California course on Nevada standards. But if they are to build a resort and spa to complement the course, no way they will draw business if they don't improve the conditions significantly, esp if it's so far from LA. If ownership is reading this, I would also suggest brightening up the pro shop. It always feels dark and dingy. Very uninviting similar to the Robinson Ranch days. Cart guys could also be more friendly. Asked for a wet towel for clubs and he just said they don't give any. It's no frills. If the conditions were improved, I think it would be worth the drive and dealing with traffic to come up from LA.
Awesome Greens
This course is definitely back! Conditions were great and the greens were fast, firm and true. The staff was awesome and the pace of play was excellent. Would definitely come back.
Do Not Waste Your Money on this Course!!!!!!
I was nervous about this course from the start. All the reviews stating the Mountain Course is pathetic... Even at check in there was a customer complaining about the quality of the course, the pace of play etc....... I was still optimistic.
UNFORTUNATELY my optimism was soon shattered.
The course is by no means worth the price they ask, trust me. I play routinely at PGA West in LaQuinta and this is not even close to that though the price is the same.
Take my advice, spend your $ elsewhere.
It’s not worth the price!
I see the owner in his commercials stating come try it out...well I did and he should put the millions he says he put into the place on the course itself. Oh yeah and what about a Marshall or two!!!!
Pace is Glacier at best! Greens are slower than a Vermont Maple drip and the fairways are far from plush and green.
I will give them this, the personnel are polite, they gotta be to keep some sort of repeat players.
Trust me here...... Skip this place, you can find a much better value someplace else .
Played Valley/Mountain 9s. Nice course, very challenging (141/139 slopes from white tees) with narrow fairways, blind shots, doglegs, and considerable changes in elevation. Would compare it to the front 9 of Tierra Rejada. Grass on the tee boxes and fairways was a little long, but understandable considering the hot weather we've had recently. Got a yardage book (free) in the pro shop. Would recommend to everyone playing their first time as there is no GPS. My only real complaint was the price. I think $90 is a bit high (perhaps they would throw in range balls or something). I would definitely play again.

Beautiful golf course but the pace of play is awful. Seems there is no marshal to monitor.
No diagrams
For someone playing the course for the first time it was a little confusing not having any sort of course layout of the holes. Not knowing which holes have doglegs or where certain things may be was a little discouraging. The greens where nice and soft, fairways were decent. Overall it was a 4 out of 5.
Very good golf course.
Played Valley & Desert 9s. Well manicured tee boxes and fairways. Greens in great shape but surprising slow. Challenging course - keep it in your fairway - precious few parallel fairways to accept wayward shots which most often find the junk next to "Rattle Snakes Were Seen Here" signs. Played during heatwave on July 11, 2018 but was pleasantly surprised by an overcast sky and a cool breeze. Best deal was on GolfNow. Was not able to get a drink afterward round - finished at 330, the cafe downstairs was locked and the sign on the bar upstairs said it would open at 5pm and no service was available. Asked in pro shop and dude confirmed there was nowhere to get a drink.
GREAT COURSE(s)
Played here a few times and it only gets better! There are a lot of renovations going on and I can't wait to see the finished product. Reason for the 4. GPS would help. To the playing golfers at SCCC......... PLEASE REPAIR YOUR DIVOTS ON THE GREEN!! here is a rule I play by: Repair an extra divot($) , the golf gods will grant you some one-putts. The staff is friendly and Sergio was pouring on Par. Bring some extra balls.... Or you might find some while searching for yours. Enjoy
Sand canyon
The course was pretty good but the greens were rolling really slow. Putting was made difficult and anything off the green you had to be aggressive.
