Palmer at Saddlebrook Golf & Tennis Resort

About
The Palmer Course is one of two championship courses designed by Arnold Palmer at the Saddlebrook Resort just north of Tampa. Although it is seemingly tame at 6,273 yards, it plays much tougher. The golf course features more elevation changes than the resort's other course, the Saddlebrook. The undulating, tree-lined fairways were designed to mimic a hilly New England course but the moss-covered cypresses, palm trees, and marshy swamplands are true to the Florida landscape. The layout features tight fairways framed with contoured mounding and the occasional water hazard but the most formidable challenge comes from the bunkers strategically placed along the undulating greens. The approaches to the tiered greens, which are often sloped from back to front, demand accuracy. Golfers should be prepared to use every club in their bag and employ a variety of different shots.

tough course Photo submitted by webbknight on 08/31/2015
Amazing Green and layout
The course was so pretty and well-maintained. The first 9 holes were a bit behind, but since the team in front only played the first half, I enjoyed the second 9 holes leisurely. The greens were somewhat challenging and fast enough to be difficult to lie on. The course was pretty and difficult, with many ponds. It's a course I want to go to again.
Won't be back
Very disappointed with the visit. Course was in tough shape, routines were confusing and no GPS. Required valet and inconvenient check in experience seemed meant to extract tips.
Course was in marginal condition.
Still recovering
Hurricanes have raised havoc with course. Still in recovery, multiple trees still down, traditional layout of 36 holes no longer, reconfigured 27 holes, must follow signs for rerouting of holes. Greens decent, one green had fresh sand spread with clumps on top. Rest stop on Cyprus 9 was negelected and unsanitary.
Absolute delight. Phenomenal layout. Great greens. Some tough carries on some holes. Elevated greens guarded by bunkers. Always take one more iron tha
Had a blast. Some tough carries! Learned to take one or two more irons than I thought due to elevated greens.
Greens were fabulous.
Under re-design
The course appears to be under a major redesign. The current setup is literally all over the place. Due to this, the GPS on the carts are shut off and the course is not well marked. I would not play this course in this condition for any price.
Much Improved
The course has changed from the original Palmer and Saddlebrook but has kept the challenge they offered.
Arrive early to take advantage of the included driving range before heading to the course.
Fairways and greens are in tip top shape except where they are rebuilding a new tee box
My only concern was the GPS system in the carts which was not updated to reflect the new course layout.
just hard to find
no clear sign to practice and the layout has changed

course routing was strange ---to many 115 par thress
Nice course, but very confusing layout.
I enjoyed playing the course, except for the 3 1/2 holes playing behind the slowest twosome ever. My gps took me to the driving range next to the highway instead of to the clubhouse, so I drove around the complex for about 10 minutes trying to figure out where I was supposed to go. The check-in process was kind of mixed up, too. The course layout is clearly not as originally designed and, despite some efforts at signage, it's very easy to get lost finding the way from one hole to the next. Then there's the half mile drive from the proshop to the 10th hole with no signage whatsoever. The cart guy had me enter the intersection on my gps! Anyway, I thought it was worthwhile to try once, but not sure I'll be back.
Wet
To wet to play should close it for awhile until they can figure out what they really want to do with it
